Veil
by ASHLEYSREADS
As I mentally prepare for
the usually routine I go through in my head when my dad gets like
this, I’m yanked backwards. With my hair in his hand, he
drags me back into the living room screaming into my ear. The
same stuff he says to me every time.
“You’re useless! A waste of space, piece of
sh*t!”
I’m clawing at his hand and trying to follow him as fast as
he drags me to get some relief on my head. He has a pretty strong
grip.
He slams me to the ground, my head hitting the hard wood floor. I
get an instant pounding in my head. I can hear my heart beat.
Breathe, Maylie. This won’t last long. Be
strong.
I try to tell myself this every time, but the more I say it, the
less it works.
