I woke up the next morning to my father yelling at my mother to make him some breakfast. I let out a sign then rolled out of bed. I flinched at the pain in my ankle when I stood up. It'll go away soon I thought to myself as I grabbed a towel from the closet and went into my bathroom to take a shower. The shower's the only place in the house I can't hear my parents fighting. I washed my hair slowly taking my time and was careful shaving around my cuts. I decided to finally get out before my dad kicks the door in again for taking too long. I walked out of the shower and wrapped the towel around my body letting my hair air-dry. I then changed into my bathing suit and put a thin shirt on over it. I continued to fix my bangs but as I looked in the mirror, I felt like something was missing, but what? My gauges! I walked over to my dresser and put them in. I looked at my reflection one last time then grabbed my tote and beach blanket. I slowly opened my door and listened for my parents, I didn't hear anything so I ran down the hallway to the door. As I walked outside, I smiled at the warmth, it was a lot nicer than my freezing house. I hopped down the steps to the trail that leads over the dunes towards the beach. I was just over the first dune when I heard someone shouting my name.
"Nikki! Nikki! Wait up!" I turned around and saw Sage.

chapter 1
As the waves lapped at my feet all i could think was "this is what i want, I want to live here where theres little need for makeup and shoes, the only place where i feel truly beautiful". i was too lost in my thoughts to relies i had passed our beach house. i turned around just in time to run into someone, i fell back into the water just as a wave crashed. i quickly got up and coughed up some water. "oh gosh im so sorry" said a male voice i didn't recognize, i rubbed the stinging salt water out of my eyes and looked up to see a tall guy with black hair and emerald green eyes staring at me. "its fine no harm done" he let out a nervous laugh "thats good, im Sage by the way" he said "Nikkii" i replied. There was an awkward silence for a second then i spoke "well um i got to go" "oh okay well maybe ill see you tomorrow" he said "yea maybe" i said "bye" "bye Nikkii" i started walking up to the dunes when i heard foot steps behind me, i turned around and saw Sage following me "what are you stalking me now" i said jokingly "well actually im walking to my beach house, that one right there" he said pointing to my beach house. "cool, i guess that makes us neighbors" he said looking at my house "i guess it does" i said "well i really got to go im late for dinner, ill see you tomorrow" i said walking up to the door "see ya" he said walking up to his own.
