Gently in Love

[chapter 9]

“So where are you two going?” Lara asks me.

“I don’t know” I laugh, applying my mascara and eyeliner.

“What are you going to wear” She asks me.

I knew she was dying to pick out my outfit.

“You choose” I smile, and she squeals and she runs to my wardrobe.

Harry arrives at my door at 7:30 pm.

“You look pretty” He smiles, as we walk out to the warm air.

“Thank you” I smile, “Where are we going?”

“It’s a surprise” He grins.

It’s still bright out as we get to Meadow Restaurant, a very expensive restaurant.

My eyes widen. “Harry!” I squeal, “This is too expensive!”

“Well, I have money to spend” He smiles.

We enter the beautiful restaurant, and get seated for a table for two.

I notice the table had been reserved.

“I have another surprise” He says as we leave the restaurant.

He puts a blind fold around my eyes and holds my hand, as we walk down some mysterious path.

He takes off the blindfold, and I realise I’m in Meadow Forest.

This was my favourite place in the world, which I once remember telling him.

“Thank you so much” I smile and wrap my arms around him.

We lay down on the forest ground, and I didn’t care about my clothes or my hair, I just knew that I was having a good time.

I lay down my camera, and threw off my shoes.

I closed my eyes, and heard a click, and a few beeping noises.

Harry grabbed my waist, and practically threw me in the air.

I giggled, and then he caught me, and kissed me.

[chapter 7]

I open my eyes to the sound of waves and a pinky orangey sky.

I check my phone to see that it is only 6:30 in the morning.

I then realise my head was resting on Harry’s arm and notice he has a faint smile on his face.

He seems happy.

I throw on my shorts and leave on my bikini top and find myself running into the water.

“Ssh” A Voice says, and when I look up, Harry is there, his finger pressed to his lips, “You think Lara wakes up this early?” He grins.

“Oh yeah, I forgot” I laugh.

“Want to go for a walk?” He asks.

“Sure” I grin, “Help me up”

We walk down the beach and talk.

He slips his hand into mine, and I smile to myself.

“Natalie? Can I ask you something?” He smiles.

“Of course” I say.

“You know the way, well I know it must, I don’t want you to”-

“Spit it out, Harry” I laugh.

“If you’re not doing anything tonight, I was going to ask you.. to maybe come somewhere with me?”

I grin.

“Of course I will” I smile.

“Your parents won’t mind?”

“No, my parents love you” I laugh, but then feel myself blushing.

He smiles at me.

I smile at him.

The whole world was smiling.

[chapter 7]

“Where’s Jay?” Mum asks as she comes to collect us.

“Oh he had to go” I say, and smile.

Suddenly an idea pops into my head.

“Dad,” I say, “Do we still have that tent in the trunk of the car?”

“Yeah, why?”

“Could we camp down here tonight?”

Dad hesitates.

“Come on, Dave, she deserves it” Mum says.

“Well, ok” Dad gives in, “But will your parents mind?”

“Nope” Lara and Harry grin.

“Okay, I’ll help you set it up” He says and after 15 minutes we have the tent set up with sleeping bags too.

“Thanks Dad,” I kiss his cheek.

“Natalie?” Dad whispers.

“Yes, Dad?”

“I prefer Harry to that Jay fella”

I grin, “Bye Daddy”

When they leave, I grin to my friends.

“So what will we do?” Lara asks.

We sit in our sleeping bags in a circle and talk.

After a while, I notice Lara was drifting off to sleep.

I check my phone. 2:30 am

“I suppose its just me and you” Harry grins.

“I suppose so” I smile.

I grab my camera and take a picture of us together.

As I look at it, I feel butterflies in my stomach.

“Beautiful” I smile.

[Chapter 7]

We cuddled up on my bed, sharing thoughts, opinions, memories.

“You said you had to tell me something” I say.

“Oh yeah!” She says, and grabs my hand, “It might be too soon, but I think I’ve met the one” She smiles.

“What’s his name?”

“Shane, he’s my age, he’s tall, he works in Tessa’s Milkshake Parlour, he’s amazing, and we started going out last night!”

“That’s great!” I say, laughing, but the Lara’s face turns white.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m so stupid!”

“Why?”

“You’ve just broke up with Jay, and now I’m telling you my amazing news! Oh my God, I’m so sorry!”

She grabs me and hugs me, rubbing my hair as I sob, not realising how heart-broken I was.

