The Life of a Cardinal
(Chap. 2)
I pulled up to the party at Becca Rollinger's house about an hour and a half after our game was over.  I wasn't the only one there though, in fact I came with my best friend Tyus Jones.  Tyus and I had been through thick and thin.  He was there for me when my douche bag of a father had left my mother and I back when I was in grade school.  Tyus didn't grow up with much.  His father worked at the local factory and his mother passed away a few years ago from cancer.
The party was already huge, and it technically only started like 35 minutes ago.  When Tyus and I entered we were greeted with "D*** man!  You made Flash your b**** tonight!" or "Brah, the way you played...  That was tight dawg."   I felt like the king of the world, and that nothing would bring me down.  Right away, I was swept up into a game of beer pong.  My team, of course won because I'd been the champ of the school for two years running.
Before I was about to leave, Becca came running down the stairs of her house and said to me, "Remember what I said at the game?  Meet me in your car in five minutes.  Don't be a second late."
This was my break.  The hottest girl in all of my school, wanted to have s** with me.  This had to be the best night of my life.
I showed up to my car, and there she was waiting for me.  She told me to drive to my house so we could have some "alone" time.  After the 10 minute drive to my house out in the country we went inside my room because mom had to work a late shift at Bob's, the local diner in town.
We went inside my room and stripped down.  Before we were about to get it on, I froze.   I just couldn't find the courage.  I don't know why.  Maybe it was just her sheer beauty.  I'm not sure, but something happened that night that I'll never forget.
Becca was accepting.  She actually accepted me and didn't push me away (which what I've grown accustomed to).  We just laid there, motionless in my bed.  Until she finally asked me, "Why didn't you follow through?  Why didn't you just do the deed and be done with it?"
I answered her, "I don't know Becca.  I always thought that this would be what I wanted, but when I realized how beautiful you looked with the moon glimmering off your pale skin, I just froze.  Your sheer beauty stopped me dead in my tracks."
"You know Logan, that's honestly the nicest thing I've ever been told.  I'm so used to being called worthless, and a sk*** that I was starting to believe myself."
"All I was doing was saying what my heart couldn't."
"Logan, what are you doing on Saturday night?"
       "That's tomorrow, and nothing.  Why?"
"How would you like to go see the new movie that just came out?  I heard that it's super scary!"
"Yeah, I'd love too!  I'll pick you up at 7?"
       "Okay, it's a date then."
I couldn't believe this was happening.  Why would she want to go out with me?  Of all people, why me?  Oh well...  I hope to god I don't f*** this up.
As I walked Becca to her front door, the unthinkable happened.  She leaned into me and I held her in a tight embrace as I kissed her fore-head.
I was so ready for that date tomorrow night.

The Life of a Cardinal
(chap.1)
"Starting at power forward! #44!  LOGANNNNNN ROGERSSSSSS!"   All I hear are the random screams of all the fans.  With an, "I love you!" here, and a "Will you marry me?!" there.   The only thing on my mind was the right now.  "The what are you going to do right now?  Not at the party after the game!  This is the most beautiful sport in he world, and you have the ability to still be playing.  Cherish this.  Play like this is your last game!  You have the chance to shape your future!"  Coach Scott is the main reason I stay focused.  We have a special bond.  He trusts me, and I trust him.  Now, I need to go out and impress him, and my mother.
While I was walking to the circle for the jump ball Oak Hill's star player Flash Thompson,  grabbed me by the arm and said, "Better have a big game for Daddy!  Oh... Wait, he's not here.  He left your pathetic *ss along with your wh*reof a mother."
My mother always told me I had my dad's temper.  I could feel it pumping through me right now.  It was a poison running through my veins.  I was one word away from exploding      and beating his face in right there on the spot.  I figured I'd be better off beating every time I got the ball.
We won the tip and on the first play I drove hard to the lane.  I put up a lay-up in the hoop and even better I made an "And one" play against Flash.  I sunk the free-throw and smiled at Flash.  I could tell he was already getting pis*ed.
By the end of the 1st quarter we were up 17-9.  I had 6 points and 4 rebounds.  I felt great.  I knew this could be the year we hang a banner up in the gym.
It was the 4th quarter.  3 minutes left.   We had a 5 point lead.  I was passing the ball in when I first heard her voice.  That sweet, innocent, tantalizing voice.
"Finish this game with a win tonight, and you'll score more than just baskets."
I got the ball with 4 seconds left, I got the ball at the top of the key, I made the best move I. The history of my career, and I flushed the basket as I broke the tie at the sound of the buzzer.  All I could see, was Flash's astonished face.  All I could hear was.....  Well, the whole gym erupting.  Tonight, was going to be fun.
The Life of a Cardinal
Logan Rogers had it all.  Looks, a brand new Dodge challenger, straight A's, and not to mention a full ride to play basketball at the University if North Carolina.  #44 was hanging all over the gym and his name was in every local newspaper.  You'd think he'd be happy, but Logan was missing something.  He was missing a girl he could call his own.  His dad left his mother and him for some Brazillian super-model.  The reason he had all the expensive things were because of his uncle, Tom.  Tom was his only father figure in his life.   All this changed last year, when Tom got diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.  Now it's Logan's senior year, and he has no idea of what lies ahead of him for his final year of high school.   Can he take his Cardinal team to the state championship, or will the possible loss of his uncle cause him to quit his life-long dream?
F[sh]ame and [mis]Fortune
Why did she chase fortune and fame?
all she got was misfortune and shame.
She has no one,
cold and on the run.
I see her walking down the street,
trying to keep her figure discreet.
I know it's her, broken and beat.
She's hardly able to walk on her feet.
I try to help her but she pushes me away,
she needs a place to stay.
She can't stay on the street,
where she know's she'll get beat.
All I see is her beauty,
and I give her pity.
Her face is running with tears,
I wish I could erase her fears.
She needs to be shown care,
not another beating she can bear.
She's the girl who moved in 2nd grade,
the girl whom I've loved every day.
I've finally found her again,
she won't slip from my hands.
