Chapter 10.
“Eww, that’s
gross!” I giggled, watching Jake pour raspberry syrup
on his chocolate ice cream.
“Oh come on.” He
smiled. “It’s really not that bad, you
should try it.”
“Oh let me think about it,
no.” I said sarcastically.
He rolled his eyes playfully,
shoving a huge spoon of ice cream in his
mouth.
“This is nice.” I
admitted, stirring my ice cream. “You know,
hanging out again.”
“I agree.” He
smiled. “I feel like I haven’t talked to
you in forever.”
“Yeah.” I slightly
laughed, smiling at him. His smile was so,
captivating. Addicting, even.
“Bree? Did you hear
me?”
“What?” I asked,
snapping back into reality.
“Do you want to go for a
walk?” He laughed at my attention
span.
“Sure.” I said calmly,
a little embarrassed.
I stood up slowly, balancing my
weight onto my crutches.
We made our way down towards the
beach, and began walking along the
shoreline.
“So, how was Maine?”
Jake ask hesitantly, shoving his hands into his
pockets.
“Good, I guess.” I
sighed. “Lots of new
friends.”
He nodded, understanding what I
meant.
“But why’d you
go?” He asked curiously.
I thought for a second, debating on
whether or not I should tell him the
truth.
“Well.” I
shrugged. “I guess I just needed to get
away.”
“From?”
“This town, my family,
an-“
“Me..” Jake
interrupted.
“Yeah.” I said
reluctantly. “Kind of.”
“I don’t know why I
acted like I did, Bree.” He admitted, stopping us
from walking. “I was stupid, and selfish, and
it was wrong to do what I did.”
I just looked at him, not saying
anything. I thought about saying it was my fault, but
honestly, it wasn’t. This was his turn to
apologize.
“Do you think you’ll
ever be able to forgive me?”
I then flashed back to all the
names he called me, the torture he put me through. No Jake,
I will never forgive you, I wanted to scream.
However, I forced a smile on the outside, because it was
too late in the game to change the plan.
“I forgive you.” I
smiled.
He eyes lit up, and I felt him
moving closer to me, pushing loose strands of hair away
from my face. Before I knew it, our lips
collided.
And strangely
enough?
I didn't want to pull
away.
Let the drama begin. (:

Chapter 9.
“Jake, this isn’t your
fault, not at all!” I said surprised.
“Jake, y-you saved my life.”
He looked down at me, his eyes
glazed over with sorrow.
“No.” He argued.
“I should’ve gotten you off before I took care
of myself. God, I’m so
selfish!”
“Jake, stop being so hard on
yourself!” I took his hands, holding them in
mine. “What you did was the right thing, stop
trying to convince yourself
otherwise.”
He sighed, examining my leg that
was currently wrapped in gauze.
“The doctor said it’ll
be fine in a few days.” I began, knowing his next
comment would be about by stitches. “It’s
just a little scrape.”
I smiled at him, trying to give him
reassurance, but he was still fully convinced that all of
this was his fault. He gave a weak smile back, and
even though I wasn’t the best with judgment, it was
clearly fake.
“Maybe I could make it up to
you?” He asked, shoving his hands shyly in his
pockets.
It wasn’t like Jake to be
shy. Or maybe it was, maybe it was a habit he had
picked up in the past 2 years I hadn’t been
around.
“I’d like that.”
I gave him a sweet smile, while making myself comfortable
in the hospital bed.
He smiled back, this time for
real.
“We could go get ice cream
after this, if that’s alright with
you.”
“That sounds great.” I
whispered.
“So, it’s a
date?” Jake asked hesitantly.
I felt butterflies quickly enter
the pit of my stomach. Even though this was all just
meant to be a game of revenge, I couldn’t help but
feel excited.
“It’s a date.” I
smiled, trying to sound as calm as
possible.
“Okay Bree, the doctor says
you’re free to go now.” The nurse said, handing
me the extra change of clothes Jaycie had brought in for
me.
