It's All A Scam
Chapter 3

The fallen leaves crunched underneath my feet, and the sweet smell of autmn filled my nose. We were walking briskly through the forest, but to find what? Stephen wouldn't tell me. I unclipped my water and took a quick swig, refreshing my dry throat. We haven't eaten in 2 days, and water was limited.

Stephen dropped his bag, "Let's rest for a minute, then create a shelter. I think a strom is coming through."

I looked up, he was right. The wind picked up and the clouds were a dark gray, which was not a good sign.

We created a small lean-to with a tarp as the ceiling. I sat on the cold ground, chills running through me constantly, even with all of my warm clothing on.

Stephen looked concerned, "You cold? Want my jacket or something?"
My teeth chattered, "No, I'm good. I don't want you to be cold."
He motioned for me to move closer, "Come here. We can like, get close."
I looked at him, surprised, "Like cuddle?"
He looked down, clearly embarassed, "Erm, uh, I guess."
I didn't care if it was werid, I was cold. I moved in close and he put his arm around me and we huddled together like penguins. He was right, I was getting warmed up. I closed my eyes and ended up drifting to sleep. That's when everything came to me.

I was somewhere of high importance, somewhere with chrome everything, leather seats, and glass tables. I looked through a key hole, and heard a strong, manly voice bellowing.

"Somebody found out! Somebody hacked us, and they're out to stop us."
"But, sir-"
"Don't tell me I'm wrong! I know what's happening! They're here, yes, and they will find out about the injection room, and the time bombs! They know too much! They probably know everything!" The man rubbed his forehead, "Just tell me they don't know how to get into the difuser room."
A tall, skinny man with a clipboard stood up, "It's virtually impossible, sir. Nobody can get in without a pass and a signature from you!"
"They better not get it, or, or, I don't even know. We will all be in jail!"
Everyone nodded.

I woke up in a quick shock, my eyes meeting Stephen's.
He looked away quickly. What's wrong with him? I don't even care, I just need to tell him.

"Stephen. There's a diffuser room. We can save everyone."
"That's great! Where is it?"
"I don't know."
"How do you get in?"
"I don't know."
"Well, do you know anything about it?"
"Uh... no."
"Oh, boy. Then we've got some work to do."

It's All A Scam
Chapter 2

Over the winter break I did as much research as I could. Day and night. I slept for about 2 hours in a week. My health was slowly declining, but I had energy drinks, I had coffee, I had food,  I had water, I was fine. I could do it. I had to find out everything. You see, the government tracks everything on the internet, except if you download a fireflywall. That causes the government to lose your IP address and they are unable to track your movement on the web. Stephen would stay up with me until about 3:00 a.m., but then he would get back on at 7:00 a.m. He told me how to access government files with certain passwords and codes, which was a big help. I had to do a lot of hacking, also. It was being like a bomb defuser. One wrong move, they would find out about me.

My room was covered with papers of notes and sheets with coding, passwords, and crucial information. Of course, my mother never checked up on me, she never asked what I was doing, I was alone now. She was gone. She could barely survive without my father. She wouldn't get up, she wouldn't talk, she wouldn't do anything but stare into space. I would be more concerned, but I have important business. My mother and I were never that close to begin with.

I finally got all the research I needed, now I moved into action. Get in close with the government somehow, and get the truth out. But how to do it?

First: I can't exist. I can't have people knowing who I am, I can't have an idenity, I can't be a person in this country, they can catch me that way.
Second: I need training. I need to be physically able for any situations, and mentally. I have to keep a calm, clear head, and I have to be strong and fit, just in case I need to fight back
Third: I can't get close to anyone anymore. My mother is already gone, my father is deceased. The only person that matters now is Stephen, and our information is what keeps us together. No more best friends, no more sleepovers, no more parties. Just me and Stephen, against the world.

Will it work? Maybe. Will I die? Probably. I just need the truth to be out, and Stephen thinks the same.

