Don't Hate the
Player, Hate the Game.
chapter nine, part
one*
‘Wake up in the morning, feeling like
P.Diddy’ “Oh my gosh, what time is
it?” I ask Bridget. “Morning Scar, it’s
six-thirty.” she replies. “AM!?” I
ask her, “Why are we up so early?” “I need to
get ready for the park!” “Oh, gosh.” We get dressed. I
put my hair into a high bun and Bridget straightens her hair.
Outfits: http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=34517482 We get in my
car and I play “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane. We
drive to the park and go sit on the swings. “Text
Dave” I say to Bridget. “Kay.” she replies.
*BRIDGET’S POV* Text Message Bridget: Hey, where are you
guys? Dave: On our way, Jake takes forever in the bathroom,
ahaha.
Bridget: So, you brought Jake like we planned? Dave: Yep,
he’s nervous. Bridget: Does he know that Scar doesn’t
really want him here? Dave: Yeah, he doesn’t care. Bridget:
Okay, bye :] Dave: See you soon. :) “Hey Scar, push
me!” I said. “Okay!” she replied. She walked
over to me and started pushing me on the swing. Me and Scar act
like we are little kids all the time. I can’t wait until
Dave and Jake get here. I hope Scar’s not mad....
*SCARLETT’S POV* I get back on my swing after pushing
Bridget on hers. I close my eyes and remember how it felt to be a
little kid. When the only thing that a boy could break were
crayons. I open my eyes to tell that to Bridget but she’s
not there. She probably just went to the bathroom or something. I
close my eyes again and someone puts their hands over my eyes.
“OH MY GOD BRIDGET YOU SCARED ME!” I shouted.
“It’s not Bridget.” says a guys voice.
“...Jake?” I throw myself forward, off the
swings, and spin around to look at him. My eyes begin to tear up
and he looks pained. I begin to walk away from him. “Wait
up, Scar!” he yells. “Don’t you ever call me
Scar.” I yell. “Only my friends call me
that.” He has a hurt expression on her face.
“Come on, Scarlett, can’t you give me another
chance?” “Usually, I would, but I have had a lot of
hard times in the past which I told you about!” “I
don’t even understand why you’re mad!”
“READ MY SHIRT, JAKE. YOU BROKE MY HEART. I DON’T
THINK YOU KNEW, OR EVEN CARED, BUT YOU DID. YOU TOLD ME YOU HATED
DRINKING AND THEN TOOK A DRINK FROM BRAX. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHY YOU
WOULD TAKE ONE FROM BRAX ANYWAY. I’VE HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE IN THE
PAST AND NOT JUST WITH DARREN THAT ONE TIME. IT HAPPENED A LOT. I
HAVE TRUST ISSUES. WHY DO YOU THINK MY ONLY BEST FRIEND IS
BRIDGET? I THOUGHT YOU LIKED ME BUT YOU DIDN’T....YOU
DIDN’T!” I screamed all of this in one big breath,
only stopping when my sobs broke through. When I’m done,
it’s silent. The only sound is my ragged breaths as I
struggle to compose myself. Jake approaches me slowly.
“I’m so sorry, I should’ve known what was
wrong. I told you I hate drinking because my brother died in a
car crash by a drunk driver when I was 10. I only took the drink
because I was so nervous. I didn’t even realize it came
from Braxton. I just took it. I was nervous because I was going
to tell you that I love you. This isn’t the way I wanted to
say it but, I love you Scarlett. I love you.” He looked into my
eyes and pulled me in. He hugged me tightly and kissed my
forehead. I look up into his eyes and say “I’m so
sorry about your brother.” “It’s
okay,” he says, “I’m so sorry about what I did
to you. I promise to never hurt you again.”
