Preface
Kae's Blog:
Hey,
readers.
Yeah, it's me.
Now, before you start telling me that I shouldn't
even be here anymore,
let me tell you this:
You only know half of this tale.
Her half.
Whitney's half.
My former bestfriend's half.
So, if you still think that I caused all this,
read these next posts.
I'll tell you what really happened.
What Whitney didn't know.
I know that most of you are-or were-my friends, so please. Just
listen.
I'm not saying that I didn't make all this happen,
I know I screwed up big,
but if you would just give me the chance to explain,
I'll tell you my side of this.
My story.
(new. you likey? so bad at only having one story
up.)

Chapter 4
Casper
I threw open the
door of our house, dragging Tye in behind me.
"When did the warning alarm say they'd
be here?" I asked my sister.
"A few minutes," she replied, a quaiver in her
voice.
Tye had been absolutely petrified of the Eternals ever
since they'd killed our father.
Gunning him down after he had stayed outside too long
after an alarm was sent out.
Thinking he was a Bereft, they shot him on sight and didn't
even apologize for it.
"Kids?" called a scared voice from upstairs.
"Kids, i-is that you?"
"Yeah," I shouted back, pulling Tye towards the
stairs. "It's us, Mom."
In my hand, I tightly clutched the small
black bag.
What a great way to start a birthday.
First, it storms outside.
Second, an Eternal warning is sent out,
further reminding my mom of the fact that Dad
was dead because of them.
I pulled Tye up in my arms and carried her up the
stairs.
She trembled with terror.
At the top of the staircase, my mom was pacing back
and forth nervously.
She stopped abruptly and looked up.
Her shoulders relaxed and she reached out to take Tye from
me.
I handed her over.
My mother looked absolutely distraught.
Graying black hair wild atop her head and dark,
restless circles beneath her eyes.
She hugged Tye to her chest desperately, as if she'd
never see her again.

A Bereft
snarled at me and snapped his flat, human teeth at me.
Hissing, he leapt at me, fingers curled like claws with
long, yellowed nails.
I sneered and loaded him with lead.
Another was coming up behind me.
Instead of shooting that one, I fell forward and balanced on
the palms of my hands,
the gun still in my hand.
Kicking out, I felt-and heard-the heel of my boot
connect with the Bereft's jaw.
Flipping back to my feet, I swung the gun at the
Bereft and shot loosely at it.
It staggered forward a few steps, then collapsed in a pool of
the bait-and it's
own-blood.
(UGGGHHH! BLOOD. BLEH.

Chapter 3
Violette
And so, I
waited.
I reached into the duffel and pulled out a few of the
blood-bags.
Tearing them open and speading the stale-smelling stuff
all over.
Bagged human blood didn't taste all that great.
Didn't look too appealing either when it was
dripping from a tree.
I tossed an empty bag into the low-lying
underbrush.
With a sigh, I slumped against an
unbloodied evergreen and pulled my radio from where
it
hung on my belt.
"I've placed the bait," I said into it, holding
the button on the side. "The Berefts are soon to
come."

I
didn't need to wait all that long for the
Berefts to show.
From the holster on
my belt beside the radio, I pulled out my gun.
I snapped a magazine into it and stood slowly.
I held the gun up to my face, pressing the barrel
against the bridge of my nose and between my eyebrows.
I prayed, then.
Not for me or my safety-I could care less about that-, but
for the Berefts.
It wasn't like they wished to decay and for their
minds to go insane with hunger.
That's what I'm fighting for, I reminded
myself. That's why I want a cure.
I heard a branch snap underfoot and my hazel eyes flew
open.
They were here.
After a long, silent moment, the first Bereft came roaring
out of the underbrush.
A-used to be-man wearing a business suit splattered with
dry blood.
His jaw was off-center as if he had been hit squarely
with a sledgehammer.
His skin was pale and peeling.
A sick gurgling erupting from his throat.
You'd say he looked more like a zombie than a vampire.
Never hesitate, said the voice of my trainer-Colt.
If you hesitate, you're dead.
I knew what I had to do, even if I didn't want to do
it.
I pointed the Glock-17 right at the charging Bereft.
I pulled the trigger without a second thought.
The Bereft's head exploded.
Splattering my cheek and clothes with his blood.
I shivered with disturbance.
That was never something I could get used
to.
(oh...jeez! monster killing time!