I got changed, avoiding the urge to
put pressure on my left leg as much as possible. I
knew that navigating on crutches the next few days
wouldn’t be simple, but I was sure that I would be
able to manage.
-*-*-*-
“Are you sure you should be
going out again already Breanne?” My mother
asked concerned, while standing in the doorway of the
bathroom. “You just got released a half hour
ago.”
“I’ll be careful mom, I
promise.” I assured her. “And don’t
call me that.”
I ran the straightener through my
hair, walking on one leg started to seem a lot easier after
I had experienced getting dressed with only one leg.
I had on my new floral dress, that held tight around my
waist, and fell just above my knees. Even though this
was only ice cream, it was still suitable for the
occasion.
The doorbell suddenly rang, and my
mother called me from downstairs.
“Coming!” I
yelled back, taking one last glimpse of myself in the
mirror.
Don’t forget what you came
back for Bree, I told myself, staring at my
reflection. I limped down the steps with my crutches
to meet Jake. And although my heart raced with
excitement, I made sure that I still had a little sanity
left in my head.
Reminding me that
Jake,
was still the bad guy.
Okay, I know this is only chapter 9,

-Jake's POV-
“Someone page Doctor Rene, stat!” A nurse
yelled to a few by standard
employee’s."
“Bree, I’m so
sorry.” I gripped her hand, squeezing my eyes shut
tightly to avoid the tears.
“Can any of you tell me what
happened to her?” The nurse asked, observing
Bree’s shattered leg.
“S-she was on the
jetski.” I muttered. “And we were about
to hit a tree, so I pulled her off, and she hit the prop,
and, and.”
I broke down, how could I have been
so stupid? I could have just pulled her off a little
further to the left, and we wouldn’t be in this
situation.
“Hey, this isn’t your
fault.” The nurse comforted me, patting me softly on
the back. “The way I see it, you may have saved
her life. Do you know what could’ve happened if
she hit that tree?”
“Well,
n-“
“She could’ve
died.” The nurse cut me off. “But you
saved her. And now, with the proper treatment,
she’ll be fine again in no
time.”
“Bring her in!” A
doctor yelled anxiously.
Bree’s hand released from
mine, and a few of the hospital employees cautiously rushed
her to the operating room.
I sat down in one of the waiting
room chairs, burrying my face into my
hands.
-2 HOURS LATER-
-Bree’s
POV-
“Where am I?” I asked
tiredly, slowly opening my eyes.
I instantly felt a throbbing pain
in my right leg, causing me to scream.
“Bree, calm down.
You’re going to be fine. We just finished
stitching up your leg, so it’s going to hurt a
little.” A nurse explained to
me.
As I reached to grasp my leg, but
the nurse’s hand quickly restrained me from doing
so.
“That’s another
thing.” She added. “Don’t touch it,
we wouldn’t want the stitches coming
open.”
I rolled my eyes, resting my head
back on my pillow.
“What exactly happened to
me? I mean, how did I get here?” I asked
curiously.
The nurse examined her clip board,
looking for some type of identification.
“Well.” She
started. “It says here that a man named Jake
Taylor brought you in. Do you know
him?”
I paused for a second, suddenly
remembering everything that had gone down. The jet
ski, the tree, Jake yelling. I should have listened
when he told me to slow down.
“Y-yes.” I said
reluctantly. “I know
him.”
“Excuse me, nurse?” A
lady poked her head through the door to my room.
“Is she ready for visitors?”
The nurse looked at me with
wondrous eyes. I nodded my head slightly, letting her
know I was ready. The woman then left the room,
and shortly after, I was greeted by all of my
friends.
Everyone gave me hugs, telling me
they were so scared, and glad that I was going to be okay,
except Jake. He approached me slowly, with pain
filled eyes.
“Bree..” He whispered,
hugging me
softly.
"I'm so
sorry."

Chapter 7.
“You tell him girl.”
Zoe gave me an approving wink.
I smiled back at her, pleased with
Jake’s reaction.
