The Secret That Killed
part

We finally made it to the beach.
Pretty much everyone was there already. I introduced
Ethan to everyone. He fit right in. He was throwing a
football with a few of the guys while I was tanning
with Sydney and a few other girls. Out of nowhere he
walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to go for a
walk. Of course I said yes. We started walking away
when all my immature friends shouted stuff at us.
“So, where are you from?” I asked him.
“New York.” He said. “Really,
that’s so cool I have only been there once but
it was a beautiful city. What made you move down here
to Florida?” I said. “It’s
complicated. But why does it matter really. If I
wouldn’t have, I never would have met
you.” He said. “True.” I giggled
and started to blush. “So, where’s your
dad at?” “What do you mean?” he
said. “You said that you moved here with your
mom and brother. Does he still live in New York? I
know I hate having my parents divorced but my mom
only lives a few hours away. Yours lives states
away!” I blabbed. “Uh, no. my dad died
when I was younger.” He said quietly. “Oh
my gosh. I am so sorry. I had no idea.” I
replied. “It’s okay.” He said.
“What did he die from?” I asked. He
looked and me like he was starting to get upset.
“Look we don’t have to talk...” I
was interrupted. “Look I should get home and
finish unpacking some stuff.” He started to
walk away. “Alright. Well, I guess I’ll
talk to you later!” I yelled. He looked back
and waved. I’m so stupid. I may have just blown
my chances with Ethan. I just don’t understand
why he is so secretive about his past. I walked back
over to Sydney. “What happened?” she
asked. “He had to go.” I said. “Oh,
are you okay? You seem a little upset.” She
said. “What? No. I am fine.” I said. I
started to gather up my stuff. “I just have to
go. I um remember my dad gave me a long list of
chores to do today.” “Oh. Okay, I
guess?” she said confused. “Yeah,
I’ll call you later okay? Bye!” I ran
off. I ran straight to my house. I was so mad at
myself. I ruined my chances with Ethan and I upset
him. Way to go Callie.

I was woken up by the beautiful sun
shining through my window. I jumped out of bed, put
on my bikini and jean shorts and tank top,
straightened my hair and put on a little bit of
waterproof make-up.. I walked out to the kitchen
where I saw my father making some coffee. I got a
bowl of cereal and had a seat at the table.
“Good morning Callie. What plans do you have
for your first day of summer break?” he said
“I um am going to the beach today.” Just
then my best friend Sydney walked up to the sliding
glass door and knocked. “Hey, mom, I got to
go.” I grabbed my bag and ran out the door.
Sydney and I were walking down the sidewalk when we
passed a house that has been for sale for years.
Surprisingly people were moving in. A really cute guy
walked out of the house. “Can I help you
guys?” he said “I didn’t know
someone bought this house.” Sydney said.
“Yea. My mom, my brother and I got here
yesterday.” He said. “Oh, I see. I am
Callie; I live a few houses up the road. And this is
Sydney, she lives about two blocks away.” I
said. “Nice to meet you, I am Ethan.” He
said. “Well, we got to go, but if you would
like a bunch of us from our school are meeting at the
beach for the whole day. You should come and stop
by.” I said. “Maybe.” He said. I
and Sydney walked away and around the corner.
“You love him don’t you?!”Sydney
said. “What? I don’t know what
you’re talking about!” I blushed and
smiled. “Oh my gosh! I knew it!”She said.
“Oh, shut up!” I laughed and shoved
her.”Do you think he’ll come to the
beach?” we heard someone yell my name. it was
Ethan. “I don’t know. You tell me!”
Sydney laughed and started walking away. I waited for
him to catch up to me. “So, you decided to
come?” I said. “I couldn’t pass up
the chance to spend the day at the beach with a
pretty girl like you.” He said. I started to
blush. We started walking. We talked the whole way to
the beach. Everything about him is perfect. His
really short brown flippy hair, his hazel eyes, and
his perfect smile that made me melt. He was rather
tall and really skinny.
