Chapter
3
The first day of school went by
quick. We were basically introduced to our teachers and showed
around the school. We got our lockers and sceduals. Jen and her
new friend Cristi met me outside when school was dismissed. Jen
introduced me to Cristi, then Marissa picked us up and drove us
home.
"I have to run some errands, so you guys be good. When I
come back, we'll go out for ice cream and pick Parker up at
his house, then I'll drop Cristi off at home." Marissa
said.
We all ran in the house and Cristi and Jen ran down the basement.
I volunteered to stay upstairs and wait for Lucy to get home from
school. I made myself a shirley temple and heard a car honk from
the front of the house. I waved at Lucy's friend's mother
and she drove away.
"Hey Luce, how was school?" I asked her.
"Ok. I have a lot of homework to do. I'll just go
upstairs. Call me when mom gets home." Lucy ran up the
stairs. She's been acting strange lately. Usually, she was
bubbly and friendly, but latley it seemed like something was
bothering her. I shrugged and poured two more shirley temples for
Jen and Cristi and ran down to the basement.
Soon, Marissa came home and took us out for ice cream as she
promised.
"Lucy and Cristi," She said, "Crouch down in the
back. Parker's dad will get mad if he see's so many girls
in the car."
Lucy and Cristi got on the car floor and giggled.
"What about me?" I asked and laughed.
"You're fine. Oh boy Parker's going to be happy to
see you! He was talking about you non-stop since the last time
you saw him. At least that's what Mrs. Mancillo said."
Marissa told me.
"Awh! She's blushing!" Jen laughed.
Parker ran out of his house and down to the car, "Hey
guys!"
He sat in the second row seat with me. "Hey Parker," I
said.
"Hey Lindsey!" He replied. Lucy and Cristi giggled and
popped up from the third row.
"Hey Luce," Parker said.
"Parker this is Cristi, Cristi, Parker!" Lucy said and
giggled. They smiled at each other.
"Well, who wants some icecream?!" Marissa shouted.

3 weeks later
I sat on the couch in Jen's basement. Since
we were going to the same highschool, I decided that I was going
to spend some week nights over her house. Earlier that day, I put
some clothes for school in her drawers. Luckily, Jen and I were
the same size, so we could share the blue and plaid uniform
skirts and the white and blue polo tee shirts. I threw a pair of
ballet flat shoes into her closet, and some more knee high socks
in her drawers. I was bummed that my school had a uniform, but I
have gotten used to it, since I've gone to a Catholic School
since kindergarten.
I was still upset about John. I oficially ended the
relationshipthe day after I read the text. Let's just say, it
was an ugly break up. Thank goodness he decided against going to
Union Catholic Highschool, or else I would have been stuck with
him for four more years.
"You're funny!" Jen laughed. I looked up at
her.
"That's my couch." She said. We were in her
finished basement. It had 4 couches all across from eachother, 2
on each side. Then there was a couch in another area of the
basement, that everyone knew as the "Make out couch."
So many people's first kisses have been on that couch;
Jen's, mine, Carrie's, Katherine's, Ryan's, even
Parker's.
"Fight me!" I said to her and giggled.
"There are 3 other couches!" She told me.
"Yeah but this one is the best!"
"That's because it's mine!" She laughed. Jen
and I have been friends for as long as I could remember. We met
when her mom almost ran me over when I was 3 years old. It was
out my shore house, and the Italian ice man had just drived down
the street. I ran out after it. The big white Cadilac was a foot
away from me, and the woman driving it was panicking in the front
seat. She got out of the car and spoke to my dad.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" She said.
"No worries," my dad said. They talked for a while
longer and then the woman, Marissa, introduced me to her 4 year
old daughter Jen and her 2 year old daughter Lucielle. She also
had an 8 year old son named Justin. Flash forward 11 years and we
were still so close. Jennifer and I were going into highschool,
Lucy was going into 6th grade, and Justin was going away to
college. I still look back at those great memories we've had
at the Jersey Shore. Like pretending we were waitresses at
Jen's parent's restaurant, and the time where Justin
locked me out of the house and threw water baloons at me from his
bedroom window.
