A Chance Encounter

Chapter Seventeen (Part Four) [WHOO FOUR PARTS!]

As we walked, I could see the sign for my building slowly come into my line of vision. It disheartened me. This day had been one of the best I’d had in forever; I didn’t want it to come to an end. Even though I would be seeing Niall tomorrow, there was something about tonight that was magical. A very light rain started falling, but I didn’t notice it until I looked to the sky and a droplet fell into my eyes.
“Well,” I shrugged, struggling to hide my disappointment. “This is it.” I gestured to the 15-story building behind us. Niall and I were standing on the sidewalk in front of the dimly lit sign. They really needed to fix that thing.
“This is it.” Niall repeated. He dropped his arm from my shoulders and took my hand. We just stood there for a little bit, maybe two minutes, but it felt like two years. Finally, I managed to speak.
“I had an amazing time today Niall,” I said quietly, trying not to make eye contact.
“So did I, Addie.” Another few moments of silence. Gosh, I thought. This isn’t any easier the second time around.
“I guess I’d better go. It’ll be a few hours before Becca’s home, so I can get my shower and stuff before she gets home and hogs everything!” I laughed.
“I guess so,” Niall whispered. He pulled me in tightly and gave me the longest hug I’d ever had.
“Goodbye, Niall.” I murmured into his ear.
“Goodbye, Addie.” He replied. He released me, and I started up the stairs into the lobby. I was halfway up before I heard somebody call my name.
“Addie! Wait!” I turned around to see Niall sprinting towards me. I watched as he took the steps two at a time before landing right beside me.
Before I knew what was happening, Niall cupped my face in his hand and pressed his warm lips to mine.
It was slightly awkward at first – we weren’t familiar with each other – but as time went on, it became more comfortable. I slid my hands around his neck as his settled on my waist. I pulled away long enough to make sure nobody was coming up the stairs behind us before returning to him, kissing him long and slow.
After what seemed like an eternity, but was in reality probably only five minutes, he leaned back and smiled. “I almost didn’t run back. But I sure am glad I did.” I smiled as he brushed a piece of my windblown hair with the side of his hand and tucked it behind my ear, kissing my forehead as he did so.
“I’m glad you did too,” I whispered into his hear as I put my hands back behind his neck to hug him.

I'm just a girl.
I love being called pretty, but I'll never believe it.
I'm not always right, but I hate admitting I'm wrong.
I'm almost always smiling, but sometimes it's not real.
I can be read like an open book, but I hide so much.
I work hard, but don't always get what I deserve.
I'm in love with a guy who will never love me back.

I'm just a girl.
