It's tough
Chapter 1O

It was lunch time.
I pushed through the crowds of people, waiting to get their lunch.
I placed my tray down next to Jamie's and plopped down.
"I miss him already," I sighed, staring at my food. I wasn't hungry. I just wanted to see Daven.
"You'll see him afterschool." Jamie took a bite of her sandwhich. "Unless those people are crowded around him anymore."
"They'll be more!" I sighed, covering my face with my hands. "Only after he's like 2 months will I have some time alone with him."
The thought of not being able to hang out with my premature little brother bothered me. I missed those bright emerald green eyes.
Jamie was chewing furiously on her sandwhich.
She pointed to mine. "Are you gonna eat that?"
I looked down, grabbed it and placed it on her plate.
"Jamie, I think I'm going to fake being sick. I really want to see Daven." I told her, sighing, thinking of a plan to get out of school early.
"But your parents would be mad at you,"
I stood up.
"It's not my fault I'd be sick, right?" I grinned an evil grin and walked to the trash to dump my tray.
Jamie followed, sandwhich in hand.
"You're gonna get in trouble," she began, still chewing.
I shook my head and headed for the office.
"I won't." I opened the door, then whispered. "How good does this sound?"
I began fake coughing, amazed at how sick I actually sounded.
She gave me a thumbs up with her free hand.
I smiled and walked into the office, leaving Jamie behind.

Chapter 9

I got on the bus and spotted Jamie sitting in the far back  of the bus. She saw me and waved.
I walked towards the back and took my seat next to her.
"Okay, so Jordan called again last night," she told me as soon as I sat down.
What if he was obsessed with her instead of me?
No, I thought. Don't think that.
"Cool." I said, trying not to show any emotion. "He has my eyes."
"No he does not! You have green eyes and he has blue eyes!"
"I'm talking about Daven," I smiled wide, still proud that my baby brother has my eyes.
"Oh," Jamie smiled too. "Exactly like yours?"
"No, his are brighter."
The bus stopped again and in walked the perfect Jordan, holding a basketball and searching for a seat with his friends.
The girls around us gazed at him.
Jamie got up and throw a paper at him.
"Jordan, come sit with us!" she shouted.
He looked at her, then me, then back to her and shook his head and found a seat next to Oscar.
Jamie sat back down.
The other girls were laughing at her.
"You got rejected," they laughed.
I was embarrased for her.
Did he want to stay away because of me?
No, we do a fist bump everyday.
Of course, when his friends aren't around.
I was always thinking negative thoughts.
I'm so insecure.

Chapter 7

"Congratulations!" a friendly couple who live across the street from us called out, then walked right out the door.
My parents, Kayla and Jeremy, and Tia Josie came out of the room and saw me.
"Want to see your new baby brother now? He has your eyes, mija."
He opened his eyes. He has my eyes.
I smiled too myself, got up and walked past them to my room. There, lying in a new crib was my new baby brother, Daven. He looked so heavenly, curled up in a tiny ball.
His big, bright emerald green eyes looked up at me. He blinked, his dark black eyelashes hugging each other.
He held up a tiny fist, waving it in the air.
I smiled down at him.
"Hi Daven," I whispered, holding my pinky towards his fist.
Slowly, he wrapped his tiny little fist around my pinky. The feeling felt amazing.
I stared into his bright eyes.
Even in the darkness of the room, they shone.
They weren't nearly as bright as mine were. His were brighter. A lot brighter.
He had the prettiest eyes.
"Sweetie," my mom whispered at the door.
I turned, not realizing I had forgotten the world around me.
"Sweetie, let him rest."
Her voice sounded so calm, so relaxing.
It wasn't this calm since right before the day Erica was born.
She reached out for my hand.
I held mine out and she took it gently.
"You can see him later," she walked me out into the living room where everyone else was huddled around the couch, drinking hot chocolate.
"I'll get you some," my mom said."You take a seat."
I nodded, walking to the couch and sitting down, watching Phineas and Ferb with everyone else, waiting for my hot chocolate.
It was quiet, except for the TV.
Everyone was so interested in it.
It was the perfect moment.

Chapter 7

I walked Jamie to the gate.
"I'll check out your little brother later. My mom's rushing me to come home. Anyways, congratulations again!"
She took off, running, screaming, "I'm coming mom!"
She lives right down the street anyways.
I went back inside.
Many people from the crowd had left, promising to return with gifts. I hadn't really been paying attention to Daven. It was exciting that I had a new baby brother, but I've gone through this process so many times.
In this past year, I've gotten 6 new cousins, 3 new friends' siblings, 2 new nephews, 3 new nieces..
I've been through this so many times.
I sat down on the couch, hearing the coo's coming from the room in which Daven and the people were in.
Kayla and Jeremy were in that group too.
There was nothing to do but sit here and wait until all the people were gone.
I turned on the TV, waiting.

