She is a reader, a partier at the same time. she laughs way to loud. Her eyes are her only asset. She's waiting patiently until the train to take her out of her hometown stops before her. She loves being in love, but hates commitment. she is her own enigma, she is her own oxymoron. She tries not to hate, but it's unavoidable. she desires those who are undesireable, she is smart, but fails at life. She is me. I am her. and this is my life.

Where i need to be part 13

Everyone took turns telling their favorite stories about my mom. It seemed like it was a wake or memorial as if she had died. To them i think, in a way she did. The memories they had of her the ones they imagined that she was living now, where she was  happy and young were all lies. So to them a part of her did die. As everyone talked i ate so much food. Fried Chicken, Jumbalya, Cajun chicken everything. and to top it all off a big slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream. YUM.
It was nearing 11 so everyone hugged and kissed and stood to leave. They said they'd be visiting tomorrow and they'd be back next Sunday. Suddenly it was just me, Brandon. Eugena, And Timothy.
"come on," said Eugena grabbing my hand "I'll give you the Grand Tour." Timothy nodded at me and Brandon and walked outside. I was getting the impression that he either didn't speak much, or he didn't like us. On the bottom floor there was the parlor, kitchen, dining room, living room, and TV room. Upstairs on the 2nd floor there was the master bedroom and two other bedrooms, up the next flight of stairs on the 3rd floor  there was 4 more bedrooms and then there was the attic. Eugena put me and Brandon across the hall from each other on the 3 rd floor. Brandon somehow got my duffel bag in my room. "Good night sugar. Happy birthday. Sweet dreams. I'm so glad you found us...This was your mother's bedroom you know." she said opening the door for me and kissing my on the cheek. "Thank you. goodnight, sweet dreams Grandma." i said without hesitation. She beamed at that word. "good night Brandon. thank you for bringing her here safely." she said and kissed his cheek. She left and Brandon and I hugged "Night travel buddie and birthday girl!! don't let the bed elves bite your toes off!" he said kissing me on the top of my head "Night Brandon. I Lo-" i said laughing trying to hide the almost i love you. he smiled at me we went into our respective bedrooms. Wow. My mom's bedroom was sea side themed with a light blue paint on the walls and white aged furniture. The bed was four poster with blue covers for the sides. The bedspread was a quilt with greens and blues all thrown into one blanket. And there must have been a dozen blue green pillows of every shape and size. There were two windows on either side of the bed with white muslin curtains. Across from the bed there was a writing desk. on the left of the bed there was a huge closet and a dresser filled with old makeup and perfume and little love notes. Everything was just how she had left it. I kicked off my shoes and i got my favorite light blue pajamas on and climbed into the bed. for once, everything seemed just right.

Where i need to be part 11 (original size?????PLEASE??????)

