Chapter 44

It had been 2 weeks sense baseball season started and I had barley seen Jacob. He had been playing baseball for hours every day of the week for the past 2 weeks. It was the first night he had off for the past 2 weeks and it was a Friday night and there just happened to be a huge party that night. I pulled up to the party and Christian reminded me to be good until I walked away from him to go and find Jacob. As I was texting him I heard a voice in the crowd scream my name and I turned around to see who it was. It was Jacob. I smiled and walked over to him pecking him on the lips quickly. He smiled, "I missed you." "I've miss you too." I smiled. "I hate not seeing you it sucks." he said. I smiled, "I'm coming to your games tomorrow!" His face lit up in excitement, "Are you?" "Yeah, I can't wait to see you play." I yelled over the blaring music. "Don't be too disappointed if I suck." he smiled. I laughed, "Want to go outside and talk?" I asked. "Yeah, I'm just going to get a drink. You want one?" He asked. "Sure, water?" I said. "Alright." he said. I smiled a thank you and started to make my way to the front door. I walked out onto the front porch and saw no one was there and I walked over and sat down on the steps. I sat there for 2 minutes in silence when I heard a voice behind me say, "Hey." I turned around and smiled at Jacob. He walked over and handed me my water bottle this time I kissed him more passionately and longer than I had before. When I pulled away he was smiling ear to ear. "Come back into my life?" I begged. He looked at the ground than back up at me, "I know. It's going to be hard with baseball season but, I'll make sure I see you as much as possible." "Good," I smiled. He laughed and pecked me on the lips. I smiled, "So, what's it like being with David and Rob 24/7?" He laughed and shook his head, "Those kids are idiots." I laughed, "Are you free Sunday?" He shook his head in disappointment, "I have practice." "Ugh, you loser!" I joked. He laughed and kissed me. "I miss you." I complained. "Stop, I miss you too. I'll hang out with you in between games tomorrow." He promised. "Yay!" I smiled. He laughed and kissed me again. The next day my mom dropped me off at the park and I ran over to the field Jacob was playing at. I looked in the dugout and he was standing there talking to one of his teammates. I ran over to the side of the dugout and looked through the fence at my boyfriend. He didn't turn around so I yelled, "Jake!'" He turned around and smiled when he saw me. "Hey, babe." He said kissing me through the fence. "Hi," I said biting my lip. "You look cute in your uniform." I added. He laughed, "Thank you. And you look beautiful as always today." I smiled at him, "Good luck today, you better win for me." He smiled and was about to say something when his coach interrupted him, "Daniels stopping flirting and get over here!" I laughed. "Sorry," he smiled apologetically. "Don't be. WIn." I said. He laughed, "Okay, I will." I kissed him. "Good luck, I love you." I said. "Thanks, I love you too. " he kissed me one more time and then ran out onto the field. Jacob won his first game and he got 2 runs. He walked off the field and I smiled at him. "Good job," I smiled. "Thank you," he said looking around to make sure his parents weren't looking before kissing me. "Get it in, Daniels!" One of the other players laughed. Some of the others players laughed and I looked down and bit my lip on embarrassment. Jacob smiled and grabbed my hand and we walked over to his parents. "Hey, good job!" They all said. "Thanks," Jacob smiled. "You guys want to grab lunch?" Jacob's dad asked. We all smiled and went to the cars to go for lunch.

