Hurt
Feelings
Chapter
One
“What
are you saying?” I said with tears in my
eyes.
“It’s not you, it’s me. I’m the fault
here. I just don’t want to hurt anyone’s
feelings.”
Hurt feelings. That was all he ever did to me. He cheated. He
lied. All to protect the other girl from her hurt feelings. What
about me, Caleb? What happened to what we had? All these feelings
wanted to come pouring out, but they couldn’t find their
way.
“Except mine,” I said, almost in a
whisper.
“Never yours, ever, I promise,” he said.
“You promise? That’s what you say? Whay happened to
our promises? What happened to us?” I said with anger
building inside of me as my tears were swallowed by the
distrust.
“No, baby, nothing happened. We’re still here, and we
can still be friends,”
Friends. Promises. Hurt feelings. All these remarks and yells
were building in the back of my throat, but they, too,
couldn’t make it out.
“So be it. Go with Jennifer, but don’t even bother
with me anymore,” I said, tears forming again.
“Ab, don’t do this, it’s not what you
think!” he said.
“It is. It’s exactly what I think. And that’s
Abigail, to you,” I said, thrusting his backpack I was
holding onto his chest. With that, I turned to walk
away.
“Babe, I still love you! Abby, come back!” he yelled
to me.
I didn’t turn back, and I heard his cries to me fade away
as my light blue slug bug sprang to life. I’ll never forget
the memories we had in this two seater. When he spilled his soda
all over his shirt because we were singing and rocking out to our
song. Or when we hid in the trunk from my step-sister and my mom.
I pulled my two-seater out of the restaurant parking lot and
didn’t look back.
