Popularity over
friendship?
Chapter 2-
I walked out the door to see Jacob, leaning against his car. The
player, the heartbreaker of all time, my ex-best friend Jacob
Vasquez. “Yo, morning Vee, where’s Ami?” he said
smoothly, giving me a grin. “You just missed her, she’s
with Max and his gang” I said.
Everyone knew that Jacob has dated mostly everyone in the school
and that Ami was just a ‘toy’. But from what I heard,
he could get really protective when it comes to me. Or so
I’ve been told. I mean, at one time in life we were best
friend but then he got all popular, but he still finds a way to
talk to me or a way to ‘protect me’.
“Yo high school sweetheart!”
I turned slightly, realizing my nickname to come face to face with
the meanest and nastiest girl in the school; Vera Kawamura and her
followers. We had just started high school. Her followers were
smirking at me while she was glaring at me. “I heard that
Jacob broke up with me because he has a major league crush on the
sweetheart” she snarls.
“Don’t make me laugh, there’s no way he would
have a crush on me out of all people” I snapped. She made a
hissing sound and put her hands in a fist; ready to hit me. I
closed my eyes. I waited, and waited, it never came.
I opened my eyes to see the Vera Kawamura on the floor and Jacob
holding his hands out. He grinned, “Well?”
I heard he only dated Ami so he could see me more often. Yeah,
right. Sure he protected me and all, but I’m sure it was
because he felt sorry for me or something. “Well hop in
I’ll drive you” I sighed. “How do I know that you
want do anything to me?” I said, half serious, half jokingly.
“Yeah I’ll kill you and then threw you in
river.”
I stuck my tongue at him and stepped into his car. ‘At least
there’s nothing out of the ordinary in his car’ I
thought. “So how are you and my sister?” I said.
“You know nothing out of the ordinary. I think I might break
up with her later” he said in a matter-of-fact voice.
“Again? Why?” I said curiously. I mean, sure they dated
on and off but he never told anyone out loud, it was like a
surprise breakup. He shrugs like it was no big deal. “Well
one, this relationship isn’t going anywhere at all,” I
rolled my eyes; ‘You’re telling me?’
“Second, my mom wants me to actually date someone I’m
actually interest in” he rolled his eyes.
“Like?”
He sighs and said, “You’re not going to believe it, but
my mom said-“He was interrupted when there was a knock on his
car window. I jumped and turned to see my best friend Kelly Gomez
and my best guy friend, Locke L.City (L. stands for Leonardo and no
one really knows what L stands for beside Kelly and me because he
said he didn’t like it).
“Well here’s your bud,” he unlock the car for me.
“Hey Vee! I thought I saw you! And Mr. Player” she
glared at Jacob hatefully. She pulled me out of the car as Locke
said to him, “Jacob I saw your girl making out with Max over
there” he said a little harshly.
Jacob rolled his eyes. “Well see you later Vee” with
that said he speed down the streets. Kelly made a growling sound at
him which I couldn’t blame her for. Like I said Jacob dated
99% of the school (counting me out) and her in.
Kelly and Locke know that Jacob and I use to be friends but they
didn’t approve that he stills hang around me.
“Well since he’s gone, I have to tell you what happened
with Ami and Max” Kelly said (almost happily). “Um,
sure” I giggled though I really wanted to know what
Jacob’s mom said he should date.
‘Maybe I should ask her later since we do live a block away
from each other and my mom and his mom are best friends’ I
thought.
