I've never been so proud
of my mom.
She
works at a private school, designed for children who struggle
with reading and writing.
I never thought much of it, because I
never experienced illiteracy myself.
But then, yesterday, she was talking
to my aunt about this little boy.
He's six, and adopted.
When he was a week old, his mother
overdosed.
No one knows his father...
So immediately, he was placed in foster
care.
For the first three years of his life, he
was abused...
mentally, physically, and
emotionally
by the only "parents" he'd
ever known
all until a young-lady stopped by and
found him
locked away in his room
no teeth
never knowing a doctor.
He was taken away from the foster
family
and adopted by two loving
mothers.
His new moms gave him all the support in
the world.
They got him counsellors.
And eventually, they ended up at my
mother's school.
On Thursday, my mom had her first
conference with the family.
And the entire room was brought to
tears.
The little boy spent an entire day with
his grandfather for the first time...
and when he was asked about the day he
said
"Grandpa has a
cane, but he can still fight off the bad guys."
This little boy is
so absolutely terrified that one day
the outpouring of love will
stop
and the beating will start
again
the mean words.
To some of us, school is teaching the
word "cat"
but to this little boy it's a reason
for his mommies to be proud.
It's that feeling in his heart that
things are different now
and he's finally
safe.
To Kylie
since i can't keep you from being with my brother, I figured
I should give you some words of advice. 1. His heart is as
fragile as the ridiculous china your family eats off of; you play
with it, I "play" your pagent-girl face. 2. His family
means the world to him; don't think a few fake tears will
tear him away from us. 3. He is one of the busiest boys in the
world; baseball, football, and all his clubs will take up time.
4. He has a short temper; he'll freak out over something that
seems really stupid, but it was really a build up of little
things. 5. As his little sister, I will always give you a hard
time, regardless of how nice you are. 6. Keep in mind, I have a
lot of friends who play hockey and football, and they like jail
food. 7. He is not a toy. Do not play games with him. 8. The fact
that he is dating you even though I do not like you says
something; don't take advantage of that. 9. He will not kiss
you for the heck of it; kisses actually mean something to him.
10. He will not sleep with you; our momma taught us better than
that. 11. He will never betray you, so never betray him. 12. He
hates it when girls whine; hint hint, don't. 13. He will
never, ever, ever replace me, so don't even try to make him.
14. I have a lot of resources, so whatever you say or do can and
will be used against you. 15. If you break his heart, move to
Australia; you won't be safe unless there is a large body of
water between you and I.
Hate,
Katie
