Chapter 7
Keith and Lana both sat there, Lana reading and Keith listening to the music coming from the radio, with his eyes closed, hands behind his head, and humming along to the music. Every once in a while, Lana would take her eyes away from her book to quickly look at Keith. Keith would catch her almost every time, and look back at Lana with one eye open, who would pretend she wasn’t looking at him.
“So…” Keith started, trying to fill the torturing silence, “what college do you plan on going to?”
“Y’know, you don’t have to talk to me. I’m not exactly a person you’d want to talk to, anyway,” she muttered.
“Oh, c’mon, Lana,” Keith said while sitting up. “Stop with the act. It’s not working.”
“What act?”
“This 'ooh, I’m a mean, tough, cool girl that you don’t wanna mess with' act. Everyone’s tried to be friends with you at school, and you pretend you have cold exterior. You read Edgar Allan Poe, you write stories, you stay out here for six hours in the dark and cold with a stick to protect some turtle eggs from being eaten. Now obviously, you’re not who you pretend to be, or you wouldn't be here. It probably works on everyone else, but not on me.” Lana stayed silent as Keith kept his eyes sqaured on her with his oceanic pools.
Lana looked down and let out a soft chuckle while biting her lower lip. “Okay. Okay, I’m sorry. You’re right. Can we, uh…can we start over?” She stretched out her hand for a handshake. “I’m Lana.”
Keith grinned wide, happy that she didn't lash out on him. “I’m Keith. Nice to meet you.”
They let go of each other’s hands, and Lana returned to her book. Keith enjoyed watching her read. She had this bright glow in her eyes when she read and it was somewhat entertaining the way her mouth moved while reading the words.
“Hey, um…do you wanna do something with me tomorrow?” Keith questioned.
Lana averted her eyes away from her book to Keith. “Depends on what it is.”
“You wanna come to the aquarium? I could show you around.”
She put her book down in her lap and leaned forward. “Alright,” she chuckled slightly. “Why not?”
“Okay,” Keith nodded, smiling brightly while lying back down on his blanket.
“This is not a date, by the way, if that’s what you’re thinking,” she said pointing a finger at him.
“No, no, of course not,” Keith said sarcastically, shaking his head.
She put her book back in front of her face again. “Not a date,” she mumbled.
“Yup,” he said with an slight laugh of amusement in his voice. “I hear ya.”

Chapter 6
The light breeze flew through Lana’s hair and the sun added warmth to her skin as she walked down the beach right behind her house. She was writing a story, and the beach gave her inspiration and a peace of mind. Her dad was a writer; writing was in her blood, so it just came naturally. Plus, she had loved writing and her dad had always encouraged her to pursue what she loved to do.
Her train of thought was lost when she heard chattering. Her eyes roamed around when she saw raccoons clawing away at something. She came a little closer, realizing that it was an egg.
“Hey!” she shouted. “No! Shoo! Shoo!” The raccoons scattered. She looked at the egg shell and saw it was a turtle egg. There was a hole nearby, full of them.
“Oh my, God,” she whispered, smiling.

Lana set up a lawn chair right next to the fort she built over the eggs made out of wood, tape, and an old beat up shopping cart. She knew she was going to be tired from keeping guard all night, so she had brought a blanket and one of her Edgar Allen Poe books.
“Uh, hello?” a voice said. Lana opened her eyes and a flashlight was shining, blinding her.
“Can you not shine that thing in my eyes?” Lana said, irritated. When she got her vision back, she looked up and—
She scoffed. “Really? You work at the aquarium?”
“Lana? Sorry, I didn’t know it was you.”
“Yeah, Keith, it’s me,” she said coldly while standing up.
“You’re not a very pleasant person when you wake up, are you?” he laughed, entertained.
She turned around swiftly. She walked up to him, her head even with his chest, but she glared up at him with hard green eyes.
You try being out here for 6 hours, protecting these poor eggs from rabid raccoons, waiting for your…” Lana poked him in the chest.
“Okay, ow.
“…stupid aquarium people to follow through with their promise.”
“Hey look, I’m just here to set up a net so that the eggs don’t get eaten, same as you,” he said, putting his hands up in surrender.
“Okay,” Lana agreed, calming herself down.
“Okay?”
“Okay.”
O-kay,” Keith repeated, setting up a blanket next to Lana along with a radio.
“You’re staying here?”
“Yup.”
“Why?”
“Because I want to make sure they’re okay before I leave.”
“And what’s the radio for?” Keith took out his tools from his duffel bag and began setting up the net.
“Raccoons don’t like loud noises,” he informed her, squatting down. The radio should keep them away.”
“Yeah, we’ll see. These aren’t regular raccoons,” Lana argued while beginning to read her book.
Keith smiled to himself and continued working.

