Hey, It's V
We met in the spring of 2012
When my life was rock and roll.
I'd found myself a new family
And friends as good as gold.
We exchanged numbers, names and a hug,
He said he'd text me that night.
3 days later and not a word,
This is what I typed:
Hey, it's V.
Remember me?
We only me a couple days ago
But that's plenty of time, you know,
To make a friend.
Will you be mine?
And I hit send.
We talked every day for an hour or so
About family, the news and life.
I want to go to school, he wants to go to war
Then settle down with two kids and a wife.
6 months later he's down at Fort Lee
And I'm a star on the high school play.
I have a boyfriend now, and he's proud of me
But he wrote me one night to say
Hey there, V.
Be brave for me.
I'm leaving now for two long years,
But you be strong and dry those tears;
The time'll be up before too long.
I'll miss my sister.
You be good while I am gone.
I did my work and said my thanks
For everything you've done.
You went and joined the angels' ranks;
This war could not be won.
They say you'd want me to be strong,
To take joy in each new day.
But just for now, before moving on,
I'd like to take a moment to say:
Hey, it's V.
Don't forget me.
I'm strong down here because I know
You're looking at me here below
From your pedestal in the sky.
Can you see me?
Can you hear me?
Were you afraid to die?
