Chapter
Eight: It Must Be Fate
Fate is one of those things that just appears
out of nowhere; testing you, helping you. It’s one of those
things that can change everything in one instant. One second
you’re thinking about your crush and then as if on cue fate
takes a hold of the situation and a he comes up to you asking you
out. Or maybe…you hear he doesn’t like you. You can
try to change fate, but in some way fate wiggles its way back in
and what you thought you changed wasn’t really
changed…you just prolonged it.
Just go with the flow of things, let
what’s supposed to happen…happen. Fate will figure
things out in one way or another.

“Bentley,” Mr. Morrison said,
pointing to the back of the room, “Why don’t you go
take a seat next to Violet back there?” Bentley nodded and
strode to the back of the room and confidently slid onto the chair
next to me.
“Hey,” He greeted, a grin formed on
his lips and I felt as if I’m going to faint. I took a deep
calming breath.
“Where have you been? I’ve been
loo-“ I stopped mid-sentence because I
didn’t want to sound like I was searching for him
desperately. “I haven’t seen you since I…since
the party.”
“Oh, um, I was out of town visiting my
mom,” Bentley looked down at his hands, “She lives in
Arizona with her new husband Rick. I don’t see her
often.”
“Oh…I’m
sorry.”
He shakes his head, “No need to be,
that’s just how life is.” I mumbled in agreement while my
thoughts were somewhere else. It’s weird how the guy
I’ve basically been pining over just shows up out of the
blue. Just nonchalantly walks into the room as if nothing happened.
Well, nothing really had happened, no kiss, no declaration of love
– not that I was expecting that we had just met. But why did
I care so much that he just vanished? Bentley just seemed
so…different. Not like a player, more like the best guy
friend you can trust with everything.
“Hello, Earth to Violet,” a hand
was being waved in front of my face, “The bell just rang you
know…and everyone’s gone.” I shook my head and came face
to face with Bentley’s purple eyes. We sat there staring into
each other’s eyes; If only we could stay this way
forever.
A shadow appeared above us. “You better
get to free period kids,” Mr. Morrison said, “Ms.
Knight, why don’t you show him around?” He strode away
before I could even respond.
