Archie
Smith, Boy Wonder
A tiny
voice asked, “Is he the one?” An orb floated to the
sleeping boy’s head, and another tiny voice answered,
“Yes,
definitely.”
“Why him? What makes different from the
rest?”
“Many things. In fact, everything.”
The voices were omnipotent, not originating from a single point in
the room, but they seemed to somehow reflect the thoughts of the
orbs.
“Ready, then?”
“Absolutely.”
The room was filled - literally filled to the walls, floor, and
ceiling - for a millisecond with a flash of bright, white light.
When the light faded, the orbs and the boy had vanished, leaving
the bedroom eerily silent and still.

Archie’s eyes slowly fluttered open, revealing his blurred
surroundings. His head was throbbing, he was dizzy, and this was
not the bed in which he had fallen asleep.
Author's note:
This is inspired by a page from the book The Mysteries of
Harris Burdick by Chris Van Allsburg, which is an amazing
book of illustrations, each accompanied by one sentence.
I might most more of this... later. Sorry if it's a bit
unclear in the beginning, description slipped my mind as I was
writing from a picture.
