Concrete
Angel
“Shine bright like a diamond;
shine bright like a diamond…” I sung to myself,
sitting on the cold park bench. I watched the naked trees crash
into each other by fault of the powerful wind; I watched the
leaves dance across the iced grass. The moon shone reflecting
rays of sparkling light off the frozen stream. I clutched my
hoody and pulled it tighter, my lips were blue, and my skin was
pale apart from the patches of purple around my right eye. I knew
I best get home before he got really angry; but I guess I was
just too frightened. After another 5 minutes of thought I forced
myself off and scuffed my feet across the ground.
I was just a few houses away from my own when I saw him standing
at the window. His face scrunched with anger, his eyes glaring at
nothing but watching everything. I stopped straight away but
before I could step back he caught a glimpse of me. I knew this
was it. I didn’t take my eyes off the ground as I walked
towards the house. The door was open and he was stood there. An
evil smile crept up his cheek and he put his hand out for mine. I
held my wrist tightly as we dragged me inside. He slammed against
the wall causing my grandmas mirror to fall and smash. He
squeezed my cheeks and jerked my face to his. He spat as he
whispered,
“Where the f**k have you been you know good brat” I
don’t answer so he screamed it this time and through me
into the door. I fell onto my back and he planted a foot into my
ribs. I wanted to scream but he would just hurt me more. Instead
a just held my breath, praying for him to stop. He grabbed my
hair and hauled me to my feet then held me firmly. A cold hand
slapped my cheeks. A car pulled up on the drive way and he let go
off me.
“Get up to your room now,” he screamed and I ran
upstairs, locked the door and dropped to the floor. I screamed
inside myself.
