Chapter 2
"I definitely need
practice." I sighed as me, Ashlin, and Ty all walked back inside.
"I thought you did pretty good." Ashlin said. "She did do
pretty good, just not as good as she can be." Ty pointed
out. "See?" I said to Ashlin. "Now come on, you know we
have everyday to practice." Ashlin said easily. "Yeah, everyday
until, next week!" I said. "Well, we had all spring
break. The you went and broke your leg." Ty said.
"It's not my fault, I was pushed off my board." I
muttered. "She has a point." Ashlin said. "You think
she has a point because you're her best friend." He
said. I smacked him. "What was that for?" He asked.
"For being my annoying older brother." I said as I
opened the door to my house. "How were the waves
today?" My mom asked. "They were great!"
Ashlin
answered. "Oh, good. Then that means you're ready for
the writing assignment I have for you." She said. "Mom!
It's holiday!" I whined. "Well, that's the
price of being homeschooled." She said matter-of-fact.
"Dang." Ashlin said. "Well we're going to go
change." I said. "All right, but hurry lunch is in five
minutes." She told us. "Right." I nodded. Me and
Ashlin
both went upstairs, took showers, and changed. I changed into a
dark blue tank-top and white shorts, and Ashlin changed into a pink
tank-top and denim shorts.
We came back downstairs an hour later. "Way to miss lunch
even though mom told you when it was." My younger sister,
Eve, said. "Sorry." I said. My mom walked over and
looked at me kind of weird. "What?" I asked. "Why
didn't you come down to lunch?" She asked.
"Reef cut." Ashlin explained. My mom nodded
"It took you an hour to treat it?" she asked. "We
both have reef cuts." I explained and it wasn't a lie.
"It still shouldn't have taken you an hour to treat
it." she told us. "Well, after we got out of the
shower, we had to change and then we had to treat the cuts, which
turned out to be rather complicated considering we had to find
the stuff to treat it with." I explained. My mom nodded
"Alright, but do try to be quicker next time." She
said. "Will do mom." I said. "Do you mind if we go
for a walk?" I asked. "Sure, go on." She said.
"We'll only go as far as the end of the beach." I
said. My mom looked at me and smiled "That's a walk that
takes three to four hours." "I know." I said
smiling back. We started toward the door. "Be careful!"
My mom called to us. "We will!" I called over my
shoulder and shut the door.

Chapter 1
I looked at the waves and took a
deep breath. "Ready Drew?" My best friend
Ashlin
asked me. I raised and eyebrow at her "When am I never
ready?" She smiled. "I guess you have a point."
"Hey!" I turned and saw my older brother Ty walking
toward us with his board. "Hey, Ty!" I said and waved.
"Sorry I was so late. I was held over at work." Ty
explained. "This is why I'm happy that I don't have
to start work until I'm seventeen." I said and smiled.
"Shut up Tessa, it's not my problem that you decided not
to get a car when you're sixteen." Ty said. I glared.
"Tyler don't use my first name." I snapped. He
smiled. "Leave her alone Ty, it's the first time
she's going to catch a wave since she broke her leg!.
Ashlin
said sternly. If there was anyone that Ty would listen to, it was
my five foot four fourteen-year-old, wavy haired best friend. For
whatever reason he wasn't at all terrified of me and I'm
five foot eight and fourteen-years-old with stick straight blonde
hair and light blue eyes. Ashlin had green eyes and brown hair.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Ty muttered. I stuck my tongue out.
Ashlin
laughed. Two girls from the competition that
Ashlin had
just been in walked by. "Hey, Ashlin," one of them sneered
"If your giving your friend there lessons on how to surf
then I feel bad for her." "Yeah," the other one
said, "She's going to be awful!" "If anyone
needs lessons on how to surf it's you. I mean aren't you
two the ones who came in dead last?" I snarled. "Like
you could do any better!" said the first one. "I bet
she could." Ty spoke up. The second girl shot him and evil
look " In her dreams!" "The only reason she
wasn't out there leaving you in the dust in the last
competition is because she had a broken leg!"
Ashlin
smirked. "Will she be at the next competition?" asked
the first girl. "You can count on it." Ty snapped.
"We look forward to seeing you wipe out, beach blond."
said the second girl. They both walked away. I looked at Ty and
Ashlin
"When's the next competition?" I asked. "Um,
next week I think." Ashlin said. "Well then, I guess we
ought to start practicing then..." Ty said. I nodded.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Christmas?"
Ashlin
said and started toward the water. Ty shrugged and followed. I
sighed and followed the both of them.
