Secrets
I slid out of the bathroom door. I
creeped down the stairs, where the party was slowly dying. Jace
was playing beer pong as Kendall and Minnie danced with a
couple other people. I walked over to the bar area, and grabbed
a martini. Jace noticed me, and came up behind me.
“Where have you been, Sugarkiss?”
“I’ve been sleeping upstairs, I got
tired.”
He laughed bluntly, I knew he had been smoking weed. He goosed
me, then turned around going back to his activities. The
bartender handed me another Martini.
“You alright?” He asked, wiping down the
counters.
“Yeah, I’m fine. What time is it?”
“Umm, it’s probably around
twelve’thirty.”
I began to freak out. Mom would be home soon, and I
hadn’t cleaned the house yet. I ran to Jace.
“Gotta go Babe, Love you.”
I gave him a quick kiss, then ran out the door. I practically
flew into my car, and made way home. The darkness made it hard
to see, considering the fact I only had one working headlight.
I raced other cars until I turned onto Swan Lane. I pulled my
car into the garage, then stepped out. The door was already
unlocked, so I let myself in. I heard my mom yell loudly, which
frightened me. I stood behind the kitchen wall, listening to
what I heard.
“Dammit Noelle, how many times do I have to tell you to
not let the dog spill water err’where?” My
mother’s voice sounded strong. My sister Noelle was
fourteen, and never paid attention when the dog let water get
everywhere after drinking something. My mother continued
cussing, I knew the liquor was in her system. I noticed my dog
hiding behind me, scared to death. I bent down, and hugged my
little golden retriever.
“Come here Lulu, come here baby. Taylor’s got
you,” I whispered.
My mother yelled something that scared me senseless.
“WHERE’S THAT DOG? I’MA KILL IT TO TEACH
Y’ALL A LESSON! COME HERE’ LULU! C’MERE
LULU!” my mother shouted.
I held Lulu tight, worried sick. Her little paw touched my
knee, and she whined lightly. My mother turned the corner, to
find me cuddling Lulu.
“GIVE ME THAT DOG! I’MA TEACH YOU A LESSON! THIS
DOG JUS’ MAKE A BIG MESS!”
She struggled, but eventually grabbed Lulu by the collar. She
drug her outside to the back, and threw her down. Lulu whined
as Mama locked the door. Me and Noelle watched out the window,
crying, trying to unlock the door. Mama started beating Lulu
with her bare hands, hit by hit. Lulu whined and cried, trying
to get away. I ran to the kitchen, grabbing a hammer from the
drawer. I beat the glass down, but it was too late. Lulu had no
movement, and Mama was backed away. My sister was in the corner
crying, and I began doing the same. Mom pulled the dog away,
and put her in a can. I was breathless, watching my dog be put
into a can. Mom turned around with a grin.
“You girls should learn not to make a mess in my house.
Same thing could happen to you.”
She climbed through the large hole in the door that I made.
“We needa get some sleep,” Mama smiled happily.
I held myself together.
“Maybe she’s still alive, we need to look!” I
whispered with hope.
I ran over to the trash can, pulling my dog out. She was barely
whining. I ran to my car, gently laying my baby in the
backseat. Noelle climbed in the back with her, and held her. We
drove to the pet emergency, and gave the dog to the nurse. The
front desk woman asked me to fill out a paper.
Name: Taylor Rossilyn Matthews
DOB: December 12, 1995
Reason: Dog got hit by a car
Me and Noelle sat in the waiting area, crying together. A nurse
came out towards us.
“Good news and bad news.”
I jumped up, ready for information.
“Well your dog is okay, but she was pregnant when she got
hit by the car. Well, we just performed a birth on her, and she
gave birth to four beautiful puppies. But only one was born
alive, I’m sorry.”
I was in shock.
“And what about Lulu?”
“She’s okay, but she has a ton of bruises. Her rib
is fractured, and she has a broken paw. But she will be okay.
Can you come by tomorrow around noon to pick her up?” The
nurse asked.
“Um, sure. Thank you.”
I walked away with Noelle. I was so happy that we could save
Lulu.
“Well, this is good,” Noelle said.
“Yeah, I’m just worried about mom.”
Noelle struck me with a serious face.
“No! We have to do something…” She said.
“What?”
Noelle took a deep breath.
“We have to keep this a secret.”
