Traveling Soldier
Chapter
20
Sohpie's
POV
After about 15 minutes of trying on bathing
suits I decided on a cherry print bikini with a gray sweatshirt,
shorts, and cherry sandals.
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=47248233
"How should I-"
"Do you think Kyle missed me?" Anne interrupted my
question, and her question surprised me.
"I'm sure he did. You guys were close before he left.
You were like brother and sister."
"I don't mean as like brother and sister." I knew
where Anne was going with this.
"I'm not sure Annie. But we have all year to find
out." I put my arm around her. I didn't know much about
my brother anymore, let alone who he liked.
I stood up and looked at the clock. 3:50. Crap! I ran into the
bathroom to do my hair and makeup. I applied waterproof mascara
and braided my hair, even though it would get ruined.
Anne came into the bathroom, applied the same mascara and curled
her hair before putting it into a ponytail.
"Kyle always said he liked ponytails.." She sighed and
I felt bad for her.
"Just rebuild your relationship. I don't really know
what's going on in Kyle's mind about you, but trust me,
it'll be okay."
I looked at the clock once again. 4:03. I slipped on my sandals
and said good bye to Anne.
As I ran down the stairs I heard a knock at the door. Charlie.
Before I got to the front door Cindy was already there opening
it.
"You must be Charlie. Come on in, Sophie will be right
down." She said, opening the door further for him to
enter.
"No, Sophie is right here." I said pushing Cindy out of
the way and pushing Charlie out the door.
"Have fun, and be safe!" Cindy called as I tugged on
Charlie's hand to get him to move to the car faster.
"Those two things don't go together!" I called
back.
When me and Charlie were both in the car and buckled he
laughed.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." He looked at me and smiled, and I got
butterflies. The way he smiled at me made my heart melt. He was
so beautiful.
I pulled him in for a kiss, and in the middle of it he laughed. I
pulled away laughing, "What?"
"You ready to go have some fun?" He winked at me and
pulled out of my driveway.
"As long as I'm with you." I wrapped my hand in
his, and he sped off down the road to the
beach.

Sohpie's
POV
"I'm surprised you remember my
nick-name." Anne said.
Kyle wiped the tear from her eye, "Of course I
remember." When me and Anne were little, Kyle would tormet
us, and chase us around the yard with snakes and bugs, spray us
with water guns, toss us in the pool; stuff any older brother
would do. But one thing that wasn't to tormet us, was he
would always make Anne a peanut butter sandwich. Kyle could never
get the jelly jar open as a kid, so he just made her a peanut
butter sandwich. I never understood why he called her that, but
it's just what he did.
"You look great." he held
her hand, and she spun around.
She giggled, and her face turned red, "Thank you. So do
you."
"Since Sophie is leaving with her new boy, do you girls want
me to give you a ride to the beach?" Kyle looked at Rachel,
then Anne.
"I'm picking up Rob. Sorry, thanks though." Rachel
said, "Which reminds me, I should go, so I can finish
getting ready. Bye guys."
Rachel stood up, hugged me, Anne, then Kyle and left.
"Do you want a ride?" Anne smiled and looked down.
"Sure."
"Alright. I'm going to go leave you two girls to do
whatever it is girls do. We'll leave at 4:30."
"Okay." Anne said.
Kyle left and I looked at Anne, "What was that about..
peanut butter?" I shoved her lightly and
winked.
"Shut up!" She laughed.
"Okay, okay."
We went back to picking out an outfit for me, laughing and
talking.
Anne seemed happy though, happier than she was. And I knew it was
Kyle.

