Chapter 3

1... 2...3... Go.
Faster. Faster.... Breath out your nose. Shake loose. Go. Go. Faster. Go. NOW.
My mind went blank as I began to sprint the list quarter of a mile. I crossed the familiar crack in the sidewalk that, to me, marked a mile and a half from my appartment building. I reached up and touched my face. Tears were streaming down my cheeks. Why? I loved him. He screwed up. He always screwed up, but I miss him. Why did he have to be so stupid. Why did I have to be so stupid? I know that when he gets mad he doen't think straight. Gosh, and now he's dead.
The tears came faster.
He's dead. He's dead. He's dead.

Chapter 2

"Meranda," I heard my aunt say. "Meranda, wake up. I need to ask you something."
I opened my eyes. The sun was shining through my curtains and bouncing off the light pink colored walls. My aunt was standing over me holding a newspaper. 
"I have breakfast ready, come meet me at the table." she said as she walked out. 
I sat up in my bed. The compfortor was bunched up around me. My room wasn't big but I did what I could with it to make it seem more roomy.

I walked to my mirror and broshed through my long blonde hair and wiped the eyeliner smudges from under my emerald green eyes. My pail skin made my eyes pop, which i liked. I slipped a jacket on over my grey tank top and pulled sweat pants on over my short-shorts. Gosh it's freezing in here. I walked into the hallway and into our kitchen. My aunt was already sitting at the table stairing at the newspaper eating a bowl of oatmeal. A box of Fruit Loops awaited me at the table. I bagan to pour the cereal into a bowl followed by milk. 
"How did you sleep?" 
"Fine," I responded.
"Do you know a 'Noah Daile'?"
I nearly choaked on my cereal.
"Uh, ye-yea. Why?" I said as I poured a glass of orange juice.
"Well it says here that he died last night," she said pointing to the newspaper.
"What?"
"Says that he got hit by a car a couple of blocks from here while riding his bike."
I began to laugh.
"Hahaha, Ahaahahahaha! You're joking right?!"
"I'm afraid not," she said looking at me, "are you okay? Why are you crying? Did you know him well?"
I got up from the table, unaware of the tears streaming down my face. I locked myself in my room. I quickly put on my running sports bra and my running shorts. I had to get out of here. I grabbed my shoes and tighed them. I quickly pulled my hair into a pony tail and grabbed a hoodie. I slipped it on over my bra and opened my door. 
"I'm going for a run," I said closing the apartment door behind me.
What do yall think? I know, drama so early! It'll all make sence :) So since no one guessed what was gonna happen, I'm not gonna fave anyones quotes. Buuuut, I'll do that again later on :)

Moving On
Chapter 1
I threw the  door the the apartment building open.
"Why hello Miss Stephans," I heard the door man, Henery, say.
I ran to the elevator and pressed the "up" botton rapidly.
"Meranda!"
"Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t." I mumbled under my breath.
I took off to the stairwell and opened the door. I wasnt more than halfway up the first flight of stairs when I heard the door open behind me.
"Meranda wait!"
I ran faster. But of course I couldn't go fast enough. I felt someone grab my elbow and felt chills run all through my body. I nearly fell down the stairs, but I felt his arms catch me. For a split second I stayed in his arms, breathless. I quickly snapped out of it and struggled out of his grip. I took a step up the stairs when I felt him grab my arm again.
"Noah!" I yelled.
"I need to talk to you," I heard his smooth, calm voice say.
I closed my eyes before the tears could come out.
"What more could you have to say?" I asked.
"I'm sorry."
I whipped my head around. 
"When aren't you sorry?! You're sorry, then you hurt me, you're sorry, then you hurt me; over and over again. Just stop I can't take it anymore."
He took a step up. Even when we were on the same step he was a good six inches taller than me. He closed his eyes and ran his hand through his dark brown hair. He opened his eyes revealing his deep, dark, chocolatey brown eyes. 
"I'm sorry." 
He took a step closer.
"You already said that," I said taking a step backwards.
"I know," he took a step closer.
I tried taking a step back, but I couldn't. D*mn stair-rail.
"Look, I can't handle this anymor-"
Before I knew what was happenening I felt his lips on mine. I can't back up anymore. I can't push him off. So now what? Kiss him back? I can't. I'm supposed to be mad at him. D*mn he's a good kisser. 
I kiss him back. I feel his hands on my waist pulling me closer. He kisses me harder. 
After what seems like ages, he pulls  away.
"D*mn" 
"I've been wanting to do that for a long time." he said.
My heart is racing. I can barely breathe. My stomach won't stay still.
I can't just stand there. Wait, he just kissed me after what he did to me just hours before? In aanger I push him away and run up the rest of the stairs and quickly unlock my apartment door. 
My aunt is no where to be seen. Good. I race to my room. 
So yea. As you can see, I am a typical sixteen year old girl. I live in New York with my aunt. My boyfriend, Noah, cheated on me with my bestfriend. So as of now I have nobody.
Typical? Psh, nah. I'm the type of girl Sarah Dessen writes about.