There were so many family members in one room! they ranged in age from a newborn baby to a man who i could have sworn was 100. He shakily lifted his arm, pointed at me and said,
"Catherine? Catherine is that really you?" his eyes started to well with tears. My grandma- er- Eugena rushed over to calm him. (it was hard for me to call a person who hadn't really talked to me grandma)
"No Richard no this is her daughter, Scarlett." she said turning to me and beaming. Brandon hadn't said anything in a while but he was still right behind me, just in case things went bad.
"Hi everyone...." i said waving to -my family.
Suddenly people started to stand and walk over to me and introduce themselves. The first woman was the one with a new born baby. As she got closer she was really young. Maybe 20. And her other hand that wasn't cradling a baby was holding a 3 year old's hand. What i assumed her husband was behind her.
"Hi Scarlett. I know this must be werid but we'll try and introduce ourselves and hopefully you'll remember. I'm carolann.  I'm your mother's sister's daughter. This is mary," she said shaking her hand to motion that it was the two year old. She had a light and beautiful classic southern drawl. "And this is Idamae. And this is my husband Jim." She said taking my hand and squeezing it showing me that it would at be okay. "Hello Scarlett. Welcome to the family!" Jim said with a booming laugh. I had to laugh because for once i felt relief. There was another family behind Jim and they introduced themselves. "Hi Scarlett I'm MaryLou your mama's sister. These are my two girls, Aliie Mae, and Lacy Leigh
. They're twins. And this is my husband Zachariah." Then the two girls spoke.  They were entirely different. Aliie Mae had blond hair, fair skin, she was thin, and medium height and the Merchant green eyes. She was gorgeous."Hi mama only calls me Allie Mae, everybody calls me allie. How do you do?" she said speaking only to Brandon and pushing me aside so he could kiss her hand or some werid ritual. She put her hand in his and Brandon gave me a quizzical look and put her hand to his lips. "Allie please! Were here to welcome Scarlett too!" Lacy Leigh said  and then her voice dropped low and she said something to allie in a whisper and she was  visibly appalled. Lacy Leigh pulled her sister away from Brandon. "Hi. I'm Lacy." she said to the both of us. I was starting to like her better already. Both girls had light southern accents as if they only spent part of the year here. Lacy had dark black hair like me and  the green eyes. She was also thin but short, like me. She gave me a wink and then the next person introduced themselves. "Hi sweetie. I'm Marybelle your mama's sister. I don't have any children. My husband died a few years back, but he would have loved you because you look just like a real Scarlett O'Hara. Especially with those earrings! Where on Earth did you get them?" she said inspecting my ear. I looked up and behind me smiling at Brandon. He smiled back smugly. I was starting to get tired so i leaned up against him."A great friend gave them to me." i said turning one earring in my ear. "Hi! I'm Harry your mama's brother. This is my wife, Cara Lee and these are your children, "he said gesturing to the little kids who were hanging on their parents legs. This is Jimmy Lee, Kelly Rae, David Ryan, and little Bonnie." they each smiled at me when their name was said and the family sat down. "Hello my dear. I'm sorry i mistook you for your mother when you first walked in. I'm your Grandmama's brother, Richard." he said grabbing my hand and kissing it. The woman pushing his wheelchair said, "I'm his wife Elizabeth Howard. Nice to meet y'all." she said ppushing Richard back to his spot. "Hi! i'm Michael!" said this 14 year old kid who was next in line."Michael wait a minute! Hi, I'm Sara Frances your mama's sister. This is my son Michael, James, and where'd Timothy and his friend go mama?" she said looking around me and Brandon to look at Eugena. "Oh let them play! there goin to university soon!" she said in reply. At that moment 2 guys about 18 walked in. "Hi mama! soorry!" said the one boy going toher one side and kissing her on the cheek." This is Timothy, he's 17, James here is 15, and Michael is 14. Oh and this is Luke. Timothy's friend." she said gesturing to a really hot guy. He had short cut  brown hair, slightly spiked in the front, and he was muscled.  HELLO GORGEOUS????? he looked at me and smiled. "So i'm not the only new comer." he said with a small laugh. No one else in the room laughed.
Eugena came forward. "So this is your family sweetheart. Now it's your turn to talk." she said putting her hands on my shoulders. "Oh and i think you already know but in case you don't I'm your grandmama and this is grandpapa, You don't have to call us that if you don't want to." she said pulling Timothy next to her. "Thanks. Um where do you want me to start with my story?"
"Start at the begginin!" said michael and everyone laughed.
"Well," i said sitting down in a chair in the large antiqued dining room. Brandon got a chair next to me. He patted my hand, knowing what a burden this story was. He would've done more, but he didn't have a southern manners handbook.
"Um well you know how my mom ran away at 16, she was running through an airport in new york city (there were a number of gasps in the room)and she and my dad collided into a stack of Gone With the Wind books. They got on the same plane to Oregon and they got married in a chapel the next day. They had me nine months after they were married and got divorced the day i was born. I lived with my mom for a little while but then," i started to get choked up."She went insane. She is a certified schizophrenic and she suffers from anxiety disorder. She turned to drugs and alcohol, so i went to live with my dad. When i was 11, she went to prison for 6 years on the charges of intent to sell and assulting a police officer. I've lived with my dad ever since." i said tears running freely now. "and i've always wanted to know where she came from and last year Brandon "i stopped and gestured to him. He smiled goofy and i continued. "came up with this idea. I work until i got 900 dollars and i would drive down here to meet you all. Plus i had to ask my mom for names before i left. So on my last visit to her, she told me her parents names. i asked if she had any siblings and she switched personalities. Then i needed someone to come with me and that someone became Brandon. My dad knows I'm here he's angry but he can't do anything because i turned 18 today. So thats it." there were happy birthdays but everyone was crying by this point. I could understand why.  finding out the person you thought was alright and happy is a drug addict and mentally ill isn't all that fun.
"Now it's our turn honey. To tell you a little story." said Eugena.
Where i need to be part 10 (had to put this up quickly)(SORRY!!!)