I walked up to my locker the next morning and Jacob was standing there with a single rose in hand, staring directly at me. I looked at him curious, "Jake?" He looked at the ground then back up at me, "Can I have a hug?" I looked up at him still confused and saw the sadness in his eyes, "Of course," I smiled. He smiled and he hugged me. It wasn't one of those short 2 second hugs it was a long hug probably at least a minute. He rested his chin on the top of my head and we just stood there, our arms around each other. We finally let go and I smiled at him. "This is for you," he half smiled handed me the rose. "For?" I asked. "For being you." He blushed. I laughed, "Thank you, Jake. It means a lot." He shrugged. It got quiet for a few seconds and then finally Jacob blurted out, "I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry." "What?" I said. "I'm so sorry. I was stupid and selfish- I can't lose you Taylor, I am so, so sorry." he said. I looked at the ground then back at him not sure what to say. I sighed, "Jake-" "If you need time to think, I can wait." he said. "Yeah, I'll let you know." I smiled. "Great." he smiled. I nodded at him and he walked away. I started to open my locker still processing what had just happened and I was still processing it throughout the rest of the day. When I looked into Jacob's eyes that morning I saw that he was hurt and I saw that he was just truly sorry but, did he trust me? He claims that he does but, what if he doesn't? What if he just gets up and leaves again? I walked into History class for third period. Mr. Lutin got to the front of the class and everyone went silent. "Do you think the world and life are fair?" he asked. No one raised their hands. "Guys, c'mon is life fair? Is this world a fair place?" No one said anything. "Jacob is this place fair?" Mr. Lutin asked. Jacob sat up a little straighter," No, not at all." "What makes you say that?" Mr. Lutin asked. "In war when a soldier dies and their mother doesn't even get the chance to say goodbye. Or when a mother is expecting twins and only one of the babies live. Or when you lose something you never thought you'd lose. When a kid dies from being hit by a car or someone is diagnosed with cancer. When you live in the projects or you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or when you make a mistake and can't take it back." Jacob said looking at me at the last second. "That's true. What else do you guys think?" Rachel raised her hand. "Rachel?" Mr. Lutin said. "I think life's fair because, I think everything works out in the end." Rachel said. I raised my hand. "Taylor?" "I don't think life is fair. I think that unfair things happen to good people. Good people die and evil people live. Things happen to people and it's always the question 'Why them?' There are so many unfair aspects of life there's love, money, death I just think life is one of the most unfair things out there." "That's very true." "Now how many of you believe in no regrets that people can think they never made a mistake." Mr. Lutin asked. Rachel was the only one to raise her hand. "Rachel, you don't believe in regret?" he asked, "Well, just because something was a mistake doesn't mean it's a regret." "Alright now who here doesn't believe in 'no regrets'" Everyone other than Rachel raised their hands. "Why?" Mr. Lutin asked. Jacob's hand was one of the only to stay up considering we have a shy class. Mr. Lutin pointed at Jacob. "I don't think no regrets is possible at the end we're all going to have regrets stuff like maybe you aren't happy with the life you lived. Hurting someone you love is and will always be a huge regret even if you only hurt them little. Hurting someone you care about tares you up inside and everyone hurts someone they love so I don't think it's possible to not have any regrets. We all mess up and make mistakes." For the next 40 minutes we discussed our life was unfair for African American's in the 1960's then were dismissed. Jacob walked out of class without looking at me, "Jake!" I yelled down the hallway. He stopped and turned around. I kissed him. He laughed at me, "So, can I take that as a 'I forgive you'?" "Yes." I said kissing him. "Will you be my girlfriend, again?" he asked. I laughed, "Of course." He smiled and we walked down the hall holding hands.

