Firefly
Chapter 5
“You look nice,” he told me as he took my arm and led me into the small seafood place. It was the only one within miles from here, with Springfield being so far inland. The only access to water we had was the Connecticut River, where beaches were set up all along the shore.
“What do you want?” he asked me as we took a seat at a picnic table in front of the entrance.
We both decided on ordering a large oyster plate to split between us, but because I wasn’t a huge seafood fan, I mostly ate coleslaw.
“How old are you?” he asked after swallowing another shellfish.
“18,” I told him, “You?”
“20.”
I grinned. “So you’re in college.”
He nodded. “Yeah. Are you?”
I shook my head. “No. I just finished high school.”
“Are you planning on going to college?”
I nodded. “I mean, I’ve been accepted, but I’m kind of having second thoughts.”
“Why?”
“Well, I’m kind of like the caretaker for my niece, and my grandmother’s getting old, so if I’m gone and something happens…”
“What about her mom?”
I smiled weakly, our eyes meeting. “My family dynamics are really screwed up.”
He didn’t reply, rather sat back in his chair, a grimace plastered on his abnormally pale face.
“Caleb?” I asked, trying to get his attention.
“Yeah,” he huffed, standing, “I have to use the restroom.”
“Uh, are you okay?” I asked as he entered the building.
“I’ll be fine.”
I felt myself tense up as I realized he’d probably gotten food poisoning from the seafood, and I was thankful I hadn’t eaten hardly any.
He returned after a little over five minutes, his face still flushed.
“It’s just from the oysters,” he assured me as we stood to leave.
“Are you okay?”
He nodded. “Fine.”
He had to pull the car over when we were halfway home to get sick on the side of the road. “Sorry,” he apologized after getting back in.
“Don’t worry about it,” I assured.
“This date sucked,” he sighed, clearly frustrated with himself.
I bit my lip, smiling. He was so adorable when he was upset. “Well, I think it kind of means I’m obligated to take you out on a second one.”

I made a new friend today so I'm in a good mood.
Yeah. That's all. Feedback would be nice (:

Firefly
Chapter 3
I sipped my coffee as I looked around the familiar shop. This was where Danny and I went every weekend during our senior year in high school. Now that it was over, we had almost no time for each other.
I noticed a boy from behind the counter who looked to be my age staring in my direction. I couldn’t see him very well, but from what I saw of him, he was very attractive.
“Hey gurl hey!” I heard Danny’s voice call as he flamboyantly pushed his way into the shop.
I smiled at him, not moving from my chair. “Hi, Danny.”
He pulled out the seat across from me. “So, what’s up?”
“Nothing,” I sighed, leaning forward onto the table.
“Enjoying the summer? Oh my god. I cannot believe we aren’t in high school anymore. Woo! College kids!”
I grinned at him. “I know.”
“But gurl,” he told me, taking my hands, “We are def seeing each other over the vacay. I don’t wanna separate and not talk anymore because that would be a bad situation.”
“Love you too,” I laughed, breaking the touch between our fingers.
“Can I get you something?” a voice asked from behind me, and I spun to face the green eyes of the boy who was behind the counter.
“No, thank you,” Danny responded.
“Okay.” He nodded at us. “Let me know.” He grinned at me while he went back to the cash register.
“Guurl,” Dylan murmured, leaning over to me, “He is fine.”
I bit my lip. “I know.”
“And he was checkin’ you out! Go get ‘im, Mama.”
“No!” I laughed. “He’s probably not interested anyways.”
Dylan rolled his eyes. “Okay, well look, I actually was gunna go look at apartments with the BF, so I’ll hit you up lata,” he told me, waving his fingers at me as he stood up and started walking to the door.
“Bye, Danny,” I laughed.
“Bye, gowgeous.”
I sighed and began collecting my things. I looked up to catch the cashier staring at me again. I titled my head at him. “Can I help you?” I asked, grinning.
“Sorry, you’re just really pretty,” he told me casually. I smiled at him. “I’m Caleb,” he introduced.
“Elizabeth,” I told him, “But people call me Lizzie.”
“Was that your boyfriend?” he asked.
I creased my brow. “You really think Danny likes girls?” I asked.
He giggled. “No. I just didn’t want to assume.”
I laughed at him. “No. I’m not his girlfriend.”
“Then whose girlfriend are you?”
I felt a small smile break out on my face. “No one’s.”
“Then can I maybe take you out later tonight? For dinner?”
I grinned. I didn’t have work, or anything else to do.

Shoutout to my best friend Elizabeth, aka, thesweetestmoments. Just cause. I love you. She's an obnoxious liar who has no life and she's also the best writer on Witty so I'm super jealous and I hate her but that's okay I love her anyways. ~

Firefly
Chapter 2
I sluggishly made my way down the hallway and into the kitchen. Grandma sat in her wheelchair knitting over the counter, and she slowly turned her worn, bony face to mine. “Good morning, Lizzie.”
“Morning,” I told her with a smile, pulling out the chair next to my niece.
“Elizabeth, you sleep in so late,” Kayla told me.
“I had a late night,” I explained to the little 9 year old, rubbing her bald head.
Kayla was a very unique little girl. Ever since she was little, she requested she have her head shaved. Not to honor cancer patients or as some sort of tribute, only because she liked the way it looked. I liked it on her, though. It brought out her golden eyes only my mother and sister had. It was kind of like a little piece of them that stayed with me.
“How was work last night?” the 80-year-old woman in the wheelchair asked.
“Brutal,” I moaned.
“How old was he?”
“Like, 50.”
“Oh,” Grandma sighed, putting her needles down on the counter. “I’m sorry.”
I shrugged, standing. “Gotta do what you gotta do to get by.”
She nodded, agreeing with me. Grandma had always been supportive of whatever I wanted, even prostitution. She said it was my body, and I had a right to do whatever the hell I wanted with it. She had been my best friend for my entire life.
“Liz?” she asked.
“Yeah?”
“When are you planning on popping out a great grandbaby? I haven’t got forever.”
I smiled at her. “No boyfriends for me,” I told her. “Work first.” I made my way back down the hall, away from them.
“But I don’t even like the one I got!” she teased, nudging Kayla, who giggled at her.
I sighed. “I’m gunna run to Starbucks with Daniel, okay? I’ll be back later.”
“Danny!” Grandma shouted. “Danny would make a good boyfriend!”
“He would,” I told her, grabbing my keys and kissing her wrinkled forehead, “If he liked girls.”
Grandma looked at me through her glasses. She was a skinny old thing with grey curled hair and gnarled fingers, but she acted as young as she could. “Whatever works,” she said, flashing a grin.
I smiled at them both. “Alright, bye guys,” I told them before hopping out the door.
“Bye, Liz!” Kayla called.
I waved to them from my old car as I backed out of the driveway.

Can I just thank you guys like real quick for thoroughly accepting me back? I'm going to tell you right now, I won't be on forever, no promises on being loyal, I don't know when I'll need another break or when I'll leave for good. I've lost many followers, and gained a few back; I'm almost at 1,000 again. But, just, thanks (:
