Chapter 34

Hope's POV
It had been three months now since the accident.
I'm just so greatful that Brayden and I were the only two in my dorm that night.
Brayden hadn't been out of hospital that long, but as promised we'd gone on vacation somewhere.
My father payed for us to go to some reclusive island somewhere.
It was so hot, and so amazing.
As I sat in the little hammock on the beach, watching as Brayden walked towards me carrying my diet coke, I couldn't help but think about how lucky I was to have him.
He was my rock, the one who kept me grounded.
He showed me that I didn't have to dress or act like the person everyone wanted me to be, but I could be who I wanted to be and that's all that matered.
I was completely in love with him.
"Here you go baby girl." He beamed at me.
"Thanks." I grinned back.
"Got room for one more?" He smiled, nodding at the double hammock I was swinging in.
"Climb in." I laughed, scooting over to make room.
We'd been here for two weeks, and only had one week left, but we'd both agreed we'd come back here one day.
It was beautiful.
We'd already agreed that we would go skiing together next though, as it was something we both wanted to try.
"So, I've booked us a table somewhere tonight, seen as I haven't been able to take you on a proper date in a while." He smiled down at me.
"Awesome!" I said, really excited.
I loved my dates with Brayden.
"We should probably leave in a minute, so you have anough time to get ready. I know what you're like." He winked.
I slapped his chest playfully.
"Hey, you're probably right." I chuckled, "So come on then, help me pack up our stuff."
Together we packed up our towels, sun cream, books and iPods and headed back to our villa.
I was always surprised at how quickly the days went by on this holiday.
It was already 5pm yet it felt like only lunchtime.
I got in the shower and washed all the salt water out of my hair, before stepping out and braided it, putting it up in a messy up-do.
I then slipped on a high waisted floral skirt and a plain top tucked in.
I applied my trademark makeup and heels, put on some long necllaces, rings and bracelets, and stepped out the room.
I couldn't help but grin at how great my boyfriend looked.
In his tan colour shorts and aztec tshirt he looked amazing.
"You look as beautiful as always." He winked.
"And you're as corny as always." I teased.
Rolling his eyes, he grabbed my hand and we walked down the beach.
"I thought we were going to a restaurant?" I asked, confused.
"It's a special restaurant." He beamed.
When I saw what he was talking about, I gasped.
There was a huge markee set up right on the beach.
There was a violin playing in the background and the whole thing was lit up with candles.
"Brayden, this is perfect." I said.
Wow, that was an understatement!
We sat down and a waitor took our drinks order.
We had the most amazing meal, it was the best date I had ever been on and probably will over go on.
Just as I ordered my choclate cake for dessert, Brayden looked at me very seriously.
"Hope." He began.
"Brayden." I replied, teasing.
I saw his mouth twitch into a smile faintly as he tried not to laugh.
Then he got down on one knee, pulling out the most gorgeous gold diamond ring I'd ever seen.
"Hope, I love you so much." He began, making me grin the most moronic grin possible, "I really can't live without you. The fire just proved that to me. I can't imagine myself with anyone else and I see my whole future with you. I want to make you happy for the rest of our lives, and so I was wondering..."
My breath caught in my throat.
"Will you marry me?"
Oh my God!
The truth is, I saw my whole future with him too. He was all I wanted, and all I ever would want.
"Yes!" I exclaimed, throwing my arms around his neck.
He kissed me so hard it should of knocked both of us off our feet.
"I love you." He said against my lips.
"I love you too." I laughed.
Finally, everything was right in my life.

Chapter 1.