"I can't stand seeing my dad sit there and be alright with killing innocent people."
"It's what people will do for money."
"Yeah, but.. I don't know. Uh, Katie.. I have a question."
"Yeah?"
"Can I have a hug?"

I looked at him. A hug? Strange. I can't remember the last time I got one of those from someone not in my family. It has been months since my father died, and I haven't got one since the funeral. I didn't care for hugs, or people for that matter.

"Uh, sure."

We awkawrdly hugged and he held on for a while, "I just need reassurance."
I looked down, "Oh, okay."
He put on his backpack and looked deeply into my eyes, "You ready to leave everything you know? For this?"
I stared at him, determined, "I've been ready."
He smiled, his finger on the 'enter' button, "Kiss your identity goodbye."
I gulped loudly.

We looked at the screen as we saw the records for "Katie Peterson" and "Stephen Michaels" disappear.

Kinda a boring and long chapter. Whateverr. Comment for a notificaiton, follow for whatever. Cause I'm fabulous.

Chapter 9:

Lucas’ POV:
Stacey re-enterd the theatre.

She flattened her skirt on her lap, "She's a mess. I'd go see her if I were you. She wants to talk to you."

I ran out of the room and bursted into the hallway.

I walked quickly throughout the building, "Aubrey? Where are you?"

I got to a secluded corner, then stopped in my tracks. Her makeup was running down her cheeks, her hair was in her face, and she sat on the floor with her knees pulled to her chest. She was still absolutly stunning.

"Aburey," I said, rushing over to comfort her. "What's wrong?"

She looked away from me and rushed her words, "You came here with Stacey and you two hit it off and I don't really love Jack and I just sad yes underpressure it was a mistake, I'm honest! I'm so sorry..." She let out a deep sigh, then chuckled, "Oh, God, I'm such a mess."
I brushed the hair out of her face, looking into her eyes, "No, you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen."

Aubrey's POV:
Luke pierced me with his bright green eyes, then leaned in and kissed me. His sweet, soft lips collided with mine, and I was shocked, but relieved. It felt so natural. We broke our kiss and he just looked at me smiling.

Just then Jack ran over, "Are you serious? Not my Aubrey!"
I stood up, "I was never yours, Jack. I'm sorry. Buttttt, there is somebody else with an eye on you," I winked and poined to Stacey and she gave a small wave. He smiled at me and they went off together.

Luke turned t me once again, "Aubrey, will you be my girlfriend? I promise, I will be the best boyfriend ever! Especially when you're concerned."
I bit my lip and smiled, "Yes."

He grinned wide and took my hand, leading me out of the door.

"Where are we going?"
"Ice cream!" he yelled, rubbing his stomach.
I giggled, "Of course. You're favourite thing ever."

He looked in my eyes and kissed me once again, "Aubrey, I love you. No, it's not like that 'love' that people have when they first start dating. I do love you. Truly. I always have, and I always will. I just love you, Aubrey."
I smiled and said, "I love you too, Luke."
He smiled wide, "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to say that."

We walked to get ice cream, and the rest is history.

Chapter 8:

Lucas’ POV:
I heard rustling behind me, and I saw Aubrey walking out of the theartre crying.

Stacey turned to me, "I'm gonna go see wha's up with her."
I nodded and she scooted her way out of the row and up the aisle.

Aubrey's POV:
I slid down the hallway and into the bathroom. I heard the door open, and Stacey was behind me.

"What do you want?" I yelled at her with fire in my eyes.
She looked at me sincerely, "I want to tell you the truth."
"The truth?"
"Yes. The truth. The truth is, Luke loves you. He's loved you forever, adnd he was trying to make you jealous by going to the movie with me. At the same time, I was trying to make Jack jealous by being with Luke. Luke finally wanted to tell you his big secret, but then you fell in love with Jack so suddenly and so quickly, he thought it aws all over."
I cleared my throat, "I don't love Jack...I-I love Luke."
She raised her eyebrows, "You do?"
I nodded silently, biting my lip.

