Unhappily Ever After
Chapter 1
It was already noon when I woke up. I sighed, pulled my hair back and sighed again. It was the last day of summer, and I was dreading going back to school. I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. Mom wasn't there. Mom isn't here alot anymore. I made myself cornflakes and sat down at the table. It wasn't cleaned for days. It still had the sticky stain from the time I spilled my orange juice. I sighed, yet again, and started eating.
I didn't know what to do for the rest of the day. I'm not the kind of girl who goes out shopping with her friends for designer jeans. I kept to myself most of the time, but know that school was starting I had to be more social. I sat there for a while, but then I got up and put the bowl into the dishwasher. I went into the living room and switched on the TV.
I turned it off quick. It was too loud for my ears, mostly because the house was so empty. I got up and went upstairs to have a little 'me' time.
I guess I should tell you more about myself. I'm Ellen, 14 years old, living with my mother. Well. It's mostly me recently.
You see, my dad died when I was 9. Mom was lovely then. She worked, I went to school, had friends, and we were happy.
But then she changed. I was doing worse and worse at school. Mom started drinking and staying out late. My friends left me. I wasn't happy. Anymore.
But it wasn't only Mom's fault.
