i hate when people say cheerleading isnt a sport. the definition of
a sport is "an
activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an
individual or team competes against another or others". does
cheerleading involve physical exertion? heck yes. are we a team?
heck yes. do we compete? heck to the yes. What gives you the right
to judge cheer when youve never even tried it? what if i came to
your field hockey practice and told you it was easy? im sure you
would love that. if you come to my practice, lift me in the air
with one hand, throw me 10 feet up and watch me land on your boobs,
then get back up. do a backhandpsring and scream at the top
of your lungs for 3 minutes straight, i will give you the right to
say its easy. but until you try it, dont say a word. how can you
judge something when it could be the only reason someone is alive?
everyone says dont make fun of someones favorite band because it
could be the only reason theyre alive, but what about someones
sport? besides being false, its plain out disrespectful to make fun
of cheerleaders. people are too dam stereotypical. think we dress
like sk anks? most of us prefer sweatpants and a hoodie. think we
love caking ourselves in makeup? i wear mascara. thats it. think we
get all the guys? some of my team mates have never had a boyfriend.
think we fry our hair? come to our practice. youll see us all in
messy buns with barely any makeup on. we practice atleats 3 times a
week for hours on end. we dont leave that gym until our routine is
perfected. we will hide our injuries just so we dont dissapoint our
team. and then there's tumbling. its not easy. you dont know
how much courage it takes to perform a new tumbling pass for the
first time. if you make one tiny mistake.. if that toe isnt pointed
or your legs arent together.. you could come crashing down.
cheerleading is by far the most dangerous sport there
is. think before you speak and stop judging my
sport.