Noah's P.O.V.

I walked out of Meranda's appartment building and picked up my bike. I hopped on and sped off.
Why did I do that? Why did I let Jesse kiss me? No. Why did I kiss her back?
I peddled faster crossing the street, attempting not to get ran over by one of the many cars.
Why did I do that? Why? Why?
I peddled faster.
Why? Why? Why? Why?
I swerved to miss a car.
Why?

Chapter 25
Hailey's P.O.V
"I love you."
The three word I've been longing to say. But what does it matter? He doesn't love me. I shouldn't have said it. I felt the tears coming and he hasn't even said he doesn't love me or laughed in my face yet. I couldn't look at him. 
"I-"
He stopped. He began to speak, but he stopped. I can't take it anymore. I slid off the jungle gym. I took a few steps and felt the tears comming. I turned on my heals.
What am I doing? 
I can't face him.
Once I was facing him, he had slid off the jungle gym and was now standing on the ground. I stopped.
"I'm sorry," was all that could escape from me.
What now? For ages, it seemed, we stood there. No words, no movement; just our eyes locked together.
"I love you too,"
What?
"What?"
Oh yea, real smart responce, Hailey.
"I love you." 
The tears wouldn't quit rolling down now. 
Before I could think or speak, I felt his arms around me and his hands on my back. I felt his soft lips against mine. 
And in this moment, we became one. I lifted my arms around his neck and he pulled me even closer. 
We finally came apart and he brought his head to mine and we stayed like that, my head resting against his; me in his arms; together.

Chapter 24
Jakob's P.O.V
"It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday,"
Hailey and I were rocking out to Rebecca Black in my car on the way to school. It was Friday, our last day as Sophomores. Also, it was our last day for the bet. That's what I've been calling it; "the bet".
"YESTERDAY WAS THURSDAY, THURSDAY," Hailey was sitting in the seat next to me singing her heart out, laughing the whole time. God she's beautiful. She was wearing a sun dress and sandals. Her hair was flowing behind her in the wind. She's to good for me. I mean, look at me! I'm wearing jeans, a black v-neck, and converse. She's beautiful; I'm me. 
We pulled into the school and got out. We didn't need to go to our lockers, it was the last day. So we walked together to first hour. All the students in the hall were rowdy and it was pretty obvious that there wasn't much time left until summer vacation.

The hours of school dragged on and after what seemed like forever, the final bell rang. Students rushed into the halls. There was students signing yearbooks, girls crying and hugging their friends, and kids running to the student parking lot. I maneuvered my my way through the halls and walked out to my car. Hailey was waiting for me at my car. She smiled at me and waved. I went to get in the drivers seat when she ran over to the door and got between me and my car. 
I laughed, "What?" I asked.
"Can I drive?" she asked.
"Uh-"
"PLEASEEE?!"
I sighed, "Fine, but be careful!" She squealed and took the car keys from my hands.
We got in the car and she began to drive.