Jacob's Point Of View

I walked into school wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt and my glasses not caring what people thought. Collin walked up to me, "Did you and Taylor break up?" "Yeah," I said walking away. I walked into Mr.Lutin's class. "Mr.Lutin?" I said. "Mr. Daniels?" he laughed. I smiled for the first time sense Friday night," Can I ask you a favor?" "Yeah? What's up?" he said. "I know you said you wouldn't just because it's easier but, is there any chance you'd be willing to move my seat?" I asked nervously. "Move your seat?" he asked. "Yeah," I nodded. He looked shocked, "I thought you and Taylor were-" "We were but, things kind of went downhill this weekend and I messed everything up and I won't be able to sit next to her without wanting to punch myself for being a jerk. I just can't sit next to her, you know?" I said. "Yeah, I know what you mean. And, I'll move your seat- don't worry about it." he smiled. "Thanks" I said. "Jacob?" Mr. Lutin said. "Yeah?" I asked. "You wanna talk about it?" he asked. I sighed, "Sure?" I said. I sat down at a desk. "What happened?" he asked. "We went to the mall and we ran into these kids Nick and Billy. And she was ecstatic to see them-especially Nick. Naturally, I was a little jealous so, I asked Seth about it. Seth told me that Nick and Taylor went out for over 2 years straight until Nick moved to Florida. Billy is Nick's best friend. So the whole night all of them thought I didn't know but, I just felt like Taylor and Nick weren't over. So, I confronted Taylor about it and we got in a fight and just broke up." I sighed. "That's rough. Have you talked to her?" he asked. "No, I have no clue what I'm supposed to say. 'Hey, I made a mistake breaking your heart. Take me back?' I'd sound like a huge jerk. " I said. He sighed, "Jacob I'm not accusing you of anything but I hear stuff in the halls and I know your past reputation but, I have also heard that you changed. And, as the year goes on you seem like a better kid. You aren't who were you last year- don't ever forget that." "Mr.Lutin did you have a girlfriend in high school?" I asked. He laughed, "I had a few." "Any special ones?" I asked. He laughed again," My freshman year of high school there was this girl from a town over, Amanda, so, she was kind of new but, it wasn't a problem because she was beautiful. When I say beautiful I mean it like, she was the type of girl you didn't dare call hot she was always just so gorgeous. She was sweet, kind, genuine she was like perfect and she didn't even try like her flaws made her more beautiful. Well, anyways I sat next to her in English and Spanish class and they too were teachers who never changed seats so, over the year I got to know Amanda better and we became friends. But, the thing was we were just friends. Every guy in the school wanted this girl and she was just one of my best friends- I didn't hang out with her friends but, she was just so sweet so we always talked. I started to really like her to the point where she was on my mind all day every day. We were friends all through high school and for a while after and I had girlfriends nothing to serious because, I was crazy in love with Amanda." "So, what happened?" I asked. "Well, my junior year of college she came to my dorm room and told me she was leaving to study abroad - in England. And before I could tell her she had to come back because I was in love with her she met some guy over there, Daniel, he's nice and British. They fell in love and are now engaged." he said. "I thought you had a girl?" I asked confused. "I do and I love her a lot but, there will always be that girl that got away. " he said. "Oh, true. That sucks." I said. The bell rang, "Bye, Mr. Lutin. Thanks!" I said. "Bye, Jacob. Anytime." he smiled. I walked out of his classroom.

Taylor's Point Of View

"Hey, Taylor. We're going to be doing some seat changes just because there are some issues so I'm going t switch you and Heather. You'll now be next to Seth." Mr.Lutin said when I walked up to the door. "So, I'm not next to Jacob anymore?" I asked, shocked. "No, is that okay?" he asked. "Yeah, it's fine." I smiled. I walked into class, still confused. I was wearing sweet pants and a sweatshirt with my hair up in a messy bun not caring what anyone else thinks. I walked to the desk next to Seth and sat down. "You sit here?" he asked shocked. "Yeah? Mr. Lutin somehow knew me and Jacob were avoiding each other?" I said. I looked at Jacob he wasn't smiling like he normally did when I walked into class. He wasn't even talking to Heather. He sat in the back with his head resting on his arm on the desk not saying a word. "When'd he get glasses?" Seth asked. "He's always had them. He just wears contacts because he thinks he looks better without glasses." I said. "Oh. Weird." Seth said. I nodded. I looked at Jacob and he glanced at me. I got butterflies and I felt tears rushing to my face and I quickly turned away and looked to the front of the class. "You okay?" Seth asked. "Yeah, fine." I fake smiled.