~*~*~*~*~*

More people have left during the past hour. I was falling asleep on the couch. My phone vibrated in my pocket, startling me and waking me up.
I checked it. Jamie was calling.
Sighing, I picked up the phone.
"What," I answered, grumpyish.
"Someones moody," Jamie then let out a laugh that rang through my ears. "Guess what?"
"What," I said again, shaking my head.
"Jordan called," she told me. "He wanted to say congratulations."
I didn't say anything for a while.
Jordan has been my crush since the fourth grade.
He's so dreamy.
Dark blue eyes that gleam in the light, black wind-swept hair, an inch taller then I am, and the perfect athlete.
"Earth to Marnie," I could tell Jamie was probably shaking her head.
"How does he know?" That was all i got out.
"Dude, Marnie, everyone on this street knows," she stated.
I heard some noise in the background. A crying noise.
"I got to go," she groaned. "Coming, mom!"
I heard the click noise and knew she hung up.
Maybe I could go see Jordan, I thought.
Maybe I could invite him over to see Daven.
Maybe he would be interested.
Maybe.

Chapter 6

Everyone was crowded around Daven's new set-up crib, gazing at him and making funny faces at him, even though his eyes haven't opened yet. The doorbell rang. "I'll get it," I said out loud and ran towards the door.
Jamie followed.
When I opened it, Tia Josie came in and smothered my face with kisses. "Oh, Mija! Look at how big you are now!" she admired me for a couple minutes, then saw Jamie.
"Jamie," she walked over to her and gave her a tight hug. "Jamie, I remember you coming to my house when Marnie's mom was babysitting you. When was the last time I saw you? Oh, when you were just about 4! You're so cute now, sweetie!" she gave her another hug.
"Where's Jeremy and Kayla?" I asked, eagerly. I hadn't seen them in months! I wanted to see them so bad.
"Oh, they're coming," Tia Josie smiled at me. "We're going to be helping out with your little brother and the kids, so we figured we'd stay over. They're bringing the bags in," she told me. "Now where's little Erica and Jason?" she walked away, shouting out their names.
I turned to Jamie and smiled. "They're staying!" I shrieked with joy, hugging her as tight as I could.
"I heard!" she shrieked too, then hugged me back.
"Jeremy's cute," she said as we pulled away.
I looked at her with a weird expression on my face.
"Woah there," I laughed.
Just then, Kayla walked in holding 3 bags.
I looked at her and became speechless.
She set the bags down and smiled at me.
Her once long dirty blonde hair was now a dark brown and short. Her gleaming hazel eyes were now, still hazel, but more blackness in them. She was wearing a tight black low-cut tanktop with a short black mini skirt. She had some tight high see-through black socks on with her, as always, black converse.
She also had some wristbands around her wrists, all saying band names.
I could see Jamie in the corner of my eye, shocked too.
"Well, fine," Kayla began. "Don't give me a hug, even though you haven't seen me in motnhs." she began walking away.
I couldn't find the words to speak. What the hell was she wearing? She used to wear these bright colored shirts and jeans and her hair was so beautiful and now..
I ran up to her and wrapped my arms around her tight. I didn't say anything and neither did she. We stood hugging each other awkwardly.
"I missed you," I finally got the words spit out.
I could feel Kayla tighten her grip on me, then let loose. "I missed you too, Marnie."
And we smiled at each other.
Jeremy walked in with a loud, "Guess who's here?"
He was still the same old Jeremy that Jamie thought was cute.
I saw Jamie's face light up.
I ran to Jeremy and threw myself in his arms.
"Jeremy!" I gripped onto him, hugging him.
Jeremy hugged back. "Marnie," he kissed my cheek. "My favorite little sister."

Chapter 5

I stepped out of the car.
Our neighbors were standing near by watching. Things spread fast around here. As soon as my mom stepped out with Daven in her arms, our neighbors cheered.
Jamie, my best friend, ran to my house and threw her arms around me tight. "Oh my god, Marie! Congratulations!" I smiled and hugged her tight, thanking her.
We all walked into the house together. By then, our neighbors were crowded up on our front lawn, waiting to see baby Daven.
"Can I see her?" Jamie whispered. We were both staring out the window at our neighbors.
"It's a him," I told her. "and yes. But when my mom brings him out."
Jamie let out a low-volumed squeal. "Aw! What's his name?"
I turned away from the window and smiled. "His name is Daven." I said, proudly.
Jamie kept on squealing. She was a baby freak. "I wish I had a little brother or sister. I hate being an only child," she told me, sighing.
"Well, atleast you have no one to bother you."
"Yeah, but... I also have no one to talk to when I have problems,"
"Neither do I," I told her. "I don't even know if Jeremy or Kayla know about Daven yet."
My dad walked into the living room where we were at. "They don't," he took the phone and handed it to me. "Call your Tia Josie and tell them the big news. Kayla and Jeremy are staying over there." he instructed.
He then went outside to tell the neighbors they could come in and peek, but they have to be quiet.
They all passed by us, as quietly as they could.
I dialed my Tia Josie's number.
"Tia?"
"Oh mija!" she exclaimed, almost yelling through the phone. "Marnie, I'm so glad to hear from you! How's your mother?"
I explained everything to her. How Daven was born early and how he was a premature; stuff like that. I told her to tell Jeremy and Kayla and they could come over if they'd like.
Tia Josie agreed to come over and ended the call with a shriek.
I looked at Jamie and smiled.
"I can't believe my baby brother's finally here," I sighed happily.
Jamie hugged me again. "I'm so happy for you,"

