It's more the people who reinforce the idea that girls are supposed to be vapid and void of any intelligence, making the girls feel like they /must/ play dumb, who need to be hit in the face with a brick.

The word god doesn't refer to the Christian God. It refers to a generic god. Stop trying to enforce you religion on everything please.

Enforce my religion on everything? I gave my opinion about ONE thing, something Autocorrect does. Stop trying to start drama, please. I understand not everyone believe in the Christian God, but I do and I'm referring to that one.

Why doesn't it capitalize Harikhrisna? Why doesn't it capitalize Trimurti and Tridevi? Why doesn't it capitalize Adi Para Shakti? Just because you think Jesus Christ is your savior doesn't mean he is "the God". There are thousands more. Enlighten yourself.

For one, I think God is Jesus' father. (I was raised believing this, just as you believe in your gods)

That is a very good question! I was referring to one of the many major religions, Christianity.
Most likely due to the fact that there are so many of them, and so many religions.

Now, I will enlighten myself, that's a good idea! So, what religion are you? And do you guys have a book similar to a bible? (Dumb question but hey the more I learn, the better!)

Because the word 'god' isn't referring to the one Christian deity God.
Look it up - the word 'god' is defined as "a superhuman being or spirit worshipped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity."
Besides, it's not a proper noun.
I mean, the word 'goddess' is the exact same, but it's not capitalised either.

Excuse me, but, as far as I know, you can "choose" to be Hindu. There is no conversion process to Hinduism. You can only be born into it. You can visit temples as much as you want and go for Pujas but, you can't convert to Hinduism.

As a Hindu, I can tell you that being a one has a lot more than practicing it.
There is no recognized ritual of conversion unlike in other religions like Islam and Christianity. You're either born a Hindu, or you live without it.

reply 0
Primadonna* 9 years ago on quote #6979596

To be one of the religion, you need to have a caste. Do you? How do you "practice" it? Secondly, there's nothing to "follow"
Most Hindus throughout the ages have had a strict practice of work i worship aside from sending their children to learn bhajans and shlokhas. Since the religion states that there is no converting to it, how can you call yourself a Hindu?
reply 0
SelinTheBean* 9 years ago on quote #6979596

First of all, the caste system was removed (although it's still practiced today) in India in the 40s. Secondly, in Hinduism there are thousands of gods to worship. It's the choice of worshipper who they chose to worship. Thirdly, Hinduism and Buddhism are very inclusive religions. You don't have to be born into it. It's a DECISION you can make. Thirdly, there are so many rituals that you can do in Hinduism. There are several ways to live out your life to achieve moksha. In Buddhism, there aren't really any rituals, because so much emphasis is placed on meditation and following the 8fold Path. Neither of these religions are exclusive. You can choose to be Hindu and/or Buddhist.
reply 0
Primadonna* 9 years ago on quote #6979596

Firstly, I want to say this: anyone can practice the Hindu way of life, but, unless you're born into it, you can't call yourself a Hindu.
Also, the caste system is rampant. You need to state your caste to get into college or school or to get a government job. Untouchability and discrimination on the basis of caste are banned, please don't try to tell me about my culture.
Secondly, I apologise if I came off as rude. I'm just sick and tired of Hinduism being shown as this path to "discovering yourself". I really am. If you want to worship Hindu gods and do Pujas, go ahead, all I'm saying is that it doesn't make you a Hindu. I am extremely tired of white people romanticizing my religion and I would appreciate it if you didn't try tell me Hinduism is inclusive, because its not. I live in a Hindu majority country and we're possibly the least inclusive religion, tbh.

SelinTheBean* 9 years ago on quote #6979596

"Hinduism is often said to be the most tolerant, inclusive religion." It most definitely is inclusive. (http://www.columbiaseminary.org/coffeetalk/147.html)
And all religions are essentially "paths to discovering yourself." Each religion attempts to answer questions that come up with things like "Ultimate Reality."
And, you are incredibly ignorant of your own faith. You must be born into the caste system, but anyone who follows the Hindu way of life can be considered a Hindu. And when you state that worshiping Hindu gods and doing Pujas doesn't make a Hindu, you basically mean that anyone that practices any other types of religion are not members of that specific faith. So if a person is born into a Jewish family and makes the decision to convert to Christianity, then he or she is not a Christian according to what you believe. And no one's "romanticizing your religion." It's everyone's individual choice to choose what they believe in. Stop thinking you're so high and mighty just because you're of a different religion. Okay? Okay.

Primadonna* 9 years ago on quote #6979596

Are you a Hindu? Do you live around Hindus? Have you seen movies with people "finding themselves" again with yoga and collecting advice from "floating babas". Christianity, Judaism and Islam all have ways of conversion. Hinduism doesn't. You can practice it all you want, go ahead. But, it doesn't make you a Hindu. I live in India, every third person is a Hindu here, how can I act high and mighty about it? I'm not ignorant, you are. You think reading a couple of articles makes you an expert?
If so, I should be an expert on Astrophysics, neuroscience and archaeology.

It's due to the fact not everyone is talking about one god. It's an unusual word in the fact that if you are talking about the alleged one supreme God, you capitalise it to show that. But you may be talking about false gods in which case you wouldn't capitalise it.
You could always just edit your settings so it automatically capitalises the word god if you like.