It's All A Scam
Chapter 1

Four heart attacks. What are the odds? I had to do research on this. I know something's up. I slid on my glasses and sat down quickly, placing my DELL laptop on my lap. I pulled up Google and typed in, "Heart attack conspiracy theories" and got over 2 million hits. I clicked on webpage through webpage, most titled, "Heart Attacks To Cheat People Out Of Money?" "Government hoax!" "Is your heart attack really an accident?" and many others. I scrolled through each page carefully, picking out information. "Heart failure 'Time Bombs'..." "Set multiple alarms..." "..people with high paying jobs.." "..Many heart attacks close together.." It was all coming together. It was all making sense. I get it now. I need to do something about it.

Somebody from my school works somewhere in a government office. I know, weird, because they're a senior, but their dad is high ranked. I needed to ask him some questions.

"Stephen! Wait up!" I yelled after school one day.
"Uh, yeah? What's up?" he smiled at me.
We've never talked so I was a bit awkward, "What do you think of uh, conspiracy theories concerning heart attacks?"
"Weird question, uhm, do you work for the news or something?" he grinned.
I lied, "I actually do! It's for a special being aired in about a month."

He told me all about what people thought, and what was "true", and I wrote down every last bit. I could tell he was lying, I could see it in his eyes. I could definitely get him to crack.

I asked tough questions that he didn't answer easily, "So why are there so many cases?"
"Is it really all an 'accident?'"
"Why are you so sweaty, Stephen? Huh? Something wrong? Something you wanna tell me?"
He looked like he was going to cry at that point so I settled down, "Just tell me the truth."

He lowered his voice, "I cannot tell you much, but you are on the right track, okay? Just, don't do anything. They'll get you. They're-they're always watching. Always. I know everything, I want to turn against them myself, but my father, he is so proud of me for being part of this sick, sick hoax, and I cannot break away. I've tried, trust me. Just don't get involved. It's sweet you're doing this for your dad and stuff, but even though I don't know you, I don't want you to be hurt. I know what they do to people who break the rules. It's not pretty."

I turned away and started to walk, but then turned back suddenly, "We can make things better. We can break this. We can do it, you and me. I promise."

I looked painfully into his icy blue eyes and he whispered almost silently, "Okay."

WOAHHHHHHH, it's getting a bit juicy! I didn't think of how this story is going to escalate, but ya know, YOLO. loljk i hate when people say that. Follow! Comment for a notification!

It's All A Scam
Prologue

I stood at my father's funeral with a blank expression, not showing my pain on the inside. People I didn't know kept coming up to me and hugging me, expressing their pity towards me. My eyes just stayed on the casket containing my father's body. My dad has survived 3 heart attacks in the last two months but, of course he had heart attack right before his retirement, and we don't even get his money. My red-eyed mother brushed her hands over my mouse brown hair and I felt one of her many tears drip onto my arm. I handed her a tissue and she blew her nose into it.

"Thank you, Katie, sweetie, for being so strong."
I kept my eyes locked on the casket and simply nodded my head.

Later I heard a government worker talking to my mother, "I'm sorry, Miss Peterson, we cannot give you the money. His retirement was not settled and there are many legal issues with his case. You can look through this document if you would like."
She sobbed into her handkerchief and pushed the packet away.
"I'm sorry for your loss, Miss. We tried our hardest. Good day."

I peered around the corner at my mother, looking 10 years older than she was a few weeks ago. So young, so fun, so full of life.. that's all over for her. The worker gave me a dirty look and walked past me and out the door, hitting my shoulder. I turned around and watched him leave.

There was something fishy about this.

How's the first chapter? it gets better, i promise! So comment for a notification, and please follow! :D

Chapter 7:

Lucas’ POV:
I was feeling considerably better, health wise, not heart wise. I can't believe Aubrey pulled that sh*t on me. I should've seen it coming. I woke up with a facebook message from her.

"Hey Luke! Omg, I'm so sorry I'm dating Jack. Like, idk why you would get mad, but like, I said I don't like him, which I don't, but my mouth just kinda said yes..."