"Hello?" I heard Jen say from the other couch. She had
given up trying to get her couch back, but I knew she'd end
up sleeping there.
"Yeah, we'll be home tomorrow," She said,
"...Okay, I'll invite Carrie too..."
"You guy's broke up!?" She laughed and then said
goodbye and hung up.
"Who was that?" I asked her.
"Parker. Him and Carrie broke up!" Jen told
me.
"He's coming over tomorrow?"
"Yeah he said to make sure you're here too."
Why would Parker want to make sure I was over Jen's? I closed
my eyes and thought about John. I thought about his blue eyes and
his lovey-dovey text messages. I thought of the first time he
told me he loved me and when he first called me his girl. I
drifted off to sleep right after Jen put her iPod on. Drake's
"Sooner or Later" was playing.
".... When the light's don't glow the same way that
they used to, and I finally get a moment to myself. I will
realize you were everything I'm missing, and you'll tell
me you're in love with someone else..."

Chapter
1
"I don't know why he's not texting
me back..." I told my best friend Jennifer."Maybe he lost his
phone, he does that all the time." She told me.
"Can you call him and see if it's off?" I asked Jen. She opened
up her phone and dialed his number.
"This is John Valintino, please leave a message after the beep."
Jen hit the end button. I sighed and ate another handful of
popcorn. It was almost the end of summer. I thought about John,
how I met him on the Seaside Boardwalk, down the shore. How we
texted eachother nonstop. It's almost like one second he was
there, and then the next he just disappeared. He wasn't answering
my texts or calls.
"Cheer up Lindsey," Jen said. I flipped the channel to MTV Jams,
"Drake's Playlist" was on. I closed my eyes and listened to Find
Your Love... "I'm more than just a number, Doubt you'll find
another, So every single summer, I'll be the one that you'll
remember. And I better find your loving, I better find your
heart..."
The next day, Jen and I decided to go back to North Jersey. It
was 3 weeks until out freshman year of highschool.
"Hey, I'm sleeping over your house tonight." I told Jen.
"Okay, Carrie and Parker are coming over too."
"Parker?" I asked
. "Yeah, you'll remember him when you see him. He's dating Carrie
now."
It took us about 2 hours to get home, because of the traffic. The
Garden State Parkway was always backed up on Sundays, filled with
people who were returning from a weekend at the Jersey Shore and
had to go to work the next day. After making so microwave popcorn
and shirley temples, Parker and Carrie showed up at Jen's house.
We all went in the basement. All four of us talked for a while,
then I heard a doorbell.
"Lindsey, that's Katherine, can you go get the door." I ran up
the stairs.
"Hey Lindsey!" Katherine greeted me.
"Hey! I wanted to ask you a question about Parker. He's the one
that goes to Grover Middle School, right?"
"Yep!" Katherine and I went downstairs. I went and sat on the
couch under the deer head that were mounted on the wall. I saw
Carrie's phone sitting on the ledge of the couch, charging.
"One new text from John."
"Hey Car," I yelled. "You, uh, have a text from my boyfriend who
hasn't been answering me. Mind if I open it?"
Carrie was over on the corner couch, cuddling with Parker.
"Go ahead." She said. "Hey Carrie, have you ever been to the
Ketch on LBI?" The text read.
"Nope, why? Is it cool?" I responded.
"Super! Lemme tell you this story. I was there last Tuesday. I
hooked up with these 4 girls; 2 blondes, a brunette, and a red
head. The best part was when I brought them over to the couches.
LOL. Ok, maybe I went a little to far, but don't worry, I'm still
a virgin."
My mouth hung open. This was not the same John I've been dating
for 5 months. I forwarded all of the text messages to me and then
called Jennifer over to look at them.
"Wow," She said. Then Parker came up from behind Jen and read
them.
"That's a dick move." He said. He then pinched Jennifer's hips
and she screamed. He laughed and ran to the other side of the
basement. I was still in shock from the text messages. Just then,
Carrie's phone vibrated. Another text from John. This text
completly erased any hope from me. The thought that maybe this
was a different John vanished after I read this text.
This text said, "But please, Don't tell Lindsey."