Charlie's
POV
"Charlie. Get. Up."
I groaned, rolled over and opened my eyes.
"Al?" I sat up, she never went into my room. "You
okay?"
"Mom wants you downstairs."
"Oh, okay." I got up and pulled on a tee-shirt before
going downstairs.
My mom sat at the dining room table. Bent over a pile of letters,
pictures, and cards.
"Good morning Mom. What are those?" I looked over her
shoulder at the pile. They were all about my father.
"They're letters and photos of your father and for you
father. To wish him a happy birthday, and to apologize
for.." Her voice stopped, so I finished for her.
"For our loss." She nodded and put a hand over her
mouth. I could tell she was trying not to cry.
"We're going to visit his grave tonight. With some of
the troops. We're leaving at 4. Dress nice." She got up
and walked out of the room.
Tonight was the party though. I was supposed to pick Sophie up at
4.
"Wait, Mom!" I walked after her and she turned around.
"I have a party at 4. With friends."
"I'm afraid you'll have to cancel."
I got mad, I didn't want to cancel. I wanted to meet Rachel
and Anne, and hang out with Rob and Sophie.
"I'm new at this school, I need to make new friends. Get
to know people."
She sighed. "And you can. Just not tonight
sweetie."
"Yes. Tonight. It was already planned, and I'm
going."
"Charles Adam Davidson. You aren't going. You're
going to cancel." Mom was getting mad at me, and I was
getting mad too.
"No. Mom. I'm not cancelling. Every Saturday since he
died we went to his grave. It was nice at first but he's gone
now Mom! He's just gone, and we have to move on with our
lives. I love him, and I miss him. He's my father! But I
moved on, so did Ally. Now it's your turn. I'm not going
to his grave tonight. I'm moving on."
With that I ran up the stairs and into the shower.
I washed away the conversation.
Sophie's POV
"Should I wear this one?" Rachel held up a turquoise
bikini, with cheetah print on the middle and side.
"Definitely." Anne nodded.
Rachel, Anne and I decided to get together and pick out our
outfits before Charlie picked me up.
"I'm gonna go change. Be right back."
Rachel ran off to go put her bathing suit and clothes on.
"What are you going to wear Anne? Need help picking it
out."
"It's in my bag. I'll change after Rachel." She
paused. "What's going on with you and Charlie? Are you
two, dating?"
I blushed, "Yeah. I guess we are. He's amazing. It's
only been a short time, but, we just clicked. You know?"
"I'm so glad. You two are so cute. And I wish I
knew."
I was about to ask her what she meant when Rachel came out of the
bathroom. She was wearing her bathing suit, jean shorts, and a
gray sweatshirt with cheetah print flats.
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=45963633
"I'm going to go change now."
Anne got up, grabbed her bag, and went into the bathroom.
"You look adorable Rach." I said before the silence got
awkward.
"Thanks. You think Rob will think so? I wanted to look
better, but not overdue-"
"Rob will think you look beautiful no matter what.
Chill."
It got quiet, so I asked "When is Rob going?"
I didn't have to clarify the question. She knew what I
meant.
"After graduation. Four days after." She looked down,
but then looked up again and smiled. "We have all year
together to make the best of it."
Leave it to Rachel to make things positive.
Anne came out then, wearing light wash jean shorts, a pink
cropped sweatshirt, pink floral sneakers, and a floral bikini
underneath.
http://www.polyvore.com/anne/set?id=45964324
"Damn. Looking good delicate." Anne
laughed at Rachel's comment. Then Kyle walked in the room,
and Anne stopped laughing.
"Hey Rachel." he smiled, and she got up and hugged
him.
"Hey Kyle. It's so good to see you again."
Rachel only knew Kyle for about two years before he left. But
they knew each other well enough.
Then Kyle looked over at Anne, "Hey peanut butter."
Anne's face lit up, and as she hugged him, a tear ran down
her face.