Chapter 5
The day went by surprisingly fast, and Keith couldn’t wait to leave, but he didn’t want to go home for some reason. Throughout the day, Keith noticed that this girl, whatever her name was, was in most of his classes. She didn’t really take a liking towards him, but he was hoping that would change.

“Keith!” Savannah yelled while running towards him. Keith scooped her up into his arms, hugging her tightly.
“Hi, Sunshine,” he smiled. “How was school?”
“Good,” she replied. She held up a circle made out of a strip of paper stapled together on both ends, along with feathers and jewels plastered onto it.
“I made a crown for you,” she said, putting it on his head. “I made one for me too. We’re prince and princess of the world!” she exclaimed. Keith let out a chuckle and his lips parted into a wide grin.
Lana walked down the street, to her brother’s school, listening to music, when she looked up and saw the guy…again. He was wearing a crown that he obviously didn’t make, and talking to a little girl he was holding, which Lana guessed was his little sister. She tried to ignore him, and continued walking. She walked right past him, without him noticing. Maybe her plan was working.
“Is that—Hey!” he yelled, loud enough to make her jump. She stopped, disappointed that she didn’t make it inside the school, and turned on her heel to face him.
Lana heaved a sigh. “Hi,” she forced a smile.
“Hey, um…” Keith scrunched his eyebrows, attempting to remember her name.
“Lana.”
“Lana,” he echoed.
“And you are…”
“Oh, I’m Keith,” he said. “And this is Savannah.”
“Hi!” Savannah beamed.
“Hi,” Lana waved. “Well, I should go get my brother, so…”
“Oh, uh, wait,” Keith stopped her again.
What does he want now? she thought angrily.
“Do you want a ride home?”
“Uh, no, I, uh, I walk. Me and my brother, we walk home.”
“Well, I could drive you, if you want.”
“No, I think we’ll be okay,” she nodded, trying to rush through the conversation.
“You sure? Got my nice, luxury…” He walked over to his pickup truck and slapped the hood twice. “Pickup truck.”
She chuckled. “As tempting as that sounds, I think I’ll be fine walking home.”
“Alright,” he shrugged. “See you around, then.”
She smiled and walked off.

Keith watched her as she walked inside the school.
“Keith, do you like her?” Savannah asked.
Keith was snapped out of his daydream. “No, I barely even know her,” he said, still staring blankly at the spot she had been standing.
“Well, you should.”
Keith let out a snort of laughter and gave a slight smile. “Let’s get you home so I can get to work.”

Chapter 3
Keith pulled into his usual parking spot behind the school. He shut off the engine and sighed, throwing his head back against the head rest. His few seconds of slight relaxation was brutally interrupted by the sound of two loud, obnoxious voices yelling.
“Keeeith!” the voices shouted, those voices being Tyler and Collin.
“Hey guys,” Keith said, attempting not to sound like he didn’t want them around at the moment, which he didn’t.
Keith jumped down from his truck when a car, a silver Porsche, pulled up, almost ramming it’s bumper into his stomach. Drake’s head popped up from the driver’s seat. He turned around and chuckled cruelly, showing those white, shark-like teeth of his.
“Ooh, so close to running you over,” Drake said, walking towards him, about a foot away. He pinched Keith’s cheek. “Aw, did little Keith get scared?” he asked, talking baby-like.
Keith smacked his hand away. “Don’t touch me,” he said angrily, ready to smash his face in. Drake laughed his cold laugh and walked away.
Drake and Keith had never always hated each other. They were good friends, actually. It was up until Keith began dating his sister, which Drake had no problem with. It was that she has died in a car accident after her and Keith had a fight. Drake thinks that if Keith had never argued with her, she would have no reason to go in that car, and she might still be here. Keith felt guilty, thinking that maybe he was right. He tried not to let the thought enter his mind too much.
“C’mon man, let’s go,” Collin said, noticing that Keith’s hand was balled up in a fist, and was trying to calm him down. They began walking into the school, when Tyler started slapping Keith in the shoulder rapidly.
“What, man, what?” Keith questioned, annoyed.
“Caitlin and Rebecca are here,” he said excitedly.
“Oh, dude!” Tyler chimed in. “Keith…” he said, hoping that he would understand.
“Yeah, yeah, go,” Keith said, fanning them away.
“Oh, thanks man,” Tyler patted him on the back before running off.
Keith shook his head and smiled, amused by how they suddenly go stupid for a couple of girls. He continued walking, when he felt a body collide with his. He heard books drop to the ground, saw papers flying, along with a few stares from the students in front of the school. He bent down to pick them up, and another pair of hands joined in.
“I’m so sorry,” a voice said frantically.
Keith handed the person the last set of papers. “It’s fine, don’t—”
He looked up and saw a pair of green eyes staring at him. He stood there, gazing, his eyes locked on hers, and slowly handed the girl the papers.
“Don’t worry about it,” he said softly, still mesmerized.
The girl took the papers from him, and quickly tucked a few strands of her long, dark brown hair behind her ears. She clutched her books to her chest and blurted out, “Thanks.”
Keith gave a crooked half-smile. “No problem.”
The girl flashed a fake smile, looked down and walked away.