When she walked out. This woman looked just like my mom, except with slightly graying hair. She just stood on the porch looking at me as though she was seeing a ghost. It just occurred to me then that maybe she thought she was. I looked like her. My mom i mean. And my eyes i knew came from the Merchant side. So there was no denying i was family.
She took a step closer and she was out of the shade of the porch and in the afternoon sun. Her hand covered her mouth in realization and she ran up to me and embraced me. I hugged her back not knowing what to do or say. She started crying and called "Brent! Brent! come here!quick!" she said letting go of me and holding me at arm's length inspecting me. Poor Brandon just stood beside me looking at the whole dramatic scene. And trust me, it was dramaatic. My grandfather came out and uttered "Well i'll be damned."
No one said anything for a while. It was werid. They just look at me. Up and down as if checking to make sure i was real. I kinda felt like a slave being auctioned off.
"Hi. I'm Scarlett, I'm your daughter Catherine's daughter. I came from oregon to- to find out about my family. Oh and this is my best friend Brandon."
"Oh my Lord! honey come right inside and you too boy!" my grandma said shuffling us up the steps and inside the house. She directed us through the first floor to the back where the dining room was. Turns out, it was full of Merchants for dinner that night. Talk about luck. Everyone stopped eating, drinking, talking or laughing to stare at me.

Where i need to be part 9
(would have been up sooner but my little brother erased it.  :/ )

I drove the rest of the three hours. You could definitely tell we were in the deep south. The Spanish moss hung low from the large, twisted and gnarled tree limbs. Alligators kept popping their heads up in the swamps on either side of the road as if to say "stop disturbing the peace" (it wasn't my fault Rusty was extremely loud.) The Spanish moss hung so low over the dirt and gravel road at one point is scraped on Rusty's roof. Creepy much?
"Woah dude I'm like flipping out! Look at me! I'm covered in goose bumps!" Brandon yelled and shoved his arm in my face to show me.
"I'm trying to drive Brandon! Do you want to end up alligator food?" i laughed and pushed his arm away.
I leaned over the wheel and looked up through the windshield. Only little pieces of sunlight shone through the trees and the moss. It gave it an eerie, dark feeling as though the people who had rode or driven on this land before us were watching us.
God i couldn't wait to get into town! The swamps receded and soon a sidewalk was visible. The marshes became grass and lawns to secluded, ancient plantations. After about ten minutes we saw a sign that said "Welcome to Fredmont, Home of the World's Finest Peaches And World's Softest Cotton"
We kept driving and we soon came upon little old victorian houses with veranda porhes and people relaxing on them in the summer's heat. The air here was heavy with the humidity so you knew we were nearing the ocean. Plus it was hot.
We drove a little deeper into town and then we came upon a few stores. A piggly wiggly, a pharmacy, a dress shop, a clothing store, a hardware store, and i kid you not, a general store whose sign must have been 100 years old at the least! We decided to try the General Store first to see if anyone knew my grandparents.
"What if they're dead?" i blurted out quickly braking and parallel parking Rusty.
"Then we turn around and head on home. Stop worrying and come on" Brandon assured me and got out of the car.
We walked into an air conditioned shop full of random antiques. If we didn't have somewhere to be, i could have easily spent the afternoon in there. the cashier was a kind looking man about 40, with balding black hair. He had his charming well known Southern smile on as we approached him. "hello there miss, what can i help you with?" the man said standing up ready to assist me
"Hi. Um i know this is  random but do you know Eugena Edna Merchant and Brent Timothy Merchant?" i said looking at my hand which had their names written in sharpie on my palm.
"Y'all aren't from round here are y'all?" he said with a thick Southern drawl
"No were not.  Were from very very far away."
"Well that explains it. Everyone knows the Merchants!"
"Oh. Um could you give us directions to their home please?"
"Sure miss!"
He wrote the directions on piece of receipt paper.
"You know miss, you're eyes are very familiar. do y'all family in these parts?"
I looked at Brandon. He shrugged.  thanks a lot you're lots of help there!
"Um yeah. Were visiting."
"Well enjoy yourselves! Have a nice day miss."
"You too."I said and we left.
"I'll drive! It's your birthday afterall!" said Brandon.
"Alright i'll read you the directions."
We drove  straight through the town. Once the stores and smaller houses were behind us, you could really begin to see just how old this place was. The houses became ancient plantatations, with lots of land in between. there were some horses and farm animals but mostly peach orchards and cotton fields. It was beautiful.
"It's so hard to see my mom living out here." i said to Brandon.
"Yeah well it's not like you've seen her anywhere great either." he replied
Soon we came to the end of the directions as we turned down a dirt and gravel road. Spanish moss trees were planted on both sides of the road but unlike when we drove in, it was light. Beyond the trees was a huge rolling plain, as green as it gets. soon the road gave way to an opening and there was the most beautiful house i had ever seen.
"wowza. Rusty has never looked more out of place." said Brandon his mouth wide open. my thoughts exactly.
The house (or should i say plantation/mansion) was white with a Victorian style detailed light blue wraparound porch. The rest of the house towered above it. The windows had  light blue shutters and window panes. On the porch there were small white tea tables with matching chairs. The front lawn was neatly trimmed.   The driveway made a large circle breaking slightly to lead to the walkway to the porch. In the middle of the circle was yet another Spanish moss. (really what was with the Spanish moss?)More (!) large Spanish moss trees made a crescent shape around the front lawn. and behind the house was more rolling plain and cotton fields with a peach and pear orchard in the left break of the trees. In the right break of the trees there was a grotto devoted to the Virgin Mary. There was a statue of Her with a garden and a kneeler. Brandon parked the car  and we walked up to the porch. I could hear my own heartbeat as we walked the cobblestone walkway. Brandon grabbed my hand for a quick second and gave it a squeeze and let it go again. We could hear noises coming from inside the house when...

