all-star cheerleading
Has anyone ever taken the chance to ask a cheerleader why...why
we spend hours and hours at the gym instead of
watching your favorite t.v. shows. Girls don’t go to cheerleading
because it’s fun. Why beat up your body until you have
bruises all over, why yank your leg past your
head so hard you can barely walk the next day. Ask any
cheerleader, most of them will tell you they hate it, but their
life wouldn’t be anything without it. Why listen to a billion
different songs just to find that perfect piece of music, why
travel long distances, sleep all of 3 hours
before you compete It’s what they live for. Why
go to the gym every day when its bright and sunny instead of
going to the beach, why pressure yourself to remember a million
moves and be expected to be perfect every time you perform, why
put on a gazzilion pounds of hairspray even
though it destroys you hair. They live for the undefined amount
of bruises, tape, calluses, sit-ups &;
practices. Why do they seem so quiet at school and yet
have enough presence to light up a stage or be crazy, why do they
seem to care so much about such small details. They live for
practicing the routine countless times. For
anyone who isn’t a cheerleader, its hard to comprehend. They live
for certain types of music that pretty much no one else
understands. To try and explain anything about competition or
cheering in general is like talking to a redneck in Chinese. They
live for walking past another team and seeing the fear in
their eyes. They don’t have the memories of hanging out
with friends in hotel rooms, or practicing with
the best, or going places you never thought you would get to go,
or being on stage with everyone’s eyes on you.
They live for the competition, the
friends, the practices, the
memories, the pain, and the
strangers who became a family. For all those who
are cheeerleaders, cherish the good with the bad... do it because
you love to and it makes you happy, not because you need to prove
yourself to anyone, because few people can understand a
cheerleader... we do all of these things because its our lives
and we enjoy it, we cheer because we love. Even
with the rush of nervousness, they live for it. It’s who they
are. It’s who I am.
We stand together in support of our team united, committed, one
motive one dream. We don’t use a bat, a ball, or a net, just
determination, and muscle, endurance, and sweat. So don’t
call us ditzy, and don’t call us cute, lose the misconceptions,
seek out the truth.
Our spirit is endless, our hearts filled with pride, please look
past the stereotype and see the athlete inside.