“Come on Bree, let’s go!" Zoe hollered up the steps.
“Coming!” I screamed back down.
I sprinted down the steps, slamming the front door behind me.
“Jake totally has a thing for you again, Bree.” Jaycie winked at me as we crossed the street to jakes house.
“Oh whatever.”  I rolled my eyes sarcastically.
“She’s right Bree,  that was not just a friendly hug.  That was an ‘I want to get in your pants’ kind of hug.” Zoe added.
“Zoe!” I giggled, playfully punching her arm.
“Well, it was!” She said defensively.
“Knock Knock.”  Zoe said, walking into Jake’s house without actually knocking.
“I think I finally understand why parent’s like you so much.” I teased her as we made our way downstairs.
“No one answered the door, so we just came in.” Zoe told Jake, as she made herself comfortable in the corner of the sofa.
“Yeah, or you just didn’t knock.” I mumbled under my breath, shooting her an accusing look.
“Yeah, that too.” She said, shoving a few chips in her mouth.
“So, what do you guys want to do?” Noah asked.  “I mean, it has to be something crazy, this is Bree’s first time home in 2 years.”
“How about we go egg that house down the street.  You know, the red one?” Ryan suggested.
“I said crazy, not illegal.” Noah said, wrapping his arms around Jaycie.
“How about we play spin the bottle?” Zoe offered.
“Fine.” Noah agreed.  “But we have to do something better later.”
“I’ll go get the bottle.” I said, standing up.
“Are you sure you remember where it’s at?  I could help you.” Jake offered.
“I think I’ll be fine.” I smiled slightly, walking up the stairs to the kitchen.
I searched through the kitchen cabinets for an empty wine bottle.
Usually, Jake kept it above the fridge, but he must’ve moved it, because it wasn’t there anymore.
As I turned to look underneath the microwave, I felt myself press against Jakes warm chest.
It was only after that, that I realized we were falling to the floor.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” I blurted.
“Bree, it’s fine.” He smiled, helping us both up from the floor.
I felt his breath brush against my cheek as I stood up.
We were standing a lot closer than I had thought.
His piercing brown eyes stared into mine, and I realized my hands were still gripping his arms from the fall.
As he leaned into kiss me, I pulled away, knowing that I couldn’t give him what he wanted.
Not yet, anyways.
“We should probably get back downstairs.” I muttered, pushing a few strands of hair out of my face.
“Y-yeah.” He stuttered, snapping back into reality and grabbing an empty bottle off of a shelf.
Pulling in Jake was going to be a lot easier than I had planned.
Sure, maybe he was a different person than he was two years ago.
It didn’t matter though, I was going to teach him a lesson.
I was going to teach him that when you play with fire, you get burned.
Not only that, but I was going to teach the player,

 How to play the game.

Protect Me.

Chapter 31

Brayden's POV
Something was pressing on my chest repetidley.
Everything was kind of fuzzy.
I could hear people panicking, but I wasn't sure why.
I reluctantly opened my eyes, and I saw I was in an ambulance truck.
"Mr Hicks? Can you hear me?" A woman in uniform asked me.
"Yeah, yeah what's going on?" I asked, confused.
"There's been a fire, you passed out from the smoke inhilation, but you're going to be fine." She said professionally.
She grabbed hold of my wrist to check my pulse, when suddenly it dawned on me.
"Where's Hope?!" I asked, desperate to know she was safe.
"Sir, stay calm." She ordered.
"Not until you tell me where she is!" I growled.
The woman looked at the surrounding paramedics, and one of them nodded their head at her.
"They couldn't save her." She said quietly.
Couldn't save her?
No... No.
She isn't dead.
She couldn't be dead.
I love her!
"How long have I been passed out?" I asked, so desperate.
"Not long, only a few minutes. But you need to stay calm." The woman barked.
So I'd only been here for a few minutes - Hope could still be alive!
I leapt up, shocking everyone in the ambulance and sprinted towards the dorm buildings.
I could hear people screaming at me not to, and firemen were trying to restrain me.
I forcefully shoved them off, and I took off my hoodie.
I put my hoodie under the huge hose they were squirting at the fire, so that it was soaking wet, then...
I ran inside.
The whole place was coming down.
I ran for the stairs, praying they were safe.
There was no other way, so I kept my back to the wall and made my way up.
Luckily we were on this floor.
Please hang in there baby girl.
I tried not to picture her scared, defeated face as she sat there waiting for death.
She can't leave me, I love her too much.
If we ever got out of here alive, I was marrying her.
Either we both got out of here, of none of us did.
I gasped as I reached the top of the stairs just as the ceiling fell down infront of me.
I jumped over it, so narrowly avoiding being burnt.
I then ran down the corridor, trying to hard to stay clear of the flames.
I found our door and it was already broken down.
I dodged my way through before I came to the bedroom.
There she was.
Oh my God.
"HOPE!" I screamed at her.
She didn't move.
She was crying, her whole body shaking with fear.
But she was alive.
"HOPE! LOOK AT ME!" I yelled at her.
She slowly raised her head.
"Am I dead yet?" She cried.
"No baby girl, but we need to get out!" I shouted.
She looked at me shocked.
"BRAYDEN! GET OUT GET OUT! You can't save me! Please go, go now!" She sobbed.
"I'm not leaving without you!" I swore.
I backed right up against the wall, so I had a good run-up for the massive jump.
Chances are, I either wouldn't make the jump, or land and break the floor.
"Hope! Stay back! I'm gonna jump!" I instructed.
"No no no!" She screamed.
I didn't wait for her reply.
I ran as fast as I could and leapt into the air.
I just kept focused on her angels face so that if I didn't make it, she would be the last thing I saw.
But then, my feet touched the floor.
And it didn't break.
What the hell?
I made it!
I wrapped her in my arms so tight I was probably hurting her.
"Put this on!" I ordered, handing her the soaked hoodie.
She put it on.
It would stop her from burning, or cool any burns she had.
She put it on obediantly.
"Get on my back baby girl, I'm getting us out of here!" I said.
"No Brayden! You'll never make it!" She cried.
She was right.
I didn't have as big of a run up, and I had her weighing me down.
But I wasn't giving up just yet.
"Get on my back!" I shouted.
She did as she was told.
"Don't look baby." I said softly.
She buried her face in my neck.
"Hope, I love you." I said, as I began to cry.
"I love you too Brayden." She said gently in my ear.
I turned my head round and kissed her so tenderly.
It was the most beautiful kiss I'd ever expirienced.
It was the most bitter sweet monent of my life.
"Now I'm gonna jump baby, so you need to hold on tight, okay?" I told her.
In response, she tightened her legs round my waist, and her arms round my neck.
"On the count of three." I whispered in her ear.
She nodded.
"One..." I began.
"Two..." She said shakily.
"Three!" We both shouted as I pushed off and prayed so hard that we made it.