“Hey, look at that!”
Jaycie pointed.
We all look towards where she had
pointed, seeing a jet ski rental place.
“Anyone got 50 bucks?”
Ryan asked, seeing the rental fees.
I pulled out two twenties and a ten
from my bag, handing them to Ryan.
“It’s the least I can
do.” I smiled.
We paid for the Jet Ski’s,
then placed our things in the rental
lockers.
“Who’s riding with
who?” Zoe asked. “We only had enough to
rent 3 Jet Ski’s for 2
hours.”
Jaycie quickly clung to Noah,
making it pretty clear who she would be riding with.
Jaycie stepped over to Ryan’s side, which only left
me with Jake. He gave me a small smile, and it only
felt right to give him one in return. I didn’t
want to make this anymore awkward than it had to
be.
“That settles that.”
Ryan said, giving us each a Jet Ski key.
“Let’s go!”
We all rushed down to the jet skis,
claiming the one we wanted. I picked out a bright
neon green one, and being that Jake was a guy, he
didn’t really mind the color.
“Do you know how to work
this?” I giggled, trying to put the key into the
ignition.
Sure, I was being a bit of a flirt,
but it was all part of the plan, right? Jake laughed;
helping me put the key in the correct way. I then
climbed onto the Jet Ski, and Jake climbed on right behind
me. His body was pressed up tight against mine, even
though there was clearly enough room on the
set.
“Better hold on.” I
turned around, smiling at him. Our lips nearly
touched. “I’m a crazy
driver.”
“Whatever you
say.” He teased, wrapping his arms around my
toned waist.
The gentle touch of his strong
hands gave an instant flashback of all those memories 2
years ago. All the summer nights I had tried so hard
to forget. No Bree, stop it. Just
drive.
I twisted the throttle, and the Jet
Ski took off. We instantly became soaked as I made
sharp turns and hit rapid speeds.
“Slow down Bree!” Jake
said in an almost serious tone.
“Why?” I laughed.
“You scared?”
“Slow down!” Jake
said more sternly.
“Oh settle
dow-"
“Bree, lookout!” Jake
screamed.
As I looked ahead, the image of a
large half broken tree trunk came into view. I tried
to swerve, but I couldn’t. It was too
late. Jake held my waist tightly, trying to pull me
off of the Jet Ski, and save me from the
collision.
As he pulled me off of the slippery
black leather seat, we plunged into the cold ocean
water.
I could taste the salty flavoring
seep into my taste buds, and the sharp metal Jet Ski
propeller,
piercing into my
leg.

Chapter 6.
“Wake up Bree; it’s
almost 10:30!” My mom shouted up the
steps.
I slowly opened my eyes, angry at
the fact that my mom was waking me up so early.
Normally, I would wake up around 11:30, even noon
sometimes, but not today, apparently. I crawled out
of bed, picking up my phone that had 1 new message from
Jaycie, telling everyone to meet at the beach around
11:30.
Letting out a tired sigh, I walked
to my closet, deciding on something completely stunning to
wear. Today was step 1 of plan ‘revenge of the
ex-boyfriend.’
Make Jake
jealous.
I wasn’t all that fond of the
name, but I would think of a catchier one
later.
I pulled on my strapless
white cover up over my newly bought Gucci rhinestone
bikini, which I had been saving up for-for nearly a
year. Each strap fell gracefully around all of my tan
curves, that I had worked so hard the past 2 years to
perfect. I then braided my naturally blonde hair down
my back, letting my bangs fall in loose strands around my
face.
After that, I applied my
makeup. Extra sparkly, of course. What’s
a rhinestone bikini without glittery
makeup?
Once I had made myself presentable,
I slipped on my flip flops, and began making my way towards
the beach.
“Are you sure you don’t
want something to eat first, hunny?” My mom asked
concerned. “You’ve barely eaten anything
since you got here.”
“I’m fine mom.” I
assured her. “But
thanks.”