"Where are we going?!" I asked her for the millionth time.
"You'll see," she said smiling, "we're almost there."
A few minutes later  she pulled into a park.
"What are we doing here?" I asked. I was confused and couldn't tell what was going on in that cute little head of hers.
"You'll see," she smiled. She stopped the car and got out; I followed her. We walk over to the jungle gym and climb to the very top and sit there. She pulls her knees to her chest and wraps her arms around them.
"So I need to talk to you," she whispered.

Chapter 23
Hailey's P.O.V
I can't do this anymore.
Those five words were the thoughts that were going through my head. Those five words gave it all away. It's been four weeks since we last talked about the bet, Jakob and I. 
I have fallen in love with him. But he doesn't love me. I don't care. I have to tell him. Yes. That's what I'll do. 
I rolled over and looked at my clock. 3:59
"Ugh," i moaned. It's almost 4 a.m. and I haven't gotten any sleep. He won't be awake. I rolled out of bed and put a jacket over my white tank top. I crawled out my window and down the house. I shoved my hands in my pockets and began to walk. I didn't know where I was going to go on this Saturday morning. But i didn't care. I closed my eyes and began to walk.
There I stood out side of his window. I crawled up the tree and onto the roof. I sat there and waited. I didn't know whaat to do. I don't want to go and talk to him. But the other half of me does. 
I decided to just sit back and watch the sunrise.

"What are you doing here?"
My eyes jolted open. I looked around and saw Jakob sitting beside me on the roof. 
"I- uh, well, I dont know," I stuttered. 
He chuckled and sat back. 
"Okay, well that explains alot." He closed his eyes and I did the same.
"So are you ready for next week?" He asked me.
What was next week?
"You know, our finals are over," he paused, I didn't respond.
"So that means all week all we do is get ready for summer and do nothing." he continued.
"Oh yea," I said. I opened my eyes when I didn't hear him say anything. I opened my eyes and saw him staring at me, but he quickly looked away when I caught him. I smiled and he began to blush. I can't tell him; not yet anyways. 
"Do you want to watch a movie?" I asked.
"Sure," he said. He grabbed my hand and took me into his house through his window.
Sorry I haven't wrote yet. It's been crazy!!!!! Ughhhh....

Chapter 22
Jakob's P.O.V
"You know that bet we made about three weeks ago? That you couldn't make me fall for you?" I asked.
She looked down at her coffee and stirred it around a little bit.
"Yes?"
"Well, I was just wondering if that bet was still on," I said. I didn't know what to say, I just need to talk about it with her.
"Yea, it's still on." she said slowly as if every word she was speaking hurt to say.
"Okay, good." I laughed nervously.
"Only five more weeks." she said looking up.
I nodded my head.
"Only five more weeks," I repeated.
Our food came just then. I took a bite of my pancakes and she opened the lid to her yogurt. We ate in silence the rest of the meal.

Finally we pulled up to the school at 7:50 and we walked to class. We took our seats right as the bell rang.
The teacher walked to the front of the room and began to teach. But I wasn't paying any attention. Could Hailey like me? I doubt it. But I sure do hope so. I love her. She was doodling in her notebook. She was holding her beautiful long hair out of her face with her hand.
I will make her fall for me. I love her, and I don't care how long it takes for her to love me. We have to be together. We were made for each other.

