Hearing that always makes me sad, because my mom and I don't have that kind of relationship. Our personalities are just too different for us to be really close, you know? We still talk, and we go shopping together pretty often, but we tend to miscommunicate and fight a lot. We don't have the same sense of humor, and I don't like to discuss my feelings with her. Politics do not have to black and white. It is okay to be part of the grey area in between. You do not have to agree with every aspect of a political party, and you are allowed to change your opinion on an issue. It is possible to be a Republican while also supporting gay rights and a woman's right to choose. It is also important to realize that not all Democrats are liberal, nor are all Republicans conservative. Another thing: Disliking Barack Obama does not make some-one a bad person, nor does it mean that they're a rac*st. And finally: Please develop your own political views; do not automatically conform to your parents' beliefs or the opinions you see on tumblr. Do some research, think for yourself, and then decide. It's okay to be different.
