30 days
~chapter 2~
The
car ride home was mostly silent. Neither of us wanted to say
aloud what we'd just heard, because saying it would only make
it more realistic. We bouth knew that we had to face the
fact, but we were too scared too.
"30 days. 30 days to live"
i kept replaying the doctors words in my head. Over and over like a
broken record. I dont necisarily know why. Maybe i was
just looking for some lie, some false tale in his words, but by his
grim expression, i knew it was 100% true. I thought more
about the list i would come up with. I mean I could look
at this as a curse or a blessing. Most people didn't know
when their death was coming, it just happened. All i know is that i
have 30 days to make the most of, and to live the rest of my
life. As we pulled into the driveway I jumped out of the
car and ran up to my room. I pulled out a sheet of paper
and wrote at the top;
Lukes List of 30
Things To Do in 30 Days;
I already knew what number one was, but other than that i was
stumped. I mean i couldn't write impossible things like
backpack to Europe because I wanted to acctualy acheive
them. After hours of thinking and contemplating i
finaly made my list.... I went to work on my second thing... learn
to surf. I told my mom i was heading down to the beach,
jumped into my car, and drove down. Everyone was starring at
me, i guess they dont usually see a bald 16 year old surfing.
I went to the rental shop and rented a board. As soon
as I walked in all conversaiton stopped, every stared. I
don't usualy go out anymore. i guess you could say im too
scared of what people might think of me. As soon as i got my board
i ran out. As i walked down to the water the sand burned my
feet. I just stood there for a second, it felt good as the
soft sand snuck its way in between my toes. I didnt even care
if people were starring anymore.
I ran down to the water, board in
hand, and tried to catch a wave. I've seen many surfing
movies and tried to mimic what they do, lets just say it didnt turn
out to well. i wiped out hard n my first two and got smashed by my
own board on the third. I went to catch my fourth when i
heard voice form behind me.
"Need some help with that?"
I turned around to see a girl. She
also was sitting on a surf board just floating in the water.
She had blond curly hair, peircing green eyes, and freckles that
dotted her nose.
"Um, yeah sure...
thanks." I said.
For the next two hours, this girl taught
me how to surf, from the basics to cool tricks. When we finished, i
was almost as good of a surfer as her. Learn to surf,
check!
I got out of the water,
with her right by my side.
"So," i said casually, "you
never did tell me your name."
"Brianna," she replied, " but you can call me Bri or
Breezy, thats what all my friends call me."
Bri, i thought, i
liked the way that sounds.