So sorry about all the cliffhangers guys!

One Thing
Chapter 1

"Boys are idiots." Charlotte complained while shoving her face with a freshly baked brownie. "Not all of them are, just most of them." Haley snapped. "I just give up, I'm going to grow old and end up with a million cats when I get older." Kelsie started to whine. We all sat in our colorful sleeping bags in a circle around Haley's room with a giant selection of food in the middle. "Maybe if we didn't eat like teenage boys, we'd actually be able to date a teenage boy." Lucy joked. Nobody laughed, clearly the topic was getting too serious. There was a long silence.

All of these girls have always had horrible luck with guys and love and we were just about to give up. The summer before senior year had just started and we were just at another one of their sleepovers complaining about the same old thing. Then it hit Lucy, "This summer could be different, you know." The rest of the girls all looked at her, waiting for more info. Did she know some kind of dating service that totally worked? Or a town full of perfect guys just waiting for a girlfrend? "How?" Charlotte finally asked, not being able to wait much longer. "Let's this interesting. I think the reason nothing's working is cause we're not trying hard enough. We're not giving ourselves a deadline. I say this summer we all try our best to find boyfriends." Lucy suggested with a smile. "Okay? And that will be different from any other day of our lives?" Kelsie sassed back. "Casue this time we have a prize. And not just a boyfriend. Whoever finds love by the end of the summer gets that One Direction ticket that girl Sarah tried to sell us. Remember, she only had one so none of us took it cause we felt bad for leaving our best friends? Well, now the winner gets the ticket paid by the losers." They all looked at Lucy like she had three heads or something. "Competiton, that just may work." Haley said with a sly smile. The rest of the girls seemed to agree. "This may just work, it's kind of like the Hunger Games... but not at all..." Charlotte added, shoving another brownie in her mouth. "Exactly." Lucy said, quite proud of herself for coming up with the idea. "You in Kelsie?" she asked. It took her a while but Kelsie finally nodded her head, her long blonde curls bobbing around with her. "Well we need some rules." Haley chimed in. It was totally like her to ruin the fun with rules. "Fine; no stealing each other's potential loves, deadline is the day before the first day of scchool, and the guy has to say I love you frist before the deadline and you win." Everyone smiled in agreement. "Those tickets are so mine." Charlotte joked. "Yeah, we'll see." Haley said, probably already making a plan in her head about how she was going to win. Lucy looked around at her competition and announced, "Let the games begin to find that one thing we all want despretely."