Chapter 4

We walked out of the room, pushing my mom's wheelchair. She was cuddling Daven in her arms, holding him in the blanket in which he was wrapped up in. We were that family. One of the many I saw with their brand new member. Many people gazed in awe as we strolled by. I was proud to claim Daven as my younger brother.
I held Jason and Erica's hand, one in each, while my dad pushed my mom's wheelchair.
We strolled out of the hospital and stopped and at the car.
"I'll go take the wheelchair back," my dad said as my mom stood up.
She rushed to the back seats and set Daven in this minature booster seat, good for newborns.
"I don't want him out of my sight," my mom slowly climbed into the seat next to him.
"Oh, sweetie. Could you please put Erica and Jason in  their seats? Oh and take the passenger seat today." I did as I was told and hopped into the passenger seat, strapping myself up.
My dad came back and started the car.
"Home?" I heard Erica say.
"Home." my mother said, pride in her voice. "Where we will introduce baby Daven to."
We drove all the way home.

Chapter 3

I followed my dad into the room.
There was my mother, lying on the hospital bed, holding a tiny human being in a dark blue blanket.
I couldn't help but smile.
My mother motioned for me to come closer, so I did.
She positioned the little baby in a way that I could see him better. He was gorgeous, even though his eyes had not yet been open. He had dark peach fuzz at the top of his head and, like the other babies I saw, was a light red. He was tinier than most.
I smiled at my mom and kissed her cheek, whispering, "Congratulations,"
Erica and Jason were next to view their brand new little brother. They stared in silence, but their faces were full of excitement.
The nurse walked into the room.
"Ma'am, we need to give your baby his check-ups." she reached out for my little brother. "We'll bring him back to you as soon as we're finished. In the mean time, another nurse will come and ask questions for his birth certificate,"
My mother nodded and handed my little brother to the nurse.
She left the room which then became silent.
Erica broke into squeals of joy. "He's so cute! He's so chubby!" she exclaimed.
But he wasn't chubby at all.
He was smaller and less skinnier than most new born babies.
Erica and Jason bothered my mom with questions of my little brother, but she answered none. She was too happy and speechless.
A different nurse came into the room.
"Well, we got the weight of this child. He is lower than most," the nurse brought a chair closer to the hospital bed and sat next to my mom. "That's not normal. We do understand that he was born earlier though. He's a premature." she explained.
Her eyes flickered up to my father, who was listening closely.
"A well trained doctor is checking him for any harm that can affect him in the future."
I was now listening very closely, waiting for more details.
She finished with a sigh, then asked my mom what his name was.
She hesitated, her smile now gone from her face. "His name is.." she stopped, then turned to look at my father.
"Can we decide on this for a couple minutes?" he asked the nurse.
"Sure, sure. I know it must be tough naming a baby." she got up and left the room.
So they discussed the matter.
I was too shocked to listen. My baby brother was a premature. Lots of things happen to prematures that affect their future. I was scared for him. Erica and Jason had found a new interest and were playing catch with a bouncy ball they found under a desk.
The nurse came back in the room after a couple of minutes.
My mother's smile was back on her face.
"We're going to name him Daven."

Chapter 2

The rain hit against the window. I watched the raindrops race each other to see who got to the bottom of the window first. I was listening to Erica and Jason fighting over who uses which hospital toy first. My mother and father were in the emergency birthing room. I sighed. This was going to take a while.
I watched women being strolled out of the rooms, holding their new bundle of joys. Each one of them squirming and a light reddish color.
That would be my family soon.
I wondered where my older brother Jeremy and my older sister Kayla were staying at. Had they heard the news? Did they know they would have a new sibling soon?
Jeremy and Kayla had ran away a couple of months ago, when they found out my mom was pregnant again. She had been pregnant multiple times. Jeremy was born first, then Kayla. We also had another brother who was older than me by a year, who had died in a severe school bus accident. Only he died. His name was Darell.
After Darell, it was me, then Jason, then Erica. Now we were having a brand new baby sister which my mom had been planning to name Jocelyn. My mother and father had argued on what to name her tons of times. My dad wanted to name her Isaura. It's a rare name, and I've only met one in my entire life time. Well, I'd find out what they would come up with later.
"It's my turn to play with the dinosaurs now!" I heard Jason cry out, then push Erica to the floor.
"Jason!" I quickly got up and helped Erica stand.
People's eyes were on us now.
I scolded Jason and Erica about fighting over the toys, then made them both share.
They ended up listening to me.
I would be a good parent,
I thought secretly to myself.
About a couple thirty minutes or so later, my father stepped into the waiting room.
"Hey guys," he had this huge grin on his face and he seemed a lot calmer. He scooped Erica and Jason up into his arms, then smiled wide at me.
"Well?" I asked, eager to know what has happened.
"Come on," he nodded in the direction of the room he came out of. "I want you to meet your new baby brother."

Brother!?
