I’m not afraid.
Chapter 3

Right after I changed into a plain white shirt and gray sweats, I heard someone knock on my window. Frantically, I pulled up the blinds and saw Trent smiling through the glass. I opened up the window, and helped him climb through. He made it through fine, which wasn’t a surprise considering he’s about 100 pounds and a stick. “Oh hey there, Derek.” Trent said, sitting criss cross on my bed. “Hello Trent.” I smiled big, because I couldn’t hold it back. He smiled, too. He had a perfect smile. Probably because he had braces for 4 years, and still wears his retainer every night. I sat down next to him, and looked up at the ceiling. “So, what are we gonna do?” Trent asked, playing with my covers. “Up to you.” I moved my head to look at him. He was thinking. “Come here.” Trent opened his arms like he was going to give me a hug. I slowly crawled over to him, and he pulled me in his lap. I was shocked. He turned me so I was facing him, my face close to his. “I’ve been wanting to do this all day.” I felt his warm hands gently lay on my cheeks. My eyes closed, and our lips met once again. Only this time it was longer, and we were alone. My door was locked and my mom had left for the store shortly after I went to my room. “I missed you so much.” Trent mumbled against my lips. I gently bit his bottom lip, and replied, “I did, too.” It felt like I had no control over what was going on. Slowly, he pulled away. “I.. I want you to be my boyfriend.” He was playing with my shirt. “Boyfriend?” I repeated, my eyes fixed on his. “Yes. What do you say?” He bit his lip. “Yeah..yeah.” I nodded, smiling. “I’ve liked you for a while now..” I said. He narrowed his eyes. “How long, baby?” “Pretty long.” I said, biting my lip as well. “Well…,” He said, pulling me close to him. “You’re mine now, and I’m yours.” I pressed my head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. As I started to close my eyes, I gently felt his lips press down on my head. With that, I heard him mumble the best four words I’ve ever heard him speak. “I love you, Derek.”

Chapter 2 part 3

Jackie’s car pulled up in front of my house. She waved, and I walked over to her car and looked in her window. “Well, you coming?” She peered out the half open window. “Yeah, I guess.” I half smiled, and walked around to the passenger side. I slowly got in the car, adjusting the radio to my station, and smiled. We drove down town, and stopped at a coffee shop. I ordered a coffee, and Jackie ordered a fancy iced coffee drink. “So, tell me about this kiss of yours.” Jackie grinned. I rolled my eyes, and looked at my coffee cup. It felt like everyone was watching me, but they weren’t. We had a table tucked in the corner of the coffee shop, by a window. Nobody was paying attention to us. “He kissed me, I didn’t kiss him. I should’ve clarified that to everyone I told.” I tapped the outside of my cup, waiting for Jackie to speak. She had a confused look on her face. “So, you didn’t kiss him back? You just stood there?” She slanted her eyebrows. “Not exactly, I kissed him back; it’s just that my mom walked in.” I took a sip of coffee, not wanting to say anymore. “Oh, I see.” Jackie giggled, and played with her straw. “Would you kiss him again?” She looked at her coffee, bobbing the straw in and out. “Yeah, I guess. I… kind of like him. I have for a while now.” She looked at me in shock. “And you didn’t tell me or Karlee… Or even trent?” She acted like it was a crime, but in my opinion it wasn’t. “No, it was a secret. For about 2 years now. But… it’s not anymore.” I shrugged and sipped my coffee. “So he knows you like him?” I was getting tired of all the questions. “Uh, yeah. He knows.” That was a lie.
I’m not afraid.
Chapter 1, part 4

“I don’t see a present...” I looked around nervously. “I know,” He was still biting his lip. “I like you.” Those three words went straight through my head. “What?” my eyes grew wide. “I like you, Derek. I understand, you think I’ m a freak now but please…” I cut him off, and stood inches away from him. “I think I’m gay. I think I like you, too.” I could feel my throat closing slowly. Trent bit his lip again, and gently grabbed my hand. I blushed a tiny bit, and looked at our hands. “So, you like me?” He gently swayed our arms. “I guess.” I was in a total loss for words. He slowly moved closer, his face coming towards mine. His lips gently touched my cheek, then he made his way down to my lips. I realized my eyes were closed when I heard the kitchen door open, and they darted open. “Derek?!” my mom was standing right in front of us, with wide eyes and a shocked look on her face. Trent quickly backed away and put his hands in the air like you do when the cops catch you doing something and you’re “innocent.” In this case, my mom was the cop. “Derek…and, uh, Mrs. Miller. I’m gonna go.” Trent darted out of my house, leaving me with my mother who had the same look on her face as she did when she walked in the door.
I’m not afraid.
Chapter 1, part 3

“Let’s play spin the bottle.” Karlee giggled and held up a bottle. “No, let’s not.” Jackie sighed, and took the bottle from Karlee’s hands. “Why not?” Karlee frowned and crossed her arms. “Let’s watch Dora the Explorer.” Trent put two thumbs up and smiled. I laughed. “Let’s.” I answered, agreeing with him. “Ew, no way.” Karlee said, taking the bottle from Jackie and spinning it. “I hope you’re doing that for fun.” I said, as the bottle spun around and around in circles. “Sure.” She replied. “Whatever you want.” She stuck her tongue out at me. Jackie checked her phone and frowned. “It’s 8:30, I gotta get home. My mom will flip.” Jackie hugged us all goodbye, and left. “Then there were three.” I said, leaning against the back of the couch. We’ve been sitting on the floor for probably 2 hours now. “You guys are no fun.” Karlee laughed and poked my arm. “Sorry.” I shrugged and smiled. Karlee stood up. “Weeeelp, I’m gonna go.” She blew us a kiss and left. My friends standing up and leaving on me didn’t bother me anymore. I turned to Trent. “You can leave now.” I laughed. He shook his head. “No, you still need your present.” He bit his lip. “Well, what is it?” I looked at him while he was biting his lip. Did he know I have some feelings for him? “Come with me.” He grabbed my arm and walked into the kitchen.
