"What?" I took a deep breath.
I pushed passed her.
"Ma'am,
you can't go passed the tape." A police officer said. He
had a very low voice. My hand threw up to my throat when I saw
his adams
apple. It moved up and down when he talked.
"That's
my house." I said over my shoulder. I took a running start
and jumped over the tape, feeling like a super hero. Reality hit
me when I fell flat on my face into the hard ground. I rubbed my
nose when I stood up. My head felt 10 pounds heavier than it was.
They found her? I felt sweat soak my shirt.
I ran through
the front door where they were doing investigation. Several
police officers were in the house, taking things with their
gloves and examining them.
"Miss, you
can't be in here right now." I ignored the plump officer
trying to stop me.
"Where is
she?" I asked, out of breath. "I need to see her."
I faked being worried. I really wanted to see her to see what she
looked like.
"You have
to leave." He said in a calm manner.
"Okay,
I'll find her myself." I shrugged and ran right passed
him. I stopped and put my hand over my mouth when I saw her in
the living room. She was under a black sheet on a stretcher. No
one was in the living room. I shut the doors behind me and locked
them.
I took a
step closer, taking a shaky breath. I looked away as I rolled the
sheet down to reveal her face. I turned my head back slowly and
gasped. Her eyes were open and rolled back.
"Oh my
God." I whispered and fell to the ground. I wasn't
expecting that. Why did I look?! I stood up again and covered her
face back up. "I'm sorry." I whispered and cried as
hard as I possibly could. "I'm so so sorry." I
weeped.
"I just wanted to be like you. I wanted everything you had.
I just wanted to be you. And when I did that to you, I was
expecting an easy life. I wanted everything to be like you had
it. People to pay attention to me. People to love me. My own
family to love me. But now, Emma knows, and I want to take it all
back. I'm sorry. I love you, Ashley. I love you." I was
surprised at the words I was blurting out. I put my hand on her
white hand hanging over the stretcher. It was freezing. I
snatched it back and walked away.
I gasped at the
sight I saw when I opened the doors.
Officer Wilson
was standing at the door with his arms crossed over his chest. I
wiped the tears from my cheeks.
"How much
of that did you hear?" I laughed nervously. A tear escaped
my eye.
"All of
it." He narrowed his eyes. "You're in big trouble,
Cassandra."