“You know who’d be good for you?” She says.

“Who?” I ask.

“Harry”

I quickly sit up, staring at her.

“Harry who?” I ask.

“Harry” She says, “Harry, our best friend, and I don’t know about you, but I think he likes you”.

I stare at her.

“Like likes you” She whispers.

[Chapter 6]

We order and talk, and I smile at Jay, trying to act like everything is OK, just for my Parents.

Why should I even bother?

When our dinners come, I pick at it, too busy thinking to eat.

“Don’t like it?” Mum asks

“It’s lovely, thanks” I say, and wolf it down, not realising how hungry I was.

Holly smiled at me and talked to me for a while, and then switched to Harry.

She seemed to love him as much she loves Lara.

 “I was thinking,” Mum says, “That you four could go to the beach?” She smiles.

“Sounds great” Lara smiles, we’ll go now then, yeah?”

“I’ll pay for my dinner” Harry smiles,

“Me too” Lara insists.

“I will too” Jay says. Of course, he always sucks up to my Dad.

“No way! Of you go now, we’ll ring when we’re collecting you” He says and we get up and leave.

We talk on the way, Harry talking to Jay, Lara talking to me, and as we reach the beach, Lara grabs my hand and shoots down across the sand, and I can’t help laughing.

We end up in a heap on the sand, laughing until we can’t breathe.

Jay comes and helps me up, but I push him away, and turn my back to him.

“What’s wrong? You haven’t been talking to me all day”

“Why don’t you ask Karen?” I say, walking away.

“I suppose I should leave then” He calls out to me.

“I suppose you should”

“Ignore him” Harry says, taking my hand, and looking at me in the eyes, “He’s obviously not good enough for you”.

I smile. “I suppose I just pick the wrong people”

He grins, still holding my gaze.

“He’s gone” Lara says, “If he stayed one more minute, he’d be in the water” She laughs.

I take of my shoes and run into the water, squealing as Lara and Harry run in, and as we splash each other, I peer into the darkness, and see Jay walking away, hopefully forever.

[Chapter 5]

We walk into the restaurant, me and Jay still pretending to be happy.

Mum and Dad choose a table while Lara and I walk to the bathroom.

“Karen is a cow”

“I know”

“So is Jay, how could he do that to you?”

“’Cause, he’s a cow” I say, as an old lady walks out of a cubicle.

“Watch your language” She snaps, and I shrug my shoulders and apply my mascara.

“I’m staying at your house tonight” She tells me, smiling.

“Good”.

“I need to tell you something I’m not supposed to tell” She says.

My heart starts pounding.

“I’ll tell you later”. She says, as we walk back into the restaurant.

I take the seat next to Harry, far away from Jay as possible.

“All ok?”

“Yea, fine, why?” I smile to reassure them.

“No reason”.

Then, I look from Harry to Jay.

Two complete different people.

Two complete different guys.

[Chapter 4]

“I tried to warn you” Harry whispered, as there was a knock on the door.

I knew it was him, if it was Lara, she would just walk in.

“All ok?” Mum asked walking to open to door.

I nodded, and went out to the kitchen to get a drink.

Harry followed me.

“Look, just play along, ok?”

I nodded. “Thanks” I smile.

“For what?” He asked.

“For trying to warn me” I say, sipping my water.

“You know I’ll do anything for you” He smiled, and for some reason, my heart started beating faster and faster.

There was voices talking in the hall, and I heard mums voice saying “in the kitchen”.

“Hi, Natalie”  Jay said, wrapping his  arms around me. I shrugged them away, and went to get my coat.

“Hello?” Lara called as she entered my home.

“Hey” I smile, “Can I talk to you?”

“No. I want to talk to you. Why is Jay here? I saw him in the kitchen, what happened you at the beach! You just ran away! I was worried sick!” She was babbling away to herself.

“He had his arms around … Karen” I say, my eyes getting watery.

Lara whispered a curse, and then we walked into the kitchen, ready to go.

“Ready?” Asked Dad.

“Yea” I force a smile.

“Let’s go then”

We all walk out to he car, Jays arm around my waist.

“I have to talk to you” He whispers, but Harry and Lara seem to hear.

“Save it, you’re not ruining this dinner like you ruined our relationship”

“Listen, don’t be a cow, Natalie” He whispers, and just as we’re at the car, I stop.

“I’ve been called worse.”