Sophie's
POV
It was already pitch black outside, so I
sticked to the main roads with street lights. After about a half
hour of walking I turned onto a dark street and walked. I started
to hear footsteps behind me, so I turned around.
No one was there and I laughed at myself for being so paranoid. I
turned back around and kept walking. I wasn't ready to go
home, surely my dad would just yell at me for walking out. Then
he'd complain about Cindy, then Cindy would-
*snap.*
I spun around quickly as I heard a twig behind me snap. I
didn't see anyone so I turned around and began to walk
quickly to get back onto a main road. I heard footsteps, as I
started to jog. The footsteps became louder and faster and
closer. My jog turned into a run, then a sprint.
I kept running until I fell. I scrambled to get up, and when I
did, a hand clamped over my mouth. I tried to screamed but it was
muffled. The hand was removed and I took a breath, before I could
scream again I felt a pair of lips against mine.
I knew these lips. They were the lips from my first kiss.
Charlie's lips.
The kiss ended and I opened my eyes.
"Hi there." He smirked.
I began to smile, when my face turned mad. I started hitting his
arm.
"How could you scare me like that?" I yelled.
He grabbed my hands and held them close to his chest.
"I'm sorry Sophie. I didn't mean to scare you. I
just meant to.. surprise, really."
His eyes were longing and I grinned.
"I know. It's okay."
"Good. So, why are you walking on random streets in the
middle of the night?"
"Oh you know. Just needed some fresh air." I didn't
feel like getting into the fight with my dad.
"Want me to walk you home?" He asked.
"Sure, I'd like that."
We started walking home and soon we were talking. Not about
anything in particular. Just talking. Random stuff. Jokes,
stories, anything and everything.
I looked up from Charlie's eyes and I realized we were home.
It had only been 3 days since I met Charlie but I was so glad he
was mine.
"I'll see you tomorrow." He leaned down to kiss me,
but my front door swung open and Cindy was standing there.
"See yah Charlie."
I walked up the steps, and into my house, pushing past Cindy.
"Wait a second there Sophie."
"No."
"I said wait!" She grabbed my wrist and I quickly
pulled away.
"And I said no."

Sophie's
POV
When I got home, Rob and Rachel were gone, and
Kyle was laying on the couch.
"Hey Soph." He grinned. "Why you all
smiles?"
He sat up and patted the empty space next to him for me to sit
down.
"Charlie." I said.
"Who is this Charlie person? I need details." He
asked.
I went into the detail of how I became so close to him, in the
past three days. Kyle sat there and listened, he seemed clearly
interested and I didn't exactly know why. I know we
haven't been able to share stuff like this is three years,
but a relationship isn't something Kyle would care about in
my life.
"Dang. My little sister is in a relationship before I got to
be." He smirked, but I could see in his eyes that he was
hurt. And it hit me.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"For what?"
"You haven't been able to feel this way, about anyone.
Because you haven't been able to meet anyone."
I think Kyle was surprised I knew that, but he just nodded.
"You should probably go to bed kiddo. I was told about the
party your having tomorrow. Better rest up."
"Oh yeah! I completely forgot about that. Do you want to
come Kyle?" I wanted to spend more time with him, and I
hoped he'd say yes.
"Sure, why not."
I got up, hugged him good night and went upstairs.
I got out my laptop and checked my Facebook. 3 new
messages.

"You're such a-"
"Who's a what?" My father walked in the room and I
quickly shut my laptop and pushed it away.
"Nothing dad." I was irritated by him, for picking such
an awful woman as a replacement for Mom.
"Why did you say to Cindy that she does not care about this
family?"
I groaned.
"I'm serious young lady. Why did you say it? ...
Why?"
"Because it's true!" I snapped at him. "You
know it is."
"All I know is I love her, and she loves me, you, and Kyle
very much."
I didn't feel like talking about Cindy anymore, she
wasn't worth my time, so I got up and walked out of my
room.
"Where are you going?" My dad called out from the
doorway.
"Away from you and Cindy." I called back.
I quickly pulled on a pair of flip flops and headed out the
door.
I didn't know where to go.
So I just walked.
And walked.
And walked...

Charlie's
POV
I loved the way Sophie laughed. The way she
threw her head back, and the sound. It was beautiful. She was
beautiful, and I wanted her to know that.
"You are beautiful Sophie." The words escaped my lips
before I could stop them.
She stopped laughing and looked at me. Her face solemn.
"Sorry." I mumbled, and looked at my feet.
"Thank you," she said. "No one, besides my family,
has ever told me that."
I looked up at her and knew she was serious.
"Well you're very welcome."
I knew this was a good time, so I leaned down to kiss her. I was
interrupted by an annoying, high pitched, squeaky voice. I turned
around and Candy was standing there with her hands crossed over
her chest.
"What do you think you two are doing?"
"Nothing." I heard Sophie whisper, now standing beside
me.
"It better be nothing Sophie. Remember what I told you.
Besides, Charlie's mine." She snarled.
"What?" I said taken aback. "I am most certainly
not yours Candy. I am Sophie's."
I grabbed Sophie's hand, turned around and walked away.
Pulling her along beside me.
I didn't let go till we got back to my car. I looked at her,
and couldn't read her expression.
"Sophie I'm-"
My sentence was cut off when Sophie's lips came in contact
with mine. It was a soft gentle kiss.
"You're mine." She said when we broke apart.
I nodded. "I'm yours."
Well, Charlie and Sophie are
finally together!

