The Black Death
Intro
Do you know anything about the
black death? Well i do! It was an horrible disease that happened
in Asia,Africa, and Europe during the 14th century. The disease
started in Asia in the 1340's.The black death killed about 25
million people.Thats a huge number!
Symptoms of the black
death
Victims of the black death went
throught alot of pain. The black death first started with a
headache,and then he/she would have a fever.Sometimes the
victim would experince nausea, vomiting, back pain, orsoreness in
arms or legs.Soon after a day or two swellings appeared on the
skin. They were big and painful lumps which were usually on the
neck, under the arms,or on the inner thigh.Soon the lumps turned
black, spilt open, and then pus and blood came out of the
lump. The lump could have grown to be the size of an orange.Soon
after that black boils and spots appeared on his or her
body.Usually a week after the person got the black death they
would die.
What caused the black death
What caused the black death was
fleas that were carried around by rats that were very common in
towns and citys. Many people who lived during the middle ages
time period thought the black death was caused because of
released vapors from swamps , and decaying matter. They releyed
on the smell of the sweet smelling flowers and herbs mixed
together to cure the black death. The cause of the black death was
not discovered untill the 20th century which was the
1900's.We call this illness today the bubonic
plague.
Were the people safe?
No one was safe during the black
death time period. The black death was everywhere they went. They
tired alot of things to be safe such as locking there doors ,but
none of them worked.During the black death time period everyone
was sick and no one knew why.Can you image how scarded they
were.If that happened today I would have been scarded out of my
mind! In just 10 years the black death killed over 1/3 of
Europe's population.That's crazy!
Effects of the Black Death
One of the effects of the black death is that prices and wages
rose. Also greater vaule was placed on labor. Also peasants moved
from the country to towns. There was also a change in farming
since they couldn't farm anymroe since the sky was filled
with ashes and there was barely no sunlight.Due to the change in
farming there was a boost to the cloth and woollen industry. As
you see there were many effects of the black death happening in
the middle ages.
Conclusion
The black death was a very dangerous disease.I'm very happy
and thankful that we have vaccine to protect ourselves from the
plaque if anything like what happened during the middle ages
happens agian. We are very lucky that we hae a vaccine to protect
ourselfs unlike the people that lived during the middle ages. Can
you imagine being one of those people who lived during the black
death time period? If I did live during the black death time
period I would have been so terrified!
