Married in High School? - Chapter
One
I looked outside and scowled, it was
cloudy and looked like it was going to rain. "Today's heat
index will be high, with a muggy sticky feel..." the tv droned
on, and I groaned, facing the mirror again. My hair was poofy,
frizzy, and just plain icky. Definitely not what I wanted it to
look like today. Pulling a comb through it, I comtemplated putting
it up. My phone light up and vibrated on the table in front of me,
and I picked it up smiling.
"Hey Babe," I grabbed a lip gloss and swiped it
on.
"Hey Doll Face, I'll be there soon." Well I
definitely didn't look like a doll today. Tossing the phone on
to my bed, I decided to braid it back into a ponytail. I
stood up and flattened my skirt with my hands, adjusting my top,
and smiled in the mirror. This was my daily ritual. If you smile at
your reflection every day it will brighten your mood over
all.
"Did you hear about the new policy?" Collin asked me a
bit later when he was driving to school, and I shook my head.
"Some new graduation requirement. My mom was talking about it
this morning, she didn't sound too happy."
"If they think I'm going to take something stupid like
another year of gym, they're crazy. That was the worst class
ever," I shook my head as he laughed. I can barely walk
without tripping over stuff, did they really expect me to run
around kicking soccer balls, or hitting baseballs with a
bat?
"Yay! Here we are!" I squealed as he pulled into the
school parking lot. "Babe do you know what this
means?!"
"No...?" He said, giving me a confused look.
"This is the start of the BEST senior year EVER!"
~~~
"Okay everyone, settle down, settle down!" The principal
said loudly into the speaker. The entire senior class had gathered
to hear about the new requirement. Walking through the halls this
morning, I heard some crazy rumors. We would all be transferred to
different school, something about combat training, having to get
A's in all of our classes- "PEOPLE! I NEED YOUR ATTENTION
PLEASE!" The speakers blared, and it was instantly silent.
"Thank you. Goodmorning, and welcome to your senior year of
high school." My fellow class mates and I whooped and hollered
in excitement. "Yes, I know this is an exciting time for you.
So we need to go over some new rules."
She shuffled her papers and I sighed, Ms. McCoy always dragged
things out. "Can she just get on with it?" My friend Lila
leaned over and whispered. I laughed, and Ms. McCoy cleared her
throat again.
"Okay so first, students who drive to school are reminded to
park in STUDENT PARKING ONLY. Next, the school gym will be open
after school from 2:15 to 5 pm everyday..." she droned on and
on about stupid announcements that no one cared about. We were all
fidgeting, waiting for the announcement we came here to
hear.
"And I know you all have heard about the new requirement.
It's called Marriage Ed. You all will be randomly paired up,
and you will be married for the year. You need to fufill all the
requirements to graduate. If you don't, you don't recieve a
diploma. Welcome to senior year." The auditorium erupted into
protests.
YAY! NEW STORY! So I have finals all next week, so I may
not post again until wednesday, but after that I will set up a
better posting schedule. I will possibly put it up on my profile, I
haven't decided yet.
