Being the NANNY---Prologue
Claire twirled around the room, staring longingly at the lavender
dress she put on. She danced around the giant walk in closet
gazing at the amount of designer brands she saw. She picked up
purses and tried on shoes, dreaming that it was all hers. But she
knew she was just a poor girl who could barely afford her own
cheap (but still stylish) clothes. Claire was always dreaming
about being as rich as the people whose house she was in. And she
always tried to gather as much money she can--most of it went
into her wardrobe. And the reason she was in a celebrity’s
closet? She was the nanny.

Miss Sweet
Tea?
*Prologue*
I rolled out of bed on a cloudy Sunday morning, hoping my mom
would forget what
today is. I tumbled down the stairs, more asleep then not, and
walk into the kitchen to see my mom sitting at our small
breakfast table with a huge smile spread across her face.
“You know what today is!” My mother exclaimed, in a voice much too loud for this early in the morning.
“I was hoping you forgot.” I moaned.
“How could I, silly! It’s just the most important day in your life! The Sweet Tea Pageant! Oh, darling, I’m so excited!” My mom squealed.
All my life, my mother has been waiting until the day I could compete in this pageant. She was “Miss Sweet Tea” when she was my age, and all she wants is for me to follow in her footsteps. All year we have been practicing, preparing for something I don’t even want to do. But once my mom gets an idea, she is impossible to stop. And since my birth, it was decided I was to win this pageant. So basically, my whole life was based around an event. Not even an event. A pageant. And my fate was going to be sealed in less than twelve hours. Great.
The Summer
Everything Changed
I got off my bike and ran into my best friend's house,
shouting a hello
to their parents sitting on the couch as I sprinted up the
stairs. I knew
this house almost as well as my own. I through open Jenny's
bedroom
door, startling my two best friends (and step sisters) Abby and
Jenny.
"Woah, Shea. That was fast," Abby said with a
laugh.
"Well, you told me to hurry!" I say, laughing aong with
her. Even
though I've only known her for a year, it feels like
she's always been
my best friend.
"Hello, my little pumpkin patch. We're going to the
boardwalk." Jenny
creepily said, causing Abby and I to fall into hysterics. Jenny
is the
funny one, the outgoing one everyone loves. Abby is more quiet,
but
amazing once you get to know her.
As we leave, we stand in front of the mirror to check our looks
one
more time. I stand between them, noticing every flaw I have
compared
to them. They are both gorgous, Abby short and adorable, and
Jenny.
Well let's just say tall, tan, and beautiful. Neithor have
any trouble
getting guys. And then there's me. Me, with my giant nose and
bone-y
body. While believe I'm kind of pretty, something about
myself I just
hate. It's not one specific thing. It's everything put
together.
"Okay, we look hot. Let's go!" Jenny said, snapping
me out of my
trance. She confindently walks downstairs, and I secretly wish I
was
her. Or Abby. They don't care about what anyone thinks, and I
wish I
was like that. But I'm not. All I want is to be comfortable
in my own
skin. As I hop on my bike, following them onto the street, I make
a
promise to myself. As I stare at the sinking sun, I promise
myself that
this summer I will chage. I will go back to school
confident, and I won't
care. I will be myself.