Where i need to be part 8 (back to original size i think lol)

I woke in the morning really confused. Wha-What was going on? i went to sit up when everything came back. Oh. I was in the roach motel i thought to myself. But then i realized that i couldn't sit up. Brandon's arm was wrapped around my abdomen. (it was also my birthday i just remembered. Talk about the greatest gift EVER!) I could feel his breath on my neck. we pressed against each other. he murmured in his  sleep, "No, no don't take her! you can't !" as i tried to move away a little. I couldn't tell him. I couldn't' lead him on. I couldn't ruin our friendship by telling him i was in love with him. No.
"come on! wake up sleepy head!" i said shaking him awake.
"Huh?Wah?"
"It's almost five. and there's a bug crawling on my pillow, i vote we leave now." i told him.
He sat right up suddenly and frighteningly awake. "AGREED!"

We left the motel at 5 and were on our way to Georgia. Only about 3 more hours left. I was driving. We finally entered Georgia. We stopped for food and i wanted to try and call my dad again.
We were in a little town call Riverrock and we decided on stopping into a diner for lunch. The diner was deserted and we took a booth near the window. When the waitress ( may i mention she was gorgeous and Brandon couldn't take his eyes off her) came i ordered a BLT with a diet coke and Brandon had a cheeseburger with extra everything and a coke.
I stared out the window distracted when Brandon brought me back to Earth. "Heyylooo! maybe you should call your dad and assure him that were not married now"
"Yeah i'm gunna do that now."
There was a pay phone outside so i dialed the number and my dad picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"hi daddy."
"Happy birthday sunshine!"
"Thanks...are you still mad?"
"Very. But since you're eighteen i can't punish you until you get home. Honey why did you want to do this? You don't know what it's like there, and frankly neither do i. i'm worried" so he thought my mom parents made her go insane.
""Do you think they- they caused her to-?"
"I don't know. which is why i want you to come home!"
"Dad i can't. I'm sorry."
He sighed. He soundeed old, worn out. "Well i guess i can't do anything now...i love you sweetheart. If you need anything. anything at all. Money clothes food? you just call me okay?"
"Okay i will. Thank you dad, for understanding."
"You're welcome. Bye"
"Bye daddy."
I hung up the phone and walked inside. When i approached the table i saw a cake on the table with 18 candles and written on the cake was ROADTRIP!
I beamed as Brandon stood up and yelled "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCARLETT!" and hugged me. The staff and the two people in the resturaunt said awe and clapped their hands.
We sat down and i blew out my candles. I made a wish. That Brandon would fall inlove with me. And that we'd live happily ever after. "What'd you wish for? come on you can tell me!" he said still smiling.
"If i told you it wouldn't come true!" wasn't that the truth.
"Alright alright! Gift time!" he said pulling out a small box  wrapped in newspaper tied with a white ribbon. Fancy for Brandon's standards. But he tried. And that's all that mattered.
"Go on! open that sucker up before i do!"
I did as i was told. Inside i found a pair of the most beautiful earrings i had ever seen.  They had a small sapphire inside a setting of diamonds. My eyes welled with tears. Brandon came over and gave me a hug. He knew that they were tears of happiness and that he loved them. He also knew i hated the line 'oh you hate them don't you?'