“And what have you been called?”

“Your Girlfriend” I say, and get in the car, with Harry beside me.

{Chapter 3}

“Hey” Mum greeted me at the door, “We’re thinking of going out to Chillys’ for some Chinese?”

I nodded, gave her a watery smile and walked slowly up the stairs.

“Natalie?”

“Yes, Mum?”

“Are you ok?”

I hesitated.

“Yes, of course Mum, why?”

There was a pause.

“Oh, ok, get ready now and we’ll leave in twenty minutes”.

I ran up to my bedroom to meet my little sister Holly sitting on our bed.

“Hey Holly” I smiled and gave her a hug.

Holly is only five, she has curly blonde hair with big dark brown eyes

“What’s wrong Natalie?” She asked me, clutching my arm.

I reassured her with a smile. “Nothing Holl, why?”

“You look sad”

I smiled.

“Let’s get you dressed, eh?” I smiled, taking out her pretty summer dress that had the colours pink, purple, blue and red in it.

I put the dress on her, and pretended to be astonished.

“Wow you look quite beautiful, Princess Holly!” I laughed, tickling her stomach.

She giggled and watched me put on my dress, which was purple and the skirt of it had a tutu material attached.

“Wow!” She squealed and I stuck out my tongue at her.

As we were coming down the stairs, someone knocked on the door.

Holly ran and opened it, and then she called out “Natalie! Harry is here!”

“Hey” I smiled, “Come in”.

“Are you ok?” He asked me “I saw the way you ran away..”

“Oh, it’s fine, I mean”-

“Hello, Harry” My father smiled, “I assume you’re coming to dinner with us? And where is Lara?”

I stared at my Dad “What?”

“We invited Harry and Lara for you, dear” Mum said.

“Oh” and Dad said, “And Jay”

{Chapter 2}

I ran down the road, and stopped for a minute or two.

 I sat on the nearest bench there was and checked my turquoise blackberry. It was five o’clock, Mum would want me home in an hour, for dinner, with my family, who actually love me, who actually care.

 “Natalie!” I heard a call. It was Jay.

 I spat an insult of the sight of him.

“What?” I snapped, getting up from the bench, ready to walk away or ready to hit him if he dared touch me.

“It wasn’t me” He said, giving me his puppy look, “ You know how much you mean to me”

 “I don’t mean as much as a piece of sh*t to you” I spat.

“Don’t me like that” He said ready to hug me.

“Touch me and your head will be smashed off the ground”.

He stared at me. “Since when have you become so agrresive?”

“Since when have you become such a jerk?”

“Please, don’t do this”

“Just leave”

“But”-

“LEAVE”

“Fine” He sighed. “I’ll call you tomorrow”.

{Chapter 1}

“Natalie!” Lara squealed “Quick, hurry! Everyone is down at the beach!”

 I ran quickly after her, laughing, and flew quickly across the sand, feeling like I was on top of the world.

 “Hey Nat” Jay said grinning as he met me with a quick wink and took my hand.

  I looked at the group around me, there was Jay, Lara, Katie, Mark, Gary, Emily, Harry and Karen. Wait.. What? What was Karen doing here? I could feel her staring at me, a cool, icy stare, and made a shiver down my spine.

“Hey Guys” I smile as Jay put his arm around my waist.

 “Hey Nat” They chorused.

Harry, my best mate, grinned at me and I grinned back.

“So, who’s coming for a surf?” Jay laughed as he grabbed his surf-board, as he began to run down to the water.

“I might wait here a while” I smile, “Anyone else?”

 “I’m just absorbed with this new book” Emily grinned, “I’ll hang with you, Nat”

 “I might too” Gary and Lara said and sat down beside me.

So Katie, Harry, Mark ran down after Jay.

 Karen stared at me for a minute “Jay!” She squealed, “Do you have a spare surf-board?” And with that she ran after Jay.

 I lay down as the sun shone on me, and after a while I got bored and sat up. Emily was absorbed in her book, but what about Lara or Gary? No luck, they were sitting on the benches in a total ‘I love you’ kiss.

  “You okay?” Emily smiles looking up from her book.

 “Suppose” I smile.

   I walked down to the water and suddenly my heart stopped.

  There was Karen and Jay.

With Karen staring into his eyes.

My mouth dropped, and when Jay looked back, he pushed her away and ran towards me.

Too late. I was already gone.
