If you fall in love with a writer there’s something you
should know. You’ll become immortal. Your favourite jacket
will be worn by a character in a screenplay that never goes to
air, your eyes will be described in a string of poems left in a
notebook, the way you breathe, the lighteness in your sleep will
be described in stories, the way streets are in maps. Maybe one
day you’ll be in a coffee shop, and your writer would have
long left, but you’ll come across a story, and suddenly the
character smiles the way you do, or makes the same jokes, or even
thinks in the same way. The character will be its own, as all
characters are, but you’ll know that your writer studied
you. For even if the story sounds a little different, or the plot
has been made up, you’ll know that parts of you will be
left between the lines. If you fall in love with a writer, you
become their words.