Chapter 2
Casper
I
stepped out of the jewlery store, a small black bag in one
hand.
I started down the street, the necklace in the bag jingled as I
walked.
"Casper!" called a voice.
I stopped mid-step and looked over my shoulder.
Tye-my little sister-was running at me.
We had been out shopping for our mother's birthday and were
headed for lunch somewhere.
The little girl rammed into my with enough force to
make me stagger backwards.
"What is it, Tye? Did something happen?" I asked
quickly.
Tye hid her face.
"The warning alarm just went off in that store after
you left. The Eternals are coming!"
The Eternals.
Ageless, indestuctible beings exposed
to the Infection.
Tye had always been terrified of them.
She had a right to be.
"Okay, it's alright," I said, gathering her
in my arms. "Let's go then."

I
reached over my seat and grabbed my Glock-17 from the
backseat littered with guns.
I snatched some magazines of bullets from the box beside
them.
"Do you have
the bag?" asked Leo from the driver's seat.
I held up the red duffel full of blood-bags.
I reached down and quickly tied the long laces of my boots.
Straightening, I adjusted my worn black leather
jacket and flipped up the hood.
I looked at Leo and gave him the thumbs up.
He pulled the huge black SUV to a stop.
"Call with your radio when you've taken care of
the Berefts and secured the area," Leo said.
"And you bring some cages," I replied with a wink.
"I'm going hunting."
I kicked open the heavy door and stepped out.
Without a glance back, I started into the forests.
I heard the car pull away and speed down the road.
It wasn't unusual for the Berefts to hide in the forests,
but it was predictable.
Berefts liked dark places.
Berefts are blood-deprived Eternals gone crazy.
They turn into hideous monsters and will do anything for
blood.
And some where my friends.
I shoved the thought out of my mind and ran deep into the
forest.
The blood in the duffel bag would bring them right to
me.
(yeah!
go kill some monsters! feedback!!!??)

Chapter 1
Violette
I threw the red
ball in the air and caught it easily.
"Vi," said Leo without looking up from his computer
screen."We have a report of some Berefts
near the East border."
I sighed heavily, tossing the ball again.
"And you want me to go and take care of it, don't
you?"
"I'd like that, yes," Leo said, a smirk
in his tone.
I scowled at the back of his head and stuck out my tongue.
"I can see you doing that, you know,"
Leo remarked.
I caught the ball with one hand.
I dragged myself out of the swivel chair I
was lounged in behind Leo and kicked it aside.
It spun wildly and crashed into the far wall, tipping over
and lying abandoned.
Brushing my wavy auburn hair out of my face, I leaned over
Leo's shoulder.
"Do you know if they Shifted any humans?" I asked
him, glaring at the screen.
"Umm...none reported, no."
I sighed.
"Should I bring some blood to sedate the Berefts?" I
asked hopefully. "You know, so you can test for
a cure?"
After a long moment, Leo replied,
"Yeah."
On the inside, I cheered.
"But not all of them. Like, 2 or 3 and take your
gun."
"Don't I always?"

About 10 years ago, the infection broke out.
Not really an infection, though, more like rapid evolution.
Those Infected, like me, become sort of superhuman.
Only we're not.
We became Eternal.
We are immune to any human illnesses.
We become ageless, immortal, while those around us wither
and die.
Our senses and reflexes are much more advanced than the
average human.
We can see the smallest vein on the most insignificant leaf of
a fern, we can run for miles and miles
and never get tired, we can lift things 50x our own weight, we
can heal and regenerate much
faster than a human, as well.
And we must drink blood to survive.
(So... vampires?
yeah, i'm writing a vamp story.)

