Chapter 6
 
(1 hour later)
"So you're saying I'm a werewolf?" I asked Robert.
He just explained to me what had just happened. Gosh and I thought I was crazy.
"I don't get it Robert," I told him.
"Don't worry. Paul, Jared, Embry, Sam, Mycala, and I are also werewolves."
I laid my head on his shoulder. "I don't like this. I hate this," I told him.
"It's okay. We'll go see Sam tomorrow. He'll know what to do."

It was weird being in wolf form. It creeped me out. I could hear the other's thoughts. I didn't like it. I was kind of glad to see Embry since he's my cousin. I stood next to him the whole time.
When Robert and Sam were done talking they turned their attention on to me.
Riley, I am Sam. I am the Alfa. Your brother is second in command. We didn't think you would be joining us until we found out about Mycala. Jared and Paul will bring you back tonight for the meeting. Your brother will already be here. The most important thing is that you don't tell anyone about this.When he finished I was scared. I didn’t want to be here.
When he finished, I was allowed to get out of wolf form. They understood how uncomfortable it felt.
Mycala took me into the shed. She let me have her extra pair of clothes. I told her she was a life savior. When I came out, Mycala and everyone else were still in wolf form.
“I wanna go home now.” I told them.
Sam and Robert exchanged glances. I gave Robert my “what” look.
He came over next to me. He laid down on his stomach and barked once. That’s all I needed to know what to do. I climbed on his back. Before he started to run, I waved bye.

Chapter 5
 
“Riley! Door!” yelled Robert.
“Okay!” I answered.
I rushed down the stairs in my nice clothes. When I opened the door, Nick was standing right in front of me looking the cutest he ever has. ”Robert, I’ll be back at nine!” I yelled as I headed towards Nick’s car. It was a red Porsche. It was beautiful just like its owner.
He took me to this French restaurant that I couldn’t pronounce. It looked and tasted so expensive. I was totally impressed.
“So why did you want to go out with me in the first place?” I asked him.
“Well your pretty, smart, funny, athletic, and sweet. Who wouldn’t?” he answered with a smile.

At the door, we said good bye. Before he turned back to his car he kissed me. It was the most amazing thing that happened to me. When we parted our lips, I whispered, “Thank you,” into his ear.
When I closed the door behind me, I began to feel sick. I ran into the bathroom and puked into the toilet.
Robert came running into the bathroom. ”Oh God. Why now?” I had no idea what he was talking about. My forehead felt like it was on fire. I screamed in pain and tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Riley you are going to be okay. You’re changing. Don’t worry. I’ll explain everything to you tonight when it’s all over,” he assured me. I was still confused.
“You better,” I managed to speak between my meets with the toilet. He picked me up and moved me to my bedroom. That’s when it happened. I fell onto all fours. I heard the sound of my clothes tearing. I opened my eyes and I saw myself in the mirror. I saw a big fur ball. My fur was as white as snow on Christmas Eve. It was so beautiful. What’s happening, I asked myself.
You’ve changed, came a voice from my head.
I turned around and saw another fur ball. This one was as brown as bark. But he was beautiful. ‘Welcome to my world,’ the voice came again. Oh Joy.

Chapter 4

In the cafeteria, I saw Quil and Leah sitting at one of the tables and Jake stood behind me in line. After I got my salad I went over and sat down next to Leah.
“Hey,” I greeted them as I sat down.
“Hey,” they replied.
“Hey, can I have your number?” I asked Leah.
“Yeah. I’ll put it in your phone. Here. Give me,” she said. She put her hand out for my phone. I handed it to her.
When she gave it back she said, “I put in Quil and Jake’s in there too.”
I nodded.
When Jake came he sat next to Quil.
“Hey, Riley,” He assured me.
Quil and Jake starteda conversation. So then Leah and I did.
“Hey. Was Jake with Kellan and Nikki before you and Garret?” I wondered.
“Oh ya. He’s been with them for about ten years.”
I nodded. I turned to look at Jake. He was looking at me. We locked eyes. His eyes were saying something like, “leave me and my family alone. stop asking question..”
The bell rang to dismiss lunch. Quil and I walked to biology together. We ran into Nick in the hallway.
“Uh- Riley. I need to talk to you,” he said looking at Quil instead of me when he said it. He looked scared.
“Okay,” I turned to Quil. “Save me a seat will you,” He nodded as he headed towards the classroom.
“What?” I asked Nick impatiently.
“Do you still want to go out with me tonight?”
“I told you I would. And anyways, I think you are cute,” I said putting on my flirty smile.
“Okay. Cool. I thought you probably wouldn’t want to,” he said quieter.
“So. Will you still pick me up at 8?” I asked.
“Yupp,” he replied.
“Wanna take me to biology or not?” I asked him.
“Of course, I wouldn’t,” he joked. “No duh I would,” he said as he grabbed my hand.