Sophie's
POV
"Sophie. Hey." Rob stood outside my
door, with his hands in his pockets and his eyes on the
floor.
"Hey Rob. Come in." I opened the door for him to come
inside and he walked in and into the living room.
"Want anything? Food, drink?" I asked.
"No, no. Just a talk." His voice was barely
audible.
I sat down in a chair across from him, "What's up
bud?"
"I told Rachel about Australia."
"Well, that's good." I said, he didn't move,
"isn't it?"
"We broke up." The words left his mouth and I was so
surprised. They'd been together since eighth grade.
"What? Rob, are you- I'm so so sorry."
I got up to hug him, when I heard another knock at the door.
"I'll be right back."
I opened the door and Rachel was there, "Can I come
in?"
"Oh, uhm sure." I said, I didn't know what to
do.
She walked into the living room, and saw Rob. He looked up at
her, and they both started crying.
I stood there awkwardly while they hugged, and Rob began
apologizing, and Rachel began saying she loved him.
I heard another knock at the door and went to get it. Who
now?
"Hello?" I opened the door and it was Charlie.
"Hey, nice PJ's." My face turned bright red as I
looked down and remembered I was still wearing my pajamas from my
nap.
"Hah, thanks. So, what's up?"
"Wanna go somewhere?" He asked.
"Yeah, sounds good. Let me get clothes on, I'll be right
back."
I ran upstairs, and changed into white shorts, a mickey mouse
tee, and a pair of red converse.
I brushed my hair out, and put it in a perfect messy bun this
time and ran downstairs.
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=44682254
"Ready?" He asked.
"One sec." I walked into the living room, "uhm,
guys."
Rachel and Rob looked up at me.
"I'm going out, just leave in the next half hour.
Okay?"
They nodded and continued their conversation and I walked back
out to the front door.
"Ready." I said.
"Good."
We walked out the door and into his jeep.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"To get an ice-cream on the boardwalk."
He looked at me and smiled. I smiled back.
Sorry I haven't updated in
forever!
School, homework, drama, depression.
I couldn't think of any new chapters, let alone have time to
write them the past week.
I'm sorry!

Sophie's
POV
Half way home from the hospital a car pulled
up beside me, I looked over and it was Charlie. He rolled down
the window.
"Want a ride? Hop in."
"Thanks." I opened the passenger door and got in.
"No problem." He smiled, turned on the radio, and put
in a CD.
Asking Alexandria filled the car. I hated their music, and I
must've made a face, because Charlie turned it off.
"You can listen to it."
"No, it's okay. What do you want to listen to?"
I didn't really like music. Weird, for a teenager, but I
wasn't into it all that much. I only listened to it when I
was extrememly bored.
"Nothing, actually."
"Okay, that's fine." I could feel his eyes on me,
then the road, then on me and I bent my head down, blushing.
"How was your visit with Kyle?" He suddenly asked.
"Good. He's getting out today."
"Great," he pulled into my driveway "well here we
are, Anders residence."
"Thanks again." I got out of the car and before I shut
the door Charlie reminded me,
"I'll pick you up tomorrow at five. Sound
good?"
I forgot about my party with Rob, Anne, and Rachel on the beach
tomorrow.
"Sounds great." I smiled and walked up the front steps
and opened the door.
Cindy greeted me at the front door coldly, "Where have you
been?"
"Hospital, with Kyle." I pushed past her.
"For three hours?"
"I had to walk there from school, I spent time with him for
two hours, and then I got a ride home. I'm sorry it was
longer than you expected."
"You should be, next time call." She was trying to be a
mother to me, and it wasn't working.
"Don't act like you worried about me. You don't care
about this family!" I ran up the stairs and into my
room.
About an hour later I was done with my homework, and in the mood
for a nap.
I changed into some plaid, gray pajama shorts nad a baggy blue
sweatshirt and pulled my hair back in a messy
bun
http://www.polyvore.com/sophie/set?id=44245705
I climbed into bed.
Suddenly I woke up, to the sound of someone knocking on my
door.
I laid in bed, knowing Cindy would get it. When the knocking
continued and no one answered, I got out of bed and went
downstairs.
I opened the door a crack,
"Hello?"
Traveling Soldier
Chapter

