Ruined
Chapter 4
I jumped down from Drew's truck. My boots made a thud as they came in contact with
the gravel of his driveway.
He looked at me as we made our way up to his front door, and grinned.
My heart pounded in my chest, and I wondered how awkward this night was going to be.
The only times I've ever actually talked to Drew was when I was drunk. I also didn't know
a thing about him.
What would we talk about?
After we walked into his home, he made his way into a medium-sized room.
There was a black leather couch leaning against the wall on the right, facing the
television. On either side there were small tables with lamps on each, illuminating
the room. He threw his set of keys onto one of the tables and proceeded to
the flatscreen TV.
I wondered what movie he was planning to watch with me.
And frankly, I didn't care because I was with him.
I stood in the doorway of the room as he ransacked his DVDs for something to watch.
He glanced over to me and spoke for the first time since we got here.
"What movie do you want to watch?" He asked, holding up a few DVDs.
"Surprise me," I smiled.
He nodded and popped one in the DVD player.
After doing so, as I leaned against the wall, I watched him pull of his Patriots
sweatshirt, revealing a white tee that emphasized his perfectly sculpted muscles.
I bit my lip and lost myself for a moment.
He seemed to have caught me staring and smiled as he said,"Come sit next to me."
I made myself comfortable on his couch, our thighs grazing eachother.
He draped his arm around my shoulder, and in response I leaned my head on his.
When we got into the opening scene of the movie, a loud screech snapped us out
of our own heads.
A shudder ran through my body, as the noise reminded me of the night I ran over
that man.
I glanced at Drew with question and he just shrugged.
"It's probably nothing." He kissed my head and turned his attention back to the movie.
I was about to do the same when an urgent banging on the door distracted us.
Drew's brow furrowed as he left me to get the door.
I turned my head towards the way he left and tried to listen to what was going on.
All I could hear were muffled voices. One, loud and intense, the other calm.
I got off the couch to see what was going on, but before I could get through the past the door
of the living room, someone blocked my path.
I looked up and there he was. Declan. And he did not look happy.
He grabbed me by the hair and whipped my down to the couch.
I cried out in pain as Drew came through the door, with an expression on his face
that was almost as menacing as Declan's. His eye was becoming swollen and changing color.
Declan had punched him.
I was scared for my life. Scared for our lives.
I had no idea how this was going to turn out.

Ruined
Chapter 3
I walked down the sunny hallway as my head pounded Friday morning.
I squinted my eyes to keep the bothering sun out as much as I could.
The parties Declan made me go to were doing a number on me.
Well, not so much the parties as how much I drank while I was there.
I entered my trig class and sat in my usual seat.
To my surprise, Drew sat in the empty chair next to me.
He turned his body so he was facing me, and smiled.
"Ay, Annabel." He said.
"Hi, Drew." I grinned in return.
His gorgeous blue eyes looked into my green ones as he spoke again.
"You wanna hangout tonight?"
My heart raced and I stopped thinking about my splitting hangover for a moment.
"And do what?"
"Well, I was thinking we could chill at my crib and watch a movie?"
I scattered my brain for any plans Declan would have made for us.
Nothing came to mind, but I still hesitated.
If Declan found out I was hanging out with Drew, things would not go down well.
But I can't live my life being careful because of Declan, right?
"Yeah, I'd like that." I said before I could change my mind.
His smile widened and exposed his straight white teeth.
As our teacher started talking, Drew turned back towards the front. And in doing so,
he grabbed my hand and intertwined his fingers in mine.
I blushed and held his hand in return.
Finally, a night where I can just relx and curl up next to a nice guy. A night
without getting obliterated. A night where Declan couldn't ruin anything.
And I was really happy for that.
After class, my bubbly mood was still in full swing.
But I hadn't gotten very far when, of course, someone had to ruin it.
Declan came up from behind me as I was making my way to lunch.
He grabbed my upper arm and walked next to me as he spoke.
"Yo, we have a little kick-back to go to tonight."
No, this can't be happening, I thought.
"I-I can't tonight, I have a sick aunt in the hospital. We're taking a trip up there
to visit tonight. I'm really sorry." I lied quickly.
A dark look came across his face. "You never mentioned this before."
"Yeah, well I never really had the need to tell you." I replied in a light tone.
He grumbled, but nodded, and walked away.
I let out a relieved breath that I just realized I had been holding in.

Breathless

Chapter 3

We sit outside of Officer Sanchez's office at the station.
I could tell Damon was uncomfortable by the way he stared at the ground and held my hand tight.
Neither of us had any idea how this would turn out. Would Damon go to jail? Would he go to court? Maybe the man was rescued, and hadn't died like Damon thinks.
Fantasies rushed through my head, each one completely different. In one, Officer Sanchez would immediately arrest him and hold him. In another, he would only let him off with a warning. And yet another, Officer Sanchez would scream and yell and blame Damon for the death of an innocent man. Many more scenarios flashed through my mind. Some better, most worse.
As we waited, I could see that Damon was getting more and more anxious. Perhaps he was thinking that the worst case scenario was going to happen, and I couldn't blame him. I also couldn't help thinking the same.
When the policeman opened the door, he smiled and waved us in.
As soon as Damon saw him, he freaked. Sanchez didn't seem to notice.
Damon and I sat in the two chairs that were facing Sanchez, who sat on the other side of a desk. The desk was cluttered with stacks and stacks of papers, and Sanchez seemed extremely stressed.
"So, what seems to be the problem?" The officer sighed as he folded his hands on a messy stack in front of him.
I looked over at Damon, who had clutched my hand tighter, and waited for him to tell the story.
I thought he was mentally preparing, but instead he stood up hastily and spoke in a shaky voice, "You seem awfully busy, sir, so we won't bother you." He then bolted from the room, tugging me along.
"What the hell are you doing? You need to come clean!" I yelled as we stepped onto the road after exiting the station.
"I can't, Annabel, I can't. I don't want to go to jail. I have the rest of my life to think about. I can't ruin it by getting locked up!" His sudden lapse of fear made me angry.
"Your life? What about the guy you shot? You're being a coward and being selfish! You may have ruined a man's life or cut it short, and all you care about is what might happen to you?" I screamed.
I realized I may have just told everyone about his secret, and I quickly looked around. However, there was no one there to hear us. This was something he needed to tell someone himself. Like, now.

feedback please!

