Two
Mommies
*Prologue*
Margret, also known as
Maggie, Entered the building of the Richland Country
Preschool.
Holding her moms hand she
walked down the hall, looking at all the pretty pictures made by
last year preschool class.
She abruptly stopped as she saw a drawn picture of a house with
the family outside of it.
She was always curious why whenever she saw a picture of a
family, she always saw a mom and a dad, and of course the rest of
the family. But she never understood why her family, which
didn’t seem like much of a family to her, never had a
dad.
Her mother felt the tug of her being pulled back as Maggie
stopped. As she turned she saw her daughter looking at the drawn
house of a preschooler with the family outside.
“Come along Maggie, it’s your very first day
of school, mustn’t be late” She sighed.
Maggie was hesitant to follow, being her first day, but followed
nonetheless.
They approached the classroom and peeked inside. Maggie’s
eyes widened as she saw little boys and girls playing with the
most wonderful and colorful of toys. Maggie looked up to her
mother with her big green eyes, as if she was asking for
permission with her eyes. She nodded slightly, saying it was ok.
Maggie immediately went for the toy train set, as she had never
seen such a wonderful track in all her of short life! As she
approached the trains, a boy pushed past her. He turned around
and looked disgusted, “Trains are for boys, not girls,
stupid.” He spit. Maggie was shocked at how rude he
was.
“No they aren’t.” She said in her know-it-all
voice. But he just seemed to ignore her. She looked back at her
mom and saw her talking with the teacher, and wondered what they
could be talking about.
“She doesn’t really come from normal family.”
Her mother, also known as Nancy, quickly said. The teacher smiled
“She’ll be fine, I’ll keep an eye on
her.”
Nancy looked around the room until she spotted Maggie, she
motioned her to come. Maggie saw her mother and walked over to
her with her chubby little legs. “Yes?” She asked.
“I’m going to leave, but I’ll be back in a of
couple hours.” Nancy smiled nervously. Maggie didn’t
like that idea! But nonetheless, she didn’t want to worry
her mother. So she responded by saying “Ok, I love you.
Tell mommy I love her too.”
All of a sudden the teachers, whose name was Mrs. Gardner, smile
dropped.
“What does she mean by ‘Mommy?” Mrs. Gardner
questioned. Nancy stared at her for a minute, not able to find
the right words. Maggie didn’t understand why her mother
wasn’t answering, so she answered for her, “I have
two Mommies.”
