“He knew it was my birthday, so why hasn’t he called yet?” I sat wondering to myself, “Has he forgotten? Did he run out of credit? Is he in trouble?” But I just couldn’t think why he hadn’t called yet. I thought to myself that I needed to stop worrying, it was my birthday, and I have mom waiting downstairs for me. So I ran down stairs to see her sitting at the table with a large present on the table. “Happy sixteenth birthday sweetie, come on, come open it.” Mom said with a large smile on her face. I quickly opened the birthday card, it read;

To my darling daughter Katie, You have grown up so fast. I remember when you were just a little girl playing with Barbie dolls, teddy bears and dressing up as a princess. You have matured into a beautiful woman, with you dark brown, curly hair and your amazing dark turquoise eyes. Please stop growing up dear, and stay happy. Love from mom.

I shut the card and placed it on the kitchen bench. I walked over to the dining table, “now Katie, this present is from me and Grammy, and it was very expensive. I don’t want anyone touching besides you”, “yes mom” I replied with a slight smirk on my face. As I tore off the pink gift paper, I noticed a photo of an Apple Mac laptop. “Thank you so much, I can’t believe you got me a laptop, oh my god, I LOVE YOU!” When I said I wanted a laptop, I never thought that she would get me one. There was so much going through my mind about my new present. I can take it to school, I can finally go on social websites and I can email Jake…

I noticed that it was 7:34 and I had to be ready for school, I quickly ran back up to my room, put on my blue and white uniform, brushed my hair, grabbed my bag with my new laptop in it and came downstairs so I wouldn’t miss the bus. When I walked outside I noticed a bunch of red roses tied with purple ribbon and a card that read; Meet at the park at 7:50. I looked around to see who it was from “I wonder if it is from Jake” I muttered to myself. I yelled out to mom “love you mom, thanks for the laptop”. I ran down to the road and seen my tow best friends, Sarah and Tamika. “Happy Birthday Girlie” Tamika said in a cheerful voice, “Yeah, happy birthday. So fill us in, what did your mum get you?” Sarah exclaimed, “She got me a laptop! I am so happy, gosh I love her... Also did you guys send me these roses?”, “That’s heaps cool! And Nah we didn’t? Let me read the card.” Sarah said while taking the card off me. “Well I’m not sure who it’s from but let’s go down and find out, we have two minutes to get to the park”.

We walked off gossiping about who the person sent the roses to me could be. “Oh my god” Tamika said looking shocked, “wha-“ I didn’t even get to finish my sentence and I knew what she was talking about. The path leading into the park was covered in red, white and pink rose petals. It looked amazing. “come on Katie, lets follow the path” Sarah said. We walked slowly, observing every small detail around us, trying to spot something else. I turned to face Tamika and noticed they stopped walking a few metres back. “Keep walking Kate, we’ll be here waiting for you” Tamika said. I had a feeling they knew what was going on, so I kept walking for another minute or so and noticed Jake standing there with a suit on. “Happy birthday baby” said Jake, he looks so handsome. “Jake! What’s all this?” I said whilst smiling “I wanted to give you something to remember, not every day you turn sixteen.”
I turned away to look at everything that he had arranged, when I looked back at him I noticed he was holding a box with the same type of ribbon that held the roses together. “another present?” I said while examining the box. “open it babe” Jake said. I carefully untied the ribbon and took off the lid of the box, “oh gosh babe, its beautiful” he brought me a dress! And not just any dress, the one I have been wishing for. I gave him a huge hug and kissed his face all over. “now get changed babe, we are going out”, “going out? Babe I look like a mess, look at my hair”, “its ok, you can fix yourself up while we are in the limo.”