Chapter 2
“Let’s get you up here,” Keith grunted while picking Savannah up and putting her in her car seat. “I think you gained a few pounds from all those pancakes,” he teased.
Savannah giggled while shoving another piece of the pancake she was holding in her mouth.
*    *    *    *    *
“Keith?” Savannah said softly from the back seat.
“Yeah, what’s wrong? You okay?”
“I’m fine,” she replied. “I just had a question.”
“Okay, shoot.”
“Is mommy ever coming back to get us?”
Keith sighed and licked his lips. “I don’t know, Sunshine. Maybe. But you know that she loves you, right? She loves you a lot.”
“I know. I just wish she’d be okay, and then we could be a family again. Except without daddy,” she said sadly. “Hmm. I miss him.”
Keith looked in the rearview mirror and saw the curiosity and sadness in her always-sparkling hazel eyes. Keith hated having to keep secrets from her. Always having to sugar-coat everything when explaining a complicated situation to her, but too much has happened in her lifetime, only being 5 years old.
They soon pulled up to Savannah’s school.
“Alright, I’ll see you later, okay?” Keith said while putting on her backpack for her. He knelt down so that he would be her height.
“Okay.”
He kissed her on the forehead. “Be good.”
“I will.”
She ran off towards the school where her teacher greeted her. The teacher waved hello and he waved back. Almost all the teachers in the school that Savannah went to knew him. They always liked him because of the way he is with Savannah and because they knew about his father.
He sighed deeply and hopped back into his pick-up truck, on his way to his “physical, social and emotional hell” as he called it, high school.

It’s weird, in most of my stories, I describe high school as being terrible. And I’m not even in high school yet lol. Well, that’s how my mom, brother and sister said it was. Anyways, thanks for reading guys. I know this isn’t the most interesting chapter, but it gets better next chapter. (:

Chapter 1

"Morning son." Keith's uncle was sitting in his comfy, green leather chair that was so special to him, he wouldn't let anyone else sit in it. No one else really could sit in it, he was in the chair almost every time Keith and Savannah saw him. He had been reading the paper and drinking black coffee, his usual routine in the morning.
"Morning, Uncle Charlie," Keith greeted him. Keith made his way over to the cabinent above the sink and took out a bowl for his cereal.
"I saw you smiling in your sleep when I passed by your door this morning," he said, his face still buried in the paper. Keith paused pouring his cereal for a moment and looked up.
"Probably was just having a good dream," Keith said, continuing to pour his cereal.
"Yeah. I bet," Uncle Charlie chuckled and turned to the next page.
Keith gave him a brief glare, sat down on one of the stool surrounding the kitchen island and began to chomp on his cereal. Keith heard light footsteps, turned around and realized it was Savannah.
"Hi, Uncle Charlie," Savannah said softly, rubbing her eyes.
"Hi, sweetheart," he replied. Keith went over to her and picked her up.
"Morning, Sunshine," Keith said.
"Hi," she yawned, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Someone didn't sleep well, huh?" Savannah shook her head. "Alright, well, how 'bout you get ready for school and I make you some pancakes, sound good?" She nodded and Keith put her down. She ran off to go get ready and Uncle Charlie was laughing to himself.
"Is Snoopy really that funny?" Keith joked.
"No, it's you. You really are your father's son."
Keith smiled and began making the pancakes.

Lana stared down into her bowl, playing with her cereal, extremely frustrated.
"Oh, Lana bear..." her dad said, attempting to make her feel better. "I know you miss home, but c'mon, it's not so bad here. We have a beach right behind our house, the people are unbelievably friendly, and there's a lot more land here than in New York." He poured himself a cup of coffee and plopped down in a chair at the kitchen table, across from Lana.
"I don't want land, Dad," Lana finally spoke, not taking her eyes off of the bowl. "I want buildings, and street noise. I want to be able to go outside and go get a hot dog and come back in 10 minutes. I can't stand it here."
He heaved a sigh and took a sip of his coffee. "Who knows, maybe...maybe something...amazing will come out of all this."

Keith, you're a qt. Howdy earthlings. So, this is my new story. This is a love story, by the way. The next like, 20 chapters are prewritten, so I might put up chapter 2 today, unless I procrastinate, or something happens. I'm not gonna do the character's website's and wardrobe's like I did before, I see no point in it anymore, so I'll just describe everything instead. Give me feedback if I should continue & comment to be notified. Thanks guys.<3
