It's not a new "cool" thing. people do it to deal with pain. When people hurt them they begin to hurt themselves. Sometimes it's because it gives them something else to think about, or because they aren't comfortable with their body. No one wants to self-harm. People do it because physical pain takes away the attention from emotional pain. And no, not everyone else cuts. It's not something popular if that's what you were thinking.
