I threw a penny into my sink today.
I filled the sink with water and pretended
it was a wishing fountain so my wish 

could come [true]

maybe we like the pain.
maybe we're wired that way.
because without it, I don't know;
maybe we just wouldn't feel real. what's that saying?
 why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer?  because it feels so good when I stop.

 &+ i wonder if he sits at his computer 
and stares at his screen
at my screen name sitting there
and when I sign off
a little bit breaks off inside him, too.

 And she stares at the phone.
hoping.wishing.waiting.
for that one phone call.
he promised.
she knew 
before she hung up the phone.
right as he said, "I'll call you back in 10 minutes, I promise."
She knew when the 10 minutes passed.
She knew when the sun set and the clock ticked the hours away.
He lied.

 && i'm tired. I'm tired of accepting that life won't go the way I imagined it would.
I understand that life wouldn't be exciting if everything just happened the way we wanted it to.
I know you can't ask for everything. But I can't take another day
when I know I'm the second choice or rebound, or just another tally
on some guys list of people they [dated]. so screw this.