Chapter 2 part 2

\"Then what happened?" I tilted my head slightly so he would look into my green eyes.
He looked up and continued. "I didn't know what to do so I did what he said. I emptied my pockets and dropped everything to the ground in front of him. But before I pulled my wallet out I punched his face. He wasn't expecting it, so I used the opening to turn and run away, but I barely went a few steps when I heard a click." He shuddered at the thought, and I just realized a tear was dripping from the corner of my own eye. Hearing the story scared me, and a whole bunch of "what if"s ran through my head.
"Apparently someone saw what was happening and I heard the gun fall on the sidewalk. When I turned around I saw a different guy fighting the guy to help me. It looked like he was losing, so I grabbed the gun and...shot."
I was relieved that the mugger had gotten what he deserved.
Damon was crying now, just streams of tears. "I shot the wrong guy," he choked out.
I gasped and my hand flew to my mouth as an, "Oh my god," escaped my throat.
"I-I didn't mean to, I just missed. The other guy ran, and he just laid there. The blood, oh god, Annabel, there was so much blood."
Jesus. I was thinking he shot the mugger. But it was an innocent man. The man who was trying to save his life. Who did save his life. I had no idea what to think about this.
"I didn't know what to do, so I grabbed my stuff and left. I just left him there."
I got up from out of my seat to go over to his side of the table and Damon flinched at the sudden movement. I didn't really know how to comfort people, and I was not good at it, so all I did was hug him. It seemed to work, though, because he buried his face in my shoulder and then wrapped his muscular arms around my waist tightly.
We stood there for a few moments as people stared. We ignored them and I pulled away just enough so we were face to face. I cupped my hand around his cheek and looked into his watery hazel eyes.
"We have to go to the police about this.”

Chapter 2 part 1

"What the hell do you mean you 'think' you killed someone?" I whispered fiercely, leaning more towards Damon.
"It was an accident," he began.
I can't imagine killing someone could be easy, so how could it be done by accident?
"I didn't mean to." His jaw clenched and he ran his hand through his black, messy hair. Usually when he did this, I thought it was sexy, but right now my mind never even went there.
"So, what happened? When did this happen? Who was it?" I knew I would ask more questions, but these were the only ones I could muster up at the moment.
"It was last night. I was on my way home from your place when some guy blocked my way." His voice got intense when he talked about the guy. I could hear the anger pour from his words. "He came out of nowhere, and then he tried to mug me. He told me to empty my pockets and when I didn't he showed me..." He swallowed but didn't continue.
"Showed you what, Damon?" I pushed.
"A gun. He just lifted his hoodie and it was tucked right into his pants." I could see in his eyes that it was hurting him to picture it, but I needed to know the story. I needed to know that my boyfriend wasn't a murderer.

Chapter 1

He wasn't himself today, and I could tell. He was being sketchy; looking around every few seconds, fidgeting, jumping at every sound. It was starting to freak me out. And it was starting to get on my nerves.
"What is going on?" I asked as I reached over the silver round table and placed my hand over his clenched ones.
Damon sighed heavily and answered vaguely with a quiet, "Nothing."
His tan skin was warm to the touch, and I wondered what was making him so nervous.
He usual never kept secrets from me. He's a sensitive guy, and as a result of being his girlfriend for three months he confided in me.
I had no idea why he wasn't now. Maybe it was because we were in a public Starbucks.
I sipped my latte and watched him carefully. He never touched his coffee.
He looked up at me and saw the worry written all over my face then smiled. It wasn't very reassuring.
"I'm fine. Really." He gingerly sipped his hot drink. "So, what do you want to do for your birthday?"
My birthday was in two days, and I was finally turning eighteen. Finally free of my jackass father and drunk mother. I had been saving my money for years so when I became of age, I could move out straight away and live in my own apartment.
"I am throwing a party at my new place." I smiled happily. "It's actually just down the street from here. It's not big, but it's pretty nice. Rent is good." I looked at Damon proudly. It was pretty much a miracle that I found a good enough place within my budget.
"Sounds great."
It, in fact, did not sound like he thought it was great, even though I thought it was.
I looked at him skeptically. "It is great, actually. I was hoping we could go and check it out after we're done, but whatever." I said irritated that he wasn't sharing my excitement.
He stayed silent for a moment and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Alright, fine. I think maybe we should lay low for a while." He took another sip.
"Lay low? Why?" I raised my eyebrow at him, thinking that maybe he got in trouble with the cops and couldn't risk getting caught with alcohol. Something simple like that. I didn't want to "lay low" on my eighteenth birthday. I mean, for f**k's sake, who does?
But no. God, was I wrong about it being simple.
"Okay, you're officially freaking me out. What is wrong with you?" I set down my cup and looked in his eyes. I could see he was genuinely frightened.
"Something happened last night. Something bad..."
I lifted my hand "Yeah, what...?"
"I might have...um...killed someone."

good?Bad?Should I keep going....?