Chapter 3
Griffin
I threw open my
locker and snatched my Chem Lab book.
Shoving it into my drawstring backpack, I slammed the
locker closed with a sigh.
I started off toward Rainer's room.
I couldn't keep doing this.
Pleasing Victoria was not what I wanted to do. I wanted to
sleep.
But,-
Suddenly, I saw a red haired head bob out from a
classroom and it was too late.
I crashed into whoever it was and staggered backward.
I can't say the same for her, though.
She was sitting up and desperately trying to
gather her books.
"Sorry," I said. She looked up.
For some reason, I felt my breath catch.
She had straight long light red hair and a small face
with hazel eyes
that were surrounded by thick black lashes.
And huge black-rimmed glasses.
She quickly looked away.
"Kind of in a daze," I continued, crouching to help
her gather her things. "Are you okay?"
"Uh-yeah. Fine," she said quietly.
She looked familiar...
"Hey, aren't you Rian Kingsley?"
I could see her face was redder than her hair.
"Yeah."
I grabbed a Chemistry book that was lying open as she
stood.
I held out the book to her a little oddly.
"I-er-here." I noticed it was the same kind of
textbook as mine. "Wait, what Chem class are you
in?"
"R-Rainer," she said, tripping over the word.
"When?" I pressed.
"N-now."
I felt my green eyes widen.
"Really? I never noticed you in there
before."
I heard an alarm go off in my head.
Wrong thing to say. She didn't reply.
"So," I continued, desperate to make up for
that. "You want to walk to class
with me?"
I'm such a screw-up around pretty girls who are
quiet.

Chapter 2
Rian
'I'm
sorry, Princess,' said the prince with melancholy in his
tone. 'I killed your brother.'-
The bell rang loudly above. Signaling for me to stop writing
nerdy fantasy stories.
Darn.
I reached for my messenger's bag and shoved my
red notebook in.
I stood, slinging the bag over my shoulder and gathering my
textbooks from the desktop.
Red hair falling loosely around my face.
I pushed it back and adjusted my comically huge glasses
on the bridge of my nose.
"'bye, Mrs. Johnson,"
I said, waving to the middle-aged woman
with grayish-black hair behind her thick
mahogany desk.
She smiled with crooked teeth.
"Have a nice day, Rian."
I stepped out of the classroom.
Suddenly, I was knocked off my feet by being rammed
into and sent sprawling.
Lying on my back momentarily, then sitting up, abruptly
embarrassed.
I looked up to see Griffin Aslyn gazing down at me
apologetically.
I scrambled to grab my papers and books.
I self-consiously felt my cheeks growing hot as Griffin knelt
to help me.
"Sorry," he said quickly. "Kind of in a daze.
Are you okay?"
"Uh-yeah. Fine," I stammered.
"Hey, aren't you Rian Kingsley?"
Griffin asked me as he lifted my Chemistry book.
I could feel his green-eyed gaze on me.
My face burned.
"Yeah," I replied, standing and shoving my books
back into my bag.
Griffin held out my Chemistry book awkwardly.
"I-er-here," he said.
I took the text book and thanked him quietly.
"Wait, what Chem class are you in?" Griffin
asked suddenly.
"R-Rainer."
"When?"
"N-now."
"Really?" Griffin's eyebrows arched. "I
never noticed you in there before."
I said nothing.
"So, you want to walk to class with me?"
Again, I didn't really reply, but sort of shrugged an
answer.
Griffin took it as a yes. He turned and continued down the
hall toward Mr. Rainer's classroom.
I followed him silently.

Chapter 1
Rian
...Then,
the dark prince caught the beautiful princess' wrist
and said-
I stopped.
What would he say?
Confused, I bit my nail and pondered what an
unbelievably handsome prince would say to
a ridiculously gorgeous princess.
'I love you' was over used.
'I'm sorry'?
Nah, over used, too.
Maybe he should confess to something deep and meaningful that
affected the princess' life.
Like, 'I killed your brother.'
Yeah. Totally.

Griffin
"Hi, Griffin," said
a girl's voice.
I turned away from my car as found myself
looking down at Victoria Daughtry.
She flipped her blond locks and looked at me.
"You wanna' go to a party tonight?"
she asked me like I'd never refuse.
"Uh-Victoria," I said, rubbing the back of my head.
"I don't know. I'm tired."
Victoria stuck out her lip in a pout.
"Plleeaassee?" she begged, clasping her hands and
looking up at me with huge blue eyes.
I sighed.
"Fine."
"Yay!" Victoria exclaimed, standing on her tip-toes
and kissing my cheek.
"My place at 8!" she called to me as she
sashayed away.
I sighed again.
Jeez. I needed to sleep.
Well, that's what Chem Lab is for.