I quickly headed towards the door,
before she began to question my eating habits. I
wasn’t anorexic, or bulimic, or any of that.
Sure, I didn’t eat very often, but I still ate
healthy. You’d be surprised where a few apples
and some exercise will get you.
“Where did you get that
bikini girl?!” Zoe shrieked, running up to
worship my outfit.
“I know a few people.”
I examined my nails, pretending it was not big
deal.
“You have got to hook me up
with one of those.” Jaycie said, scanning what she
could see of my suit, that was still mostly hidden behind
my cover up.
“We’ll see.” I
smirked. “They’re pretty hard to
get.”
Sure, I was telling a few little
white lies. They were clearly impressing Jake though,
so my guilt quickly faded. We all found an empty spot
in the sand, and began preparing to go get in the
water. I watched Jake’s eyes widen as I pulled
of my white laced cover up. Little did I know, he
wasn’t the only one watching.
“Damn Barbie, when did you
get a super model body?” Ryan gaped in
amazement.
I let out a sarcastic laugh,
pulling my aviators down over my eyes. Jake’s
face grew somewhat angry at Ryan’s
comment.
“Well.” I said calmly,
starting to walking down towards the
water.
“The day Jake
decided I wasn't good
enough."

Chapter 5.
We
all slowly turned around, revealing our faces to the
cops.
I wasn’t really all that
scared, until I realized we had guns pointed at
us.
“We didn’t do anything
wrong!” Jaycie said through tears.
The officer told us we could put
our hands down from above our head, and began to question
us.
“So, you folks didn’t
just come out of that house?” The officer asked,
observing us all closely.
“Of course not!”
Zoe exclaimed quickly. “We’re just
walking back from that park over
there.”
The officer looked, seeing the
Glendale middle school park.
“We decided it would be best
to go home after we heard the police sirens.”
Ryan contributed to the lie.
“Oh.” The officer said
surprised, while jotting a few things down on his open
notebook.
I felt myself begin to
shake.
Not only because it was getting
cold out, but because no matter how hard I tried, I
couldn’t lie.
“Are you okay
ma’am?” The officer question me, with a
suspicious look on his face.
“Y-yea-“
“She’s just a little
cold sir.” Jake explained, wrapping his arms around
me to keep me warm.
His touch sent more chills up my
already frozen spine.
“Okay, well, you kids be safe
tonight. You’re free to
go.”
I had to stop myself from letting
out a heavy sigh of relief.
We all turned, staying quiet for at
least ¼ of a mile on the walk
home.
“That was way too close
guys.” Noah broke the rigid
silence.
“Are you kidding me?!”
Jaycie shrieked. “That was f//king
awesome!”
We all glared at her, annoyed with
her lack of attitude to be serious.
“Okay, sorry fun
killers.” She rolled her eyes.
“What’s up for
tomorrow?” I asked, trying to change the
subject.
“How does the beach sound to
everyone?” Jaycie suggested.
We all gave approving
nods.
“I’ll text you all the
time.” Jaycie said, realizing her house was only a
short distance in front of us.
Soon, it was only Jake and I
left.
“That was pretty
freaky.” Jake said, trying to start a
conversation.
“yeah.” I laughed a
little, noticing my house was straight
ahead.
He walked me up to my doorstep,
knowing how scared the situation had made
me.
“Bye Bree.” Jake smiled
slightly as I walked through the door.
I gave him a warm smile, softly
whispering back.
“Goodbye
Jake."

Chapter 4.
“Maybe we were just hearing
things.” I whispered to Jake, as we sat in the bin,
squished together.
“Yeah,
maybe-“
All of a sudden, the sound of a
door busting open came from downstairs.
I clenched my teeth, trying to be
as mute as possible.
I shot a worried look to Jake,
holding back the urge to burst into
tears.
“I don’t want to go to
jail, Jake.” I whispered in a pained
voice.
“Bree, we’re going to
be fine.” He whispered back, interlocking his fingers
in mine.
Normally, I would have pulled away
because of the whole ‘playing hard to get,’
thing.
