I'm sick and tired of people
saying that Frozen
is the first Disney
movie that teaches girls
that they
don't need a man. That's complete
and utter bs. Don't
get me wrong I absolutely love Frozen
but stop
giving it
credit that it
doesn't deserve.
As a kid I
looked up to Mulan because she proved
everyone wrong.
Now that I'm older,
I still look
up to her but now I understand everything. Before she goes
off to fight in
her fathers place she literally
thinks that he
hates her and that
she has shamed
her family. She's broken.
She didn't have to
basically save her
fathers life after the
cruel things he
says to her but she does. She's
broken but still
fighting.
Then when Shang
finds out that his father has died
she goes to comfort
him. Not just because she likes him but
because she
knows how it feels to think you've let
your father
down. All her life she's been told
that she's doing
everything wrong.
That's why when they find
out she's a
girl and stop listening to her,
she is so hurt. Not
just because they disregard
her for her gender
but because she finally finds a place that
she belongs
and isn't critisied for everything.
For most of her
life she's been a social outcast and now
she finally
fits in.
So please stop
saying that Frozen is so different because
it's not.
Yes, Elsa saves Anna, not Kristoff or
Hans, and yes
they're both emotionally wounded
and fix each other.
But Mulan does virtually the same. Yes, she
has a love interest. But
she saves
him, herself
and the whole of China.
Sorry but I think
Mulan is the better role model.