"You're not the only who's been saving up Scar." he said kissing me on the check and giving me a bear hug.
I put the earrings on as soon as he let me go. "They look really good on you, it makes you look like a real Scarlett O'Hara."
We ate our meal remising the entire time about our childhood and how we grew up but never apart.

"Shouldn't you call your parents too? Won't they be worried?"i asked him
"Pfft. No! God they're happy i'm being a normal teenager for once and getting in trouble!"
"Lucky you!"
we continued talking and when we were about to leave an older couple approached us. The lady said to me and Brandon, "You two are the cutest couple i have ever seen. It is so nice to see young love nowadays. You know me and my husband started out just like you two? Yessir and we've been together since. Isn't that right honey?" she said patting his chest. It was obvious she had trouble walking so she leaned on him for support. And he helped her every step of the way.
"Sorry ma'am but me and Scarlett here are just the best of friends. Were like this" Brandon said to her crossing his fingers.
"Just you wait son. Someday soon." The man said to him wagging his finger. The couple walked out of the restraunt. The waitress came over and asked if we needed anything else, "No just the check please," i said still a little choked up.
"Oh honey that couple took care of that for you."
"O well, um have a nice day!" i said as  Brandon and i stood up to leave. I tripped and in a second Brandon was at my side to help support me, just as the old man helped his wife. Once i was steady on my feet again, he let me go and we walked to Rusty in a peaceful silence. With me and Brandon, silence was never awkward.
Where i need to be part 4

I set my alarm for 2:45 so I'd be ready when Brandon came. I almost couldnt believe i was doing this. But i needed to know. Maybe her family was what made my mother go insane. All i knew was that i needed to know.

I went outside and waited in th barn for Brandon to show up. I got a text saying "im here" and then he jumped on my back scaring the living crap outta me. "Brandon!"
"yes?"
"nevermind. now how do we get this thing to start quietly???" i asked as he put his duffel in the trunk.
i could tell Brandon was obviously enjoying what was to come next because of the mischievious smile on his face.
"We push it into the street and then start it up. That way if you're dad does wake up he just thinks it's any other car besides Rusty."
"good idea. let's start pushing."
"You sound like a woman in labor. come on"
And we started pushing. Unfortunately our driveway from the barn to the road was really long.  And Rusty was quite heavy.
"God! what the hell? what is in your duffel bag?!?! an anvil??!!"
It took us half an hour to push us to the road.
we finally got Rusty started ten minuted later and we were off. We decided to take turns driving he would take 4 hours i would take four hours and so on.
Brandon tried starting a conversation but i was exhausted.
"Gurl you need some sleep! i could use the bags under your eyes as blankets! go to sleep. i'll drive today and then tonight we'll find a hotel and then you can drive tomorow."
"Thank you Brandon. You have no idea what this means to me. Not the whole letting me sleep part but the whole coming with me to find myself part." i said lifting one hand of the wheel and holding it and leaning my head on his shoulder so i could sleep.
"No problem Scar."