But not now, no, I was scared to
death of getting caught.
“Should I check in
here?” I heard an officer’s voice right above
us.
I felt my whole body go still, and
if even for a second, my heart stopped
beating.
Jake quickly clamped his hand over
my mouth to keep me from bursting out into
sobs.
“Are you kidding me
Roy? Do you really think a teenager could fit in
that? Let’s be a little practical.” Another
officer said sternly.
I felt a wave of relief rush over
me.
“That was close.” Jake
muttered as the police left the room.
“Yeah.” I
admitted. “A little too
close.”
I then realized that we were still
holding hands.
“Uh, sorry.” I blushed,
a little embarrassed, releasing my hand from
his.
“It’s fine Bree,
really.” He smiled innocently.
Suddenly, I felt his hand brush
against my cheek.
“I really missed you
Bree.” He began. “And I’m really
sorr-“
“There you guys are!”
Zoe ripped open the bin’s lid. “I thought
the polic—oh, am I interrupting
something?”
“Oh, uh, no. We
we’re just getting out Jake,
right?”
“Right.” He said,
disappointment filled his voice.
Great timing Zoe, I thought
sarcastically to myself.
“We are never doing something
so stupid again.” Ryan said, as we walked back
towards Jake’s.
“Agreed.” Jaycie said,
shooting an accusing look towards Zoe.
“Well I thought it was
exciting.” She said defensively, crossing her
arms.
“Put your hands up where I
can see them!” A voice screamed from
behind.
“Well, if you thought that
was exciting,” I began.
“Prepare to be

thrilled.”

Chapter 3.
No, snap out of it Bree,
you’re not Jealous of that.
It was just a little kiss, it meant
nothing.
I brushed off what had happened,
and we decided to call it quits on the
game.
“Okay, now we actually have
to do something worth remembering.” Ryan
stated.
“How about we go look around
that abandoned house up the street?” Zoe
suggested.
“That’s just dumb, why
would we do that.” Jaycie snapped.
“Unless of course,
you’re scared.” Zoe folded her
arms, with a smirk on her face.
“I-I’m not
scared.” Jaycie stammered.
There was a long pause between the
two after that.
“Then let’s
go.” Zoe gave a devious smile, leading us out
of the house and down towards the abandoned house on the
corner.
“So, who wants to go
first..” Ryan asked, as we all peered up at the
mysterious looking house.
“I think Zoe should, this was
her idea anyways.” Jaycie said, holding onto Noah
tightly.
Even though I knew she’d
never admit it, she was absolutely terrified right
now.
“Fine.” Zoe said
sternly, beginning to walk up the front
porch.
It creaked as we walked on the
loose floor boards.
“Zoe, why is there police
tape here? Are you sure we should be doing
this?” Noah asked cautiously.
“Yeah it’s safe.”
She said a little unsurely.
We continued walking, until we were
all in the old house.
“I hear a lady died in here,
and no one wanted to live in it after that, so the city
just left it.” Jake said, knowing it would scare the
living crap out of Jaycie.
“Shut up dude, that’s a
load of bullsh//t.” Noah said, trying to calm down
Jaycie, who was on the verge of running
out.
I giggled a little at Jake, who was
walking close to my side.
“Wait guys, what’s
that?” Zoe stopped us.
“ Zoe, stop trying to scare
me. This isn’t funny.” Jaycie told
her.
“No, seriously,
listen.”
We all stood still for a minute,
trying to pick up the sound that Zoe was supposedly
hearing.
“Oh no, those are police
sirens.” I began to panic.
“What are we going to do
guys?!” Jaycie began to cry.
“Hide!” Zoe shrieked,
shoving herself into the corner of a
closet.
We all scattered throughout the
house, trying to find an ideal hiding
spot.
It was like hide and go seek, but
now, it was much, much scarier.
I followed Jake into a large silver
bin, just big enough for the two of us.
I had only been home for a few
hours, I couldn’t get in trouble
