I can’t remember
when I fell back asleep, but I did. I woke up the next
morning at seven A.M. to the sound of my dad banging on my
door telling me to get ready for school. I wasn’t aware
that I’d be going to school that day, but obviously I
was.
I rushed to the shower because I only had a half hour to get
ready. Apparently my father thought that was enough time, he
obviously never lived with a teenage girl before.
After a five-minute shower, I blew my hair dry, and
straightened it. I shuffled through my boxes for the cutest
outfit I could find. I was going to be meeting new people
today, and I didn’t want to give off a bad impression.
Eventually I found some dark denim skinny jeans. I chose a
tank top that had thick black and grey stripes and an
oversized bow at the bottom of the neckline. I wasn’t
sure if they allowed tank tops at Abraham, so I grabbed a
black knit sweater to slip overtop.
On my way out the door, I grabbed a granola bar out of the
cabinet in the kitchen. I was planning on walking to school
with Jack.
“Hey Aiden, you need a ride?” My dad asked
sounding a bit reluctant.
“No, I think Jack mentioned to me last night that
he’d walk with me. But thanks though!” I smiled
brightly, and spoke in a rush.
“Okay, well you have a good first day.” My dad
smiled a fake cheesy grin as I turned around and left through
the back door.
I spotted Jack who was, at the moment, slowly consuming a
bowl of Cheerios on his patio.
“Hey Jack! Will you walk with me?” I shouted
across the yard.
“Yeah, didn’t I say I would!” Jack asked me
in a joking teasing tone.
I giggled and then headed towards him. By the time I was
beside him, we were both staring at a bowl absent of cereal,
and full of milk.
It was an awkward few seconds, and then he stood up, clasped
his hands and announced that he would leave. I thought it was
odd that he left his bowl behind, but I ignored it. I was
ready for a new life, and a new school.
