So, for Christmas, my
sister got me a book, that I haven't read yet, called Dear
Me.Just by looking at the cover, I know it's going to be a
great book. It has many of celebrities and authors writing to their
sixteen year old selves. In the back of the book, there's pages
for me to write. I've been thinking about this for some time
now. What am I supposed to write to my sixteen year old self, when
I'm only sixteen now? Here's what I've come up with.
*MIND YOU, MY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS ON EVERYDAY TOPICS
ARE IN HERE. IF YOU DON'T AGREE, I REALLY DON'T CARE, BUT
DO NOT START A FIGHT WITH ME ABOUT IT. THEY ARE MY
VIEWS.*
Dear Sixteen Year Old Me,
Your name is Alexandria, but you prefer Alex or Ali. You live
with your dad. You see your mom and stepdad on the weekends. You
have a boyfriend named Michael. You have a lot of friends. Enough
with the back story. You let people in too easily, which in most
cases doesn't work in your favor. Your friends
underestimate you. They think you're too tiny, too
little, too weak, too emotional, too nice, but push comes to shove,
you've been stronger than anyone ever thought you could be.
You're not as weak as you seem. You're friends may
be bigger in size and stature, but you? You have strength where it
counts. It's in your heart. In your soul. Never
let anyone tell you
otherwise. They have no clue who they'd be messing
with. You don't lie about anything in your past. Why
should you? You've had a lot of family drama. There's a lot
of things you did that you're not proud of, but you've made
them all fall back together. You were naive. Everyone is at your
age. You care about a lot of people, spreading your heart
out for everyone you know. Sometimes they don't appreciate it.
That's OK. They will some day, when they grow up. Your
best friend is going into the Marines and that scares the
living hell out of you. It'll be okay though.
You're both probably not going to remember each other or notice
to be hurt by it. He loved you, you know. Oh well. You have some
mind of your own. Women in the military?
You agree. Gay marriage? You agree to a
point. LGBT rights? You agree.
Abortion? You think is killing a little
baby, from the moment that embryo is concieved, it's a baby.
Some of your friends don't agree about you wanting to go into
the military. Do you care though? Absolutely not. You don't
know what it's like until you're in or you're
surrounded by it, which you are. Thank your stepdad for that. You
have so many plans for yourself before you tie the knot when
you're older. Travel. Learn as much as you can. Live your
life to the best of your ability. You're a delicate
flower, still learning about life. You have an old
soul. You're very mature for your age, but
you're very insecure. You'll get over that though.
Remember, you're beautiful inside and out. You're
smart. Never let anyone make you feel stupid. You have a
tendency to do that a lot. Remember, mommy puts it as "They
may be book smart, but you, you're a survivor. If you
were trapped on an island, you'd survive. They wouldn't.
Books won't help you then." Love yourself as much as
humanly possible.
*I could write more, but I really can't think of
anything. This is what I got so far.*