I closed my laptop. This is bullsh*t. But then I got a devious plan in my mind.

I picked up my phone and dialed Aubrey, "Hey!"
"Uh, hi!" She said, "I thought you'd be mad?"
"Nah, Jack is a really good guy!"
"Okay.. you sure?"
"Positive. Hey, you wanna hang out?"
"No, I can't sorry! Me and Jack are going to the Spiderman movie at 6:30."
"Oh okay. Cya 'round then."
"Bye!"

I hung up, puzzled. Crap. I had an amazing plan... wait.

I dialed a new number, "Hey, Stace. You need to do something for me.."

Aubrey's POV:
Stupid Jack! I wanna hang out with Lucas, not him. Uggggh.

I got to the theatre and Jack was waiting outside for me. We went in to pay for tickets when I heard Lucas laughing with someone around the corner.. a girl. I peered around the corner and saw Jack's very sl*tty ex girlfriend, Stacey, laughing and talking with Lucas, and Lucas being a charmer. Jack noticed them talking, too. I could see rage and jealousy in his eyes.

Stacey and Jack broke up one day before we started dating, and he clearly still loves her, but wants me so Luke can't have me. It's quite stupid.

We walked up to them and they stopped laughing.
Stacey looked me up and down, "Oh, hi."
"Hey," I said, then turned to Lucas, "I didn't know you two were together."
Lucas looked at me blankly, "Well we are. Don't be bothered with us, you have Jack, silly!"
Jack didn't say a word. His jealousy was taking over.

The movie started and we sat a few rows behind Luke and Stacey.
He had his arm around her and I could hear her giggling when he would whisper to her.
I got up and walked to the hall outside that theatre, "Excuse me."

Chapter 6:

Lucas’ POV:
I woke up the next morning feeling weak. I could barely move, I could barely talk, and I felt like I was going to puke or pass out, possibly both. I had a fever of 102.3. Just peachy. As a bonus, I had a splitting headache. Oh no, the picnic! I had to call Aubrey! I managed to get my phone and dial her number.

She picked up immediately, “Hi!”
“Hey,” I croaked. “I’ve come down with something.”
She gasped, “Aww, you don’t sound too good! I’m so upset you can’t go!”
“Same. We can hang out when I get better, okay? I promise!”
“Pinkie?”
“Definitely.”
“Okay, thanks for telling me. Please feel better, get some sleep. Talk to you later. Drink plenty of soup! Bye!”

Aubrey’s POV:
I hung up. Oh god, now I’ll be alone with Jack. Crap. I don’t like him! Ugh! The first hour of the picnic was fun, the Jack arrived.

He hugged me, “Hey babe, lookin’ hot!”
I faked a smile and a small chuckle, “Thanks,” I said looking away.

My mom came up to us and I introduced her to Jack. She started talking about the creek, and Jack said he’s never been to it. My mom suggested I take him down to the creek for a quick look around. F*ck.

When we got there he put his hands in his pockets, “I actually love this creek. I come down every weekend.”
“Why’d you say you’ve never been here?”
He looked into my eyes, and put his arm around me, “I wanted to spend time with you. Alone. Aubrey, will you be my girlfriend?”

My head screamed, “NO NO NO NO NONONOOOOO! NOOOOO!”, but for some reason, my mouth replied, “Yes.”

I wanted to tell him the truth. I wanted to tell him I love Luke, not him. I wanted to tell him how much I despise him after he threatened Luke, but I couldn’t. I could only hold his hand and smile as he lead us back to the fun and games.

Lucas’ POV:
I logged onto facebook after sleeping all day and saw Aubrey was in a relationship with Jack. Greeeeat. There were photos of them at the picnic together, too. Wait, I thought she didn’t like him? That’s at least what she told me. What a joke. I couldn’t help but to be mad at her. She broke my heart. She pieced me together all in one day, then hit it with a sledgehammer again. I’m always the bestfriend, nothing more. I shouldn’t be surprised that this happened.