Chapter 3
 
When Kate dropped me off, I said thank you and went to my room. In the safety of my room, I called Bree.
“What do you know about Jake Ruiz?” I asked her.
“Dr. and Mrs. Ruiz adopted him, Kate, Garret, Quil and Leah. Kate and Quil are brother and sister and so is Leah and Garret,” she said. I didn’t know who Garret, Leah and Quil were. “Garret and Kate are a couple. They are in college now. Quil, Leah and Jake are juniors like us.”
“Thanks. Call you later,” I told her, then hung up.

I found that Jake was in my world history, algebra, and English class, Leah was in my trig class, and Quil was in my science, gym, biology, and English classes.
In science, I sat by Quil. He had brown hair that was combed forward hiding his deep brown eyes. He was a dark tan color and tall. Quil and I happened to be partners for the classproject this time. I learned a lot about him. Although when I would bring up things like what he liked to do, what he thought of his family, and stuff like that he would change the topic instantly. I thought it was strange but I liked it. He made me laugh. When I laughed I could feel Nick looking at me. I didn’t know if he knew how uncomfortable that made me.
After class, Quil took me to my English class.
Mr. Madigan gave a speech about a book called “The Lightning Thief”. I already read the book so I paid no attention. Neither was Quil or Jake. But they still kept their eyes on him. Quil was as still as a statue. Every 5 minutes he would move. Jake would be still for 30 seconds. Then he would start to fidget with the pen in his hand.
The bell rang a few minutes after Mr. Madigan’s speech. He assigned us a project on, “The Lightning Thief”.

Chapter 2
 
“Uh-Jake?” I asked, nervously.
“Ya Riley,” he answered.
“Why did you come to the alley?” I asked.
He was silent for a moment. “I heard you yell at him to stop,” he said not turning so I could see his face.
“But I didn’t even yell that loud. And even if you did hear me, how could you see that well in the dark. I couldn’t even tell if the,” I paused as I saw a flash back, ”guy was wearing jeans.”
“Stop,” he ordered sternly. “I don’t want to talk about it,” he turned his head to look out the window.
“No. I want some answers,” I said. I wasn’t going to give up. I needed some answers.
“Stop talking about it. Please. I don’t want to,” he pleaded.
“I want some answers!” I yelled at him.
He turned his head to face me. “Don’t make me mad. You aren’t safe if you do.” When he said that, I knew something was wrong. His eyes were scared and sad. It looked like he was about to cry.
“I’m-“ I froze mid sentence. I couldn’t finish it.
His beautiful brown eyes were sad and scared. They reminded me of little kids when they get caught stealing cookies and are put in time out. He was terrified of something. I just wanted to make him feel safe. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and hold him close. But most of all I wanted to kiss him.

When we finally got to Jake’s house, Dr. Ruiz checked me over. The whole time I watched Jake who never took his eyes away from Dr Ruiz’ hands.
“Riley,” Dr. Ruiz said. I turned my attention onto him. “You look perfectly fine. If you start having ahead acheor you feel dizzy, call me or have your parents call me.”
“Okay,” I replied.
“I will have Kate take you home. She’s my oldest girl,” Dr. Ruiz said. When he said Kate, an amazing girl came down the stairs. She had long curly blond hair. She had beautiful brown eyes like Jake’s and Dr. Ruiz’s.
“Kate. This is Riley. Will you drive her home for me?” Dr. Ruiz asked politely.
“Sure thing Kellan. Just let me get my jacket,” Kate said. She had a beautiful voice. It was sweet like a hummingbird’s. Her walk was graceful. ’If she wanted,’ I thought, ‘she could be a model’ the way she walks just says model.