Chapter 21
Hailey's P.O.V
"Happy Birthday!"
Yes. It is my birthday. And yes. I was waking up to Jakob jumping into my bed again.
I opened my eyes. Jakob was sitting on me holding a purple box with a big bow stuck on it. The light was dripping into my room through the curtains.
"Ugh, what time is it?" I asked struggling to reach my clock. He was putting to much weight on me for me to move.
"6:30" he replied.
"Gosh! School doesn't start till 8:00!" I said.
"And would you get off of me?!" I said slapping his leg.
He smirked, "Only if you say the magic words."
"And what the hell would that be?" I asked. He was getting annoying.
"Repeat after me," I rolled me eyes.
"I, Hailey Nicole Joins,"
I sighed, "I, Hailey Nicole Joins," I repeated.
"Thinks Jakob Matthew Shay is the bestest friend ever," he continued.
"Thinks Jakob Matthew Shay is the bestest friend ever," I said.
"Now get off!" I laughed.
"Oh no, I'm not done yet," he smiled.
"And I love you to death and couldn't live a day with out you and if anything ever happened to you I'd die and we're going to grow old together and forever be friends."
I felt butterflies rush into my tummy when I heard him say "I love you" even if he didn't mean it the way I heard it. And I could've sworn I heard sadness in his voice when he said "we'll forever be friends".
I wanted to say "I love you too," but I can only imagine the look of horror and disgust I'd get from him.
I finally laughed and sat up a little to forcefully. "Get off," I laughed.
He stumbled off of me laughing. I sat on my bed crossing my legs.
"For you." he smiled handing me the box. "Happy birthday."
I smiled and took the box. I slid open the lid and pulled out the jacket with the sketched fish on it.
"Where'd you get this?!" I looked for the last two weeks for this thing!" I said. I couldn't believe he found it!
He grinned, "That day two weeks ago when we went to the mall to look for it. There was one left. I got it for your birthday."
"Aw! Thank you!" I said, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Anytime," he laughed. I got up and took a quick shower. I slipped on some skinny jeans and a white tank top. I pulled the jacket on over my head and put a white headband in my naturally curly hair. I walked back into my room and saw Jakob and changed into some of his clothes that he keeps at my house. I put on my eye liner and mascara and looked at the clock. 7:15
"We still have forty-five minutes," Jakob said. "Do you wanna go out to eat?" he asked.
I smiled "Sure," we went down stairs and I said bye to my mother. We hopped into Jakobs car and drove to a diner. He opened the door for me and we went in and sat at our usual booth in the corner. After we both ordered Jakob spoke.
"We need to talk," he said.

Chapter 20
Jakob's P.O.V
"Are you okay?" Hailey asked me.
I was thinking about how I am in love with her. Why did I agree to this stupid bet? I know she's only acting like she likes me because of the bet.
"Uh, yea," I lied.
"Okkkkaaay," she said. I could tell she didn't believe me.
I finished my smoothie and waited for her to grab her purse. We got up and went to one of her favorite stores.
"I've been looking for this cropped hoodie," she said searching through some racks of clothes. I helped her look.
"What does it look like?" I asked.
"It's blue and has a little fish on it and.." I listened to her describe the hoodie as I searched through a different rack. As I got near the end of the row of clothing I spotted the jacket she was searching for. I quickly hid it in a row of jeans.
"Have you found it?" she asked coming over to where I was.
"Nah," I said.
"Oh," she looked so dissapointed. "Okay, oh well, I guess I'll have to go to a different mall." she shrugged walking out of the store. I grabbed the hoodie and quickly walked to the check out counter.
"Can you hold this for me?" I asked.
"Sure. Name?" she asked taking the the jacket and putting it on a rack behind counter.
"Jakob" I said.
She quickly scribbled the name down.
"Jake! You coming?" Hailey said walking back into the store.
"Uh- yea coming!" I said running out.
"What was that about?" she asked me.
We were walking to the game store.
"Oh, I was just seeing if the had anymore being shipped in." she looked at me anxiously. "They don't." I finished.
"Oh," she said dissapointedly.
"Yea,"

"Thanks for the ride!" Hailey said as I dropped her off at her house.
"Anytime!" I smiled.
She waved as I pulled away and to my house down the street.
I pulled up and grabbed my GameStop bag.
"How was your day? I see you and Hailey went to the mall," she said motioning towards the bag.
"Yea," I nodded. "I had a long day. I'm gonna go put this up." I said walking towards the stairs.
"Okay hon, dinner in ten!" she called after me.
"Okay!" I called back.
I closed the door behind me as I walked into my room. I took out the games I got and fumbled around in the bottom of the bag until my hand touched something soft. I grabbed it and pulled it out and looked at it.
The hoodie Hailey wanted was in my hands. I smiled and hid it in my closet.
"Dinner!" my mother called. "Coming!" I said as I left my room and ran downstairs.
