The
Move.
Chapter 2
The next day was Saturday, but I
woke up pretty early. I knew Charlie was a morning person, so I
called her.
‘Hello!’ she chirped
into the phone.
‘Hey, it’s me. Do you
want to come over?’ I asked.
‘Yep, I’ll be there
in 5.’ She hung up before I could say anything
else.
She lived just down the road from
me, so practically immediately she was at my door. I opened it
for her and she gave me a quick hug, let herself into the living
room, and flung herself down on the couch.
I sat down opposite her. Now
would be a good time to tell her, wouldn’t it? I decided
that I should tell her, and launched straight into the story
before I had time to doubt myself.
‘Charl… I’m
moving,’ I hesitated, and she gave me a prompting look.
‘Dad has been offered a job in the UK and…
he’s accepted it. The whole family are moving, halfway
across the world in 3 months.’
She was silent for a moment.
Then, without saying a word, she gave me huge hug, and by that
point I couldn’t stop the tears flowing. I felt that she
was crying too, when she said,
‘Hey, we’ll be fine.
We’re best friends right? We’ve been through
everything. We can get through this. We have phone calls, Skype,
Facebook, and holidays! And, if you don’t like it, you can
move back when you’re 18 in two years! But still you
don’t know how much I’ll miss you! No one will
replace you, I can promise you that. Also, another thing I
promise is that your last three months as a California girl, are
going to be the best three months of your life so far.’ She
winked at me.
I laughed, as she dried my
tears.
‘And those three months are
starting now. Go and get ready for the beach, I’m dressed
already,’ she said, flicking her bikini straps by her tank
top.
I ran upstairs, threw on my
spotty red bikini, denim shorts and an Abercrombie t-shirt. I
left my make up off today, deciding to go with the natural look.
I left my hair natural too; just running a brush through it and
pinning my bangs back off my face.
I pushed the whole moving
situation to the back of my mind, and decided to just spend today
having a good time.
We got to the beach at 12, and
met a few of the guys there. The weather was amazing, considering
the rain yesterday. Just proves that the weatherman is
unreliable. We all just and a really good day, running in and out
of the sea, eating ice creams and sunbathing. We all stayed and
watched the sunset, sitting in a big group on the sand. I
didn’t tell them about me moving though- I had had enough
of that this morning.
Charlie and I walked home
together, talking about school, boys, and other general things.
She knew not to mention me moving, although I could see in her
eyes that she wanted to ask me about it. We parted ways at my
house, as mine was first in the row. I gave her a long hug before
dashing inside, just in time for dinner.

The Move.
Chapter 1.
‘Mom?’ I called out,
walking in our front door.
‘In here, honey.’ She
shouted from the kitchen.
I dropped my bag down on the
stairs and breezed into the kitchen. When I got to the door, I
stopped suddenly. ‘Hi dad?’ He smiled uneasily back
at me.
I shot a confused glance towards
my mom, who looked down guiltily. You see, my father was never
home. He was always at work, and never spent time with me or my
sister. I don’t think I remember him ever being home
earlier than 7pm. I walked over to the fridge and grabbed a can
of coke, popped it open and started sipping it. I slumped down in
the kitchen stool opposite my parents.
‘So, how was your
day?’ I asked casually.
‘Well, mom and I have some
big news for you. I’m not sure if you will like it or not,
but there’s nothing we can do about it. Erm... today, my
boss called me out to his office. He told me that a job had
opened up in the UK that would earn another fifty thousand
dollars annually. Your mom and I both agreed that we should move,
and take the chance now, before it goes to someone else. The
company will of course take care of all the relocation. I know
the move will be difficult for you... but it’s for the good
of the family. I’m sorry.’ My dad
explained.
I was stunned- absolutely
speechless. We couldn’t be moving halfway across the world!
No! Not now! I don’t want to sound conceited, but I have a
pretty good life. I have great friends, guys and girls, which no
one could replace. Not even starting on my best friend, Charlie.
Charlie and I have been best friends ever since we started
elementary school.
‘What? No way! I am NOT
moving to the UK! But what about my friends? And school?!’
I half yelled, half cried.
‘Sweetie, it’s for
the best!’ mom exclaimed, ‘With all the extra money,
we can buy a fantastic house, and you can have whatever you
want!’
‘Madison, we’re doing
this now for the good of the family. Your mom’s just been
let go from her job, and Ellie is just about to start
8th grade, and you starting your sophomore year.
It’s an amazing chance, Maddie; we’d be stupid to
pass it up.’ Dad explained in a calm voice.
‘I need to go out for a
walk, to think about this, okay?’
I grabbed my phone out of my bag
before walking out of the house and slamming the door. I ran to a
deserted park at the end of my street, and flung myself on the
swing.
Hmm, England. I had
always wanted to go there, I guess. But moving there? That was
totally different. They had the cutest accents ever, I must
admit! It would be a good adventure... But what about Charlie?
She was my everything, and we were literally joined at the hip.
My life without her would be so boring; you could never find
someone like her!
About 20 minutes later, after
some hard thinking, I felt something wet splash onto my cheek,
and I turned my head up to the sky to see big dark clouds above
me. The rain started pouring down around me, and I jumped off the
swing, almost falling over. I sprinted back to my house, getting
soaked on the way.
I jumped inside the door and
quickly hopped up the stairs to get changed into something
comfier and dry. As I was feeling much calmer, I went downstairs
and into the kitchen to my mom and dad.
‘I have been thinking about
it. The whole moving thing… I realise that we have to go,
for your job and stuff, and it would be extremely selfish of me
to keep you back. As long as we get to visit EVERY holiday, and
also you allow me to call Charlie at least once a day. If
that’s all alright… When are we
going?’
They looked at each other with
surprise, and then smiled at me. Suddenly my mom jumped forward
and gave me a huge hug and said,
‘Really? I expected much
more of a fight! We are going in 3 months, in August. You will
start at Oakmoore School. It really is great, but it’s got
uniform, which I know will be a drastic change for
you…’
We spoke for the rest of the
night about details on the move, and by the end of the night I
discovered that my parents had already looked for houses, and had
picked out a beautiful one on an absolutely stunning island
called Jersey. They showed me pictures, and I have to say that I
was kind of… looking forward to it. But as soon as I felt
a little bit hopeful and excited, I crashed back down again at
the thought of telling Charlie.
tell me if you like it, and if you
want me to write more?(:
i havnt proof read it.. oh well:p tell me if there are any
mistakes!
p.s jersey is a real place:L i live there hahah!
google it,it really is stunning!<3