Sophie's
POV
Kyle, Kyle, Kyle, Kyle, Kyle.
He was all that went through my mind as I walked to the hospital
after school ended.
When I finally got to the hospital I ran up to the front desk to
check in and get his room number.
After
I got the room, I half walked half ran to his room. When I
reached it I paused, and took a deep breath. I didn't know
what to expect, so I prepared for the worst.
I opened the door and Kyle shot his head in my direction. He saw
me and smiled, "Hey sissy."
I walked over to him and sat in the chair beside the bed.
"Hey."
"I'm sorry about this, not the way to spend the first
day I get home."
"Don't be sorry. Ever, Kyle. This is out of your
control, and it's not fair. Don't worry we-"
"You need to calm down and stop worrying." He took my
hand. "Doctor says I just was moving too quickly. I'll
be out by the end of the day."
I sighed a sigh of relief. Thank God.
I spent the next two hours talking to Kyle, catching him up on
the past three years of my life. I showed him pictures of my
junior prom, and my field trip to Spain in tenth grade.
"It's past four Sophie, you should probably get home
now."
"Okay. I guess you're right." I got up and hugged
him.
"See you tonight." He promised.
I nodded to him and smiled.
I walked out of the hospital and was greeted by a bleach blonde
snob.
"What's going on with you and Charlie?" She
accused.
"Nothing." I walked by her, and started heading
home.
She grabbed my arm and turned me around. "It better be
nothing." She poked me in the chest so hard I could tell it
would bruise.
"Why should you care anyway? You have your precious, dropout
boyfriend Chris. Or did you forget?" She needed to leave me
and Charlie alone.
"Just make sure that you and Charlie are nothing, and stay
nothing. Got it?"
"Or what?" I dared to ask.
"I'm not sure you want to know." She flipped her
hair over her shoulder and walked away.
I hope you guys like it.

Chapter

Sophie's
POV
"You're moving?" I asked,
shocked.
Rob was moving. Not to a different town, but to a different
country.
"Yeah.... Australia." He looked down at his hands, and
shifted his weight on his foot.
Rob was my best friend since third grade, and I began to tear up.
I didn't want to lose someone who I was so close to, for so
long. Then it hit me.
"Rachel!" I blurted out.
He just nodded.
"When are you going to.....?" I didn't need to
finish, nor did I want to.
"I don't know," his eyes never left his hands.
"I love her. I don't want to leave her, I want to stay
here, in California. With you. With Anne. With Charlie. With my
school. With Rachel!" He began to cry a little, and I broke
down too. I hugged him, not knowing what to say.
"Do you want me to help you tell her?" I asked, rubbing
his back.
"Just help me find out what to say, I want to do it
alone." His eyes locked on mine, and I felt terrible for
him. To have to leave his whole life, and start over in a
completely different country. I nodded to him, and he walked away
quickly.
I felt a sort of emptiness, Rob couldn't leave.
"Australia." I whispered.
Rob's POV
I
turned a corner on my way to the bathroom, wiping a tear from my
eye.
How could I cry in front of Sophie? Sure, I'm upset, but man
up.
My pep talks to myself didn't work like they did in football.
I started jogging to get to the bathroom as quickly as I could
when I ran into Rachel.
She smiled, and my heart sank.
"Hey boo." She planted a kiss on my lips, and I wrapped
her in my arms tightly, never wanting to let go.
"Ow." She giggled, gently pushing my arms off her.
She looked into my eyes, and her look became worried. "Hey,
are you okay?"
"Perfectly fine." I lied.
She gave me a questioning look, before wiping it away with a
smile. "Okay, I have to go. Bye Rob."
She walked past me, and I sighed.
I love you Rachel.
Sorry guys! I've been so busy!
I know Rob and Rachel aren't the main focus of this story,
trust me, they won't be.
It's leading up to something!
I promise, you'll love it!
